ਹਉ ਜੀਉ ਕਰੀ ਤਿਸ ਵਿਟਉ ਚਉ ਖੰਨੀਐ ਜੋ ਮੈ ਪਿਰੀ ਦਿਖਾਵਏ ॥ hau jeeo karee tis vittau chau khaneeai jo mai piree dikhaave | I would cut my living body into four pieces for anyone who shows me my Beloved. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਮੇਲਾਵਏ ॥੫॥ naanak har hoe deaal taan gur pooraa melaave |5| O Nanak, when the Lord becomes merciful, then He leads us to meet the Perfect Guru. ||5|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਰੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਨਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੂੜੀ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ antar jor haumai tan maaeaa koorree aavai jaae | The power of egotism prevails within, and the body is controlled by Maya; the false ones come and go in reincarnation. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ਮੰਨਿ ਨ ਸਕੀ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਰਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ satigur kaa furamaaeaa man na sakee dutar tariaa na jaae | If someone does not obey the Command of the True Guru, he cannot cross over the treacherous world-ocean. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੋ ਚਲੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥ nadar kare jis aapanee so chalai satigur bhaae | Whoever is blessed with the Lord’s Glance of Grace, walks in harmony with the Will of the True Guru. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਇਛੈ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇ ॥ satigur kaa darasan safal hai jo ichhai so fal paae | The Blessed Vision of the True Guru’s Darshan is fruitful; through it, one obtains the fruits of his desires. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੰਨਿਆਂ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥ jinee satigur maniaan hau tin ke laagau paae | I touch the feet of those who believe in and obey the True Guru. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਜਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੬॥ naanak taa kaa daas hai ji anadin rahai liv laae |6| Nanak is the slave of those who, night and day, remain lovingly attuned to the Lord. ||6|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਨਾ ਪਿਰੀ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਿਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀਐ ॥ jinaa piree piaar bin darasan kiau tripateeai | Those who are in love with their Beloved - how can they find satisfaction without His Darshan? - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਹਸੀਐ ॥੭॥ naanak mile subhaae guramukh ihu man rahaseeai |7| O Nanak, the Gurmukhs meet Him with ease, and this mind blossoms forth in joy. ||7|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਨਾ ਪਿਰੀ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਕਿਉ ਜੀਵਨਿ ਪਿਰ ਬਾਹਰੇ ॥ jinaa piree piaar kiau jeevan pir baahare | Those who are in love with their Beloved - how can they live without Him? - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਾਂ ਸਹੁ ਦੇਖਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਥੀਵਨਿ ਭੀ ਹਰੇ ॥੮॥ jaan sahu dekhan aapanaa naanak theevan bhee hare |8| When they see their Husband Lord, O Nanak, they are rejuvenated. ||8|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨੇਹੁ ਤੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਚੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥ jinaa guramukh andar nehu tai preetam sachai laaeaa | Those Gurmukhs who are filled with love for You, my True Beloved, - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਰਾਤੀ ਅਤੈ ਡੇਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੯॥ raatee atai ddehu naanak prem samaaeaa |9| O Nanak, remain immersed in the Lord’s Love, night and day. ||9|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੀ ਆਸਕੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਸਚਾ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ guramukh sachee aasakee jit preetam sachaa paaeeai | The love of the Gurmukh is true; through it, the True Beloved is attained. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਹਹਿ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ॥੧੦॥ anadin raheh anand naanak sehaj samaaeeai |10| Night and day, remain in bliss, O Nanak, immersed in intuitive peace and poise. ||10|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਚਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ sachaa prem piaar gur poore te paaeeai | True love and affection are obtained from the Perfect Guru. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਭੰਗੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੧੧॥ kabahoo na hovai bhang naanak har gun gaaeeai |11| They never break, O Nanak, if one sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||11|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਨੑਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਨੇਹੁ ਕਿਉ ਜੀਵਨਿੑ ਪਿਰੀ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ॥ jinaa andar sachaa nehu kiau jeevana piree vihooniaa | How can those who have true love within them live without their Husband Lord? - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ॥੧੨॥ guramukh mele aap naanak chiree vichhuniaa |12| The Lord unites the Gurmukhs with Himself, O Nanak; they were separated from Him for such a long time. ||12|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਤਉ ਆਪੇ ਲਾਇਆ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਰਿ ॥ jin kau prem piaar tau aape laaeaa karam kar | You grant Your Grace to those whom You Yourself bless with love and affection. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਲੇਹੁ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਮੈ ਜਾਚਿਕ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ॥੧੩॥ naanak lehu milaae mai jaachik deejai naam har |13| O Lord, please let Nanak meet with You; please bless this beggar with Your Name. ||13|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਸੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰੋਵੈ ॥ guramukh hasai guramukh rovai | The Gurmukh laughs, and the Gurmukh cries. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰੇ ਸਾਈ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ ji guramukh kare saaee bhagat hovai | Whatever the Gurmukh does, is devotional worship. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ guramukh hovai su kare veechaar | Whoever becomes Gurmukh contemplates the Lord. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਵੈ ਪਾਰੁ ॥੧੪॥ guramukh naanak paavai paar |14| The Gurmukh, O Nanak, crosses over to the other shore. ||14|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ jinaa andar naam nidhaan hai gurabaanee veechaar | Those who have the Naam within, contemplate the Word of the Guru’s Bani. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਸਦ ਉਜਲੇ ਤਿਤੁ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥ tin ke mukh sad ujale tith sachai darabaar | Their faces are always radiant in the Court of the True Lord. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਤਿਨ ਬਹਦਿਆ ਉਠਦਿਆ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਜਿ ਆਪਿ ਬਖਸੇ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥ tin bahadiaa utthadiaa kade na visarai ji aap bakhase karataar | Sitting down and standing up, they never forget the Creator, who forgives them. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਜਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਿ ॥੧੫॥ naanak guramukh mile na vichhurreh ji mele sirajanahaar |15| O Nanak, the Gurmukhs are united with the Lord. Those united by the Creator Lord, shall never be separated again. ||15|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪੀਰਾਂ ਕੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਮਹਾਂ ਕਰੜੀ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ gur peeraan kee chaakaree mahaan kararree sukh saar | To work for the Guru, or a spiritual teacher, is terribly difficult, but it brings the most excellent peace. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਾਏ ਹੇਤ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ nadar kare jis aapanee tis laae het piaar | The Lord casts His Glance of Grace, and inspires love and affection. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵੈ ਲਗਿਆ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥ satigur kee sevai lagiaa bhaujal tarai sansaar | Joined to the service of the True Guru, the mortal being crosses over the terrifying world-ocean. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਸੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ man chindiaa fal paaeisee antar bibek beechaar | The fruits of the mind’s desires are obtained, with clear contemplation and discriminating understanding within. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਭੁ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੧੬॥ naanak satigur miliai prabh paaeeai sabh dookh nivaaranahaar |16| O Nanak, meeting the True Guru, God is found; He is the Eradicator of all sorrow. ||16|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੇਵਾ ਜੋ ਕਰੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥ manamukh sevaa jo kare doojai bhaae chit laae | The self-willed manmukh may perform service, but his consciousness is attached to the love of duality. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਪੁਤੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਇ ॥ put kalat kuttanb hai maaeaa mohu vadhaae | Through Maya, his emotional attachment to children, spouse and relatives increases. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਦਰਗਹਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਕੋਈ ਅੰਤਿ ਨ ਸਕੀ ਛਡਾਇ ॥ darageh lekhaa mangeeai koee ant na sakee chhaddaae | He shall be called to account in the Court of the Lord, and in the end, no one will be able to save him. - Guru Ramdas Ji
