ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਮਦ ਮਤਸਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਾਰੀ ॥ kaam krodh mad matasar trisanaa binas jaeh har naam uchaaree | Lust, anger, egotism, jealousy and desire are eliminated by chanting the Name of the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਸਨਾਨ ਦਾਨ ਤਾਪਨ ਸੁਚਿ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਾਰੀ ॥ eisanaan daan taapan such kiriaa charan kamal hiradai prabh dhaaree | The merits of cleansing baths, charity, penance, purity and good deeds, are obtained by enshrining the Lotus Feet of God within the heart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਜਨ ਮੀਤ ਸਖਾ ਹਰਿ ਬੰਧਪ ਜੀਅ ਧਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥ saajan meet sakhaa har bandhap jeea dhaan prabh praan adhaaree | The Lord is my Friend, my Very Best Friend, Companion and Relative. God is the Sustenance of the soul, the Support of the breath of life. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਮਰਥਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਸਦਾ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥੯॥ ott gahee suaamee samarathah naanak daas sadaa balihaaree |9| I have grasped the Shelter and Support of my All-powerful Lord and Master; slave Nanak is forever a sacrifice to Him. ||9|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਵਧ ਕਟਿਓ ਨ ਜਾਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸੰਗਿ ॥ aavadh kattio na jaat prem ras charan kamal sang | Weapons cannot cut that person who delights in the love of the Lord’s Lotus Feet. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਾਵਨਿ ਬੰਧਿਓ ਨ ਜਾਤ ਬਿਧੇ ਮਨ ਦਰਸ ਮਗਿ ॥ daavan bandhio na jaat bidhe man daras mag | Ropes cannot bind that person whose mind is pierced through by the Vision of the Lord’s Way. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਾਵਕ ਜਰਿਓ ਨ ਜਾਤ ਰਹਿਓ ਜਨ ਧੂਰਿ ਲਗਿ ॥ paavak jario na jaat rahio jan dhoor lag | Fire cannot burn that person who is attached to the dust of the feet of the Lord’s humble servant. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨੀਰੁ ਨ ਸਾਕਸਿ ਬੋਰਿ ਚਲਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਪੰਥਿ ਪਗਿ ॥ neer na saakas bor chaleh har panth pag | Water cannot drown that person whose feet walk on the Lord’s Path. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਰੋਗ ਦੋਖ ਅਘ ਮੋਹ ਛਿਦੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਖਗਿ ॥੧॥੧੦॥ naanak rog dokh agh moh chhide har naam khag |1|10| O Nanak, diseases, faults, sinful mistakes and emotional attachment are pierced by the Arrow of the Name. ||1||10|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਉਦਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤੀ ਬਿਚਰਹਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬਹੁ ਖਟੂਆ ॥ audam kar laage bahu bhaatee bichareh anik saasatr bahu khattooaa | People are engaged in making all sorts of efforts; they contemplate the various aspects of the six Shaastras. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਸਮ ਲਗਾਇ ਤੀਰਥ ਬਹੁ ਭ੍ਰਮਤੇ ਸੂਖਮ ਦੇਹ ਬੰਧਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਜਟੂਆ ॥ bhasam lagaae teerath bahu bhramate sookham deh bandheh bahu jattooaa | Rubbing ashes all over their bodies, they wander around at the various sacred shrines of pilgrimage; they fast until their bodies are emaciated, and braid their hair into tangled messes. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨ ਸਗਲ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਵਤ ਜਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਢਾਇ ਸੂਤ ਕੇ ਹਟੂਆ ॥ bin har bhajan sagal dukh paavat jiau prem badtaae soot ke hattooaa | Without devotional worship of the Lord, they all suffer in pain, caught in the tangled web of their love. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੂਜਾ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਕਰਤ ਸੋਮਪਾਕਾ ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਥਾਟਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਥਟੂਆ ॥੨॥੧੧॥੨੦॥ poojaa chakr karat somapaakaa anik bhaant thaatteh kar thattooaa |2|11|20| They perform worship ceremonies, draw ritual marks on their bodies, cook their own food fanatically, and make pompous shows of themselves in all sorts of ways. ||2||11||20|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਰੁ ਸਦਾ ਬਿਖਿਆਤਾ ॥ sant sahaar sadaa bikhiaataa | He is the Helper and Support of the Saints, manifest forever. - Bhatt Kalh Sahar
ਤਾਸੁ ਚਰਨ ਲੇ ਰਿਦੈ ਬਸਾਵਉ ॥ taas charan le ridai basaavau | Grasp His Feet and enshrine them in your heart. - Bhatt Kalh Sahar

ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਧੀਰ ਮਤਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਰੇ ॥ gaaveh ganbheer dheer mat saagar jogee jangam dhiaan dhare | The beings of deep and profound understanding, oceans of wisdom, sing of Him; the Yogis and wandering hermits meditate on Him. - Bhatt Kalh Sahar
ਗਾਵਹਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਦਿ ਭਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦਿਕ ਆਤਮ ਰਸੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਾਣਿਓ ॥ gaaveh indraad bhagat prahilaadik aatam ras jin jaanio | Indra and devotees like Prahlaad, who know the joy of the soul, sing of Him. - Bhatt Kalh Sahar

ਗਾਵਹਿ ਜਨਕਾਦਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਜੋਗੇਸੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ॥ gaaveh janakaad jugat jogesur har ras pooran sarab kalaa | King Janak and the great Yogic heroes of the Lord’s Way, sing the Praises of the All-powerful Primal Being, filled with the sublime essence of the Lord. - Bhatt Kalh Sahar
ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਨਕਾਦਿ ਸਾਧ ਸਿਧਾਦਿਕ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਅਛਲ ਛਲਾ ॥ gaaveh sanakaad saadh sidhaadik mun jan gaaveh achhal chhalaa | Sanak and Brahma’s sons, the Saadhus and Siddhas, the silent sages and humble servants of the Lord sing the Praises of Guru Nanak, who cannot be deceived by the great deceiver. - Bhatt Kalh Sahar
