ਗੋਰਾਂ ਸੇ ਨਿਮਾਣੀਆ ਬਹਸਨਿ ਰੂਹਾਂ ਮਲਿ ॥ goraan se nimaaneea bahasan roohaan mal | They remain there, in those unhonored graves. - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਆਖੀਂ ਸੇਖਾ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਚਲਣੁ ਅਜੁ ਕਿ ਕਲਿ ॥੯੭॥ aakheen sekhaa bandagee chalan aj ki kal |97| O Shaykh, dedicate yourself to God; you will have to depart, today or tomorrow. ||97|| - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਫਰੀਦਾ ਮਉਤੈ ਦਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਏਵੈ ਦਿਸੈ ਜਿਉ ਦਰੀਆਵੈ ਢਾਹਾ ॥ fareedaa mautai daa banaa evai disai jiau dareeaavai dtaahaa | Fareed, the shore of death looks like the river-bank, being eroded away. - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਅਗੈ ਦੋਜਕੁ ਤਪਿਆ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਹੂਲ ਪਵੈ ਕਾਹਾਹਾ ॥ agai dojak tapiaa suneeai hool pavai kaahaahaa | Beyond is the burning hell, from which cries and shrieks are heard. - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਇਕਨਾ ਨੋ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਆਈ ਇਕਿ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ॥ eikanaa no sabh sojhee aaee ik firade veparavaahaa | Some understand this completely, while others wander around carelessly. - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਅਮਲ ਜਿ ਕੀਤਿਆ ਦੁਨੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੇ ਦਰਗਹ ਓਗਾਹਾ ॥੯੮॥ amal ji keetiaa dunee vich se daragah ogaahaa |98| Those actions which are done in this world, shall be examined in the Court of the Lord. ||98|| - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਫਰੀਦਾ ਦਰੀਆਵੈ ਕੰਨੑੈ ਬਗੁਲਾ ਬੈਠਾ ਕੇਲ ਕਰੇ ॥ fareedaa dareeaavai kanai bagulaa baitthaa kel kare | Fareed, the crane perches on the river bank, playing joyfully. - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਕੇਲ ਕਰੇਦੇ ਹੰਝ ਨੋ ਅਚਿੰਤੇ ਬਾਜ ਪਏ ॥ kel karede hanjh no achinte baaj pe | While it is playing, a hawk suddenly pounces on it. - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਬਾਜ ਪਏ ਤਿਸੁ ਰਬ ਦੇ ਕੇਲਾਂ ਵਿਸਰੀਆਂ ॥ baaj pe tis rab de kelaan visareean | When the Hawk of God attacks, playful sport is forgotten. - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਜੋ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਚੇਤੇ ਸਨਿ ਸੋ ਗਾਲੀ ਰਬ ਕੀਆਂ ॥੯੯॥ jo man chit na chete san so gaalee rab keean |99| God does what is not expected or even considered. ||99|| - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਸਾਢੇ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਮਣ ਦੇਹੁਰੀ ਚਲੈ ਪਾਣੀ ਅੰਨਿ ॥ saadte trai man dehuree chalai paanee an | The body is nourished by water and grain. - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਆਇਓ ਬੰਦਾ ਦੁਨੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਤਿ ਆਸੂਣੀ ਬੰਨਿੑ ॥ aaeo bandaa dunee vich vat aasoonee bana | The mortal comes into the world with high hopes. - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਮਲਕਲ ਮਉਤ ਜਾਂ ਆਵਸੀ ਸਭ ਦਰਵਾਜੇ ਭੰਨਿ ॥ malakal maut jaan aavasee sabh daravaaje bhan | But when the Messenger of Death comes, it breaks down all the doors. - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਤਿਨੑਾ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਭਾਈਆਂ ਅਗੈ ਦਿਤਾ ਬੰਨਿੑ ॥ tinaa piaariaa bhaaeean agai ditaa bana | It binds and gags the mortal, before the eyes of his beloved brothers. - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਵੇਖਹੁ ਬੰਦਾ ਚਲਿਆ ਚਹੁ ਜਣਿਆ ਦੈ ਕੰਨਿੑ ॥ vekhahu bandaa chaliaa chahu janiaa dai kana | Behold, the mortal being is going away, carried on the shoulders of four men. - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਫਰੀਦਾ ਅਮਲ ਜਿ ਕੀਤੇ ਦੁਨੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਆਏ ਕੰਮਿ ॥੧੦੦॥ fareedaa amal ji keete dunee vich daragah aae kam |100| Fareed, only those good deeds done in the world will be of any use in the Court of the Lord. ||100|| - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਫਰੀਦਾ ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਤਿਨੑ ਪੰਖੀਆ ਜੰਗਲਿ ਜਿੰਨੑਾ ਵਾਸੁ ॥ fareedaa hau balihaaree tina pankheea jangal jinaa vaas | Fareed, I am a sacrifice to those birds which live in the jungle. - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਕਕਰੁ ਚੁਗਨਿ ਥਲਿ ਵਸਨਿ ਰਬ ਨ ਛੋਡਨਿ ਪਾਸੁ ॥੧੦੧॥ kakar chugan thal vasan rab na chhoddan paas |101| They peck at the roots and live on the ground, but they do not leave the Lord’s side. ||101|| - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਫਰੀਦਾ ਰੁਤਿ ਫਿਰੀ ਵਣੁ ਕੰਬਿਆ ਪਤ ਝੜੇ ਝੜਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥ fareedaa rut firee van kanbiaa pat jharre jharr paeh | Fareed, the seasons change, the woods shake and the leaves drop from the trees. - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਢੂੰਢੀਆਂ ਰਹਣੁ ਕਿਥਾਊ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧੦੨॥ chaare kunddaa dtoondteean rehan kithaaoo naeh |102| I have searched in the four directions, but I have not found any resting place anywhere. ||102|| - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਫਰੀਦਾ ਪਾੜਿ ਪਟੋਲਾ ਧਜ ਕਰੀ ਕੰਬਲੜੀ ਪਹਿਰੇਉ ॥ fareedaa paarr pattolaa dhaj karee kanbalarree pahireo | Fareed, I have torn my clothes to tatters; now I wear only a rough blanket. - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਜਿਨੑੀ ਵੇਸੀ ਸਹੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੇਈ ਵੇਸ ਕਰੇਉ ॥੧੦੩॥ jinaee vesee sahu milai seee ves kareo |103| I wear only those clothes which will lead me to meet my Lord. ||103|| - Sheikh Farid Ji

ਕਾਇ ਪਟੋਲਾ ਪਾੜਤੀ ਕੰਬਲੜੀ ਪਹਿਰੇਇ ॥ kaae pattolaa paarratee kanbalarree pahiree | Why do you tear apart your fine clothes, and take to wearing a rough blanket? - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਬੈਠਿਆ ਸਹੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਜੇ ਨੀਅਤਿ ਰਾਸਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੧੦੪॥ naanak ghar hee baitthiaa sahu milai je neeat raas karee |104| O Nanak, even sitting in your own home, you can meet the Lord, if your mind is in the right place. ||104|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਫਰੀਦਾ ਗਰਬੁ ਜਿਨੑਾ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਧਨਿ ਜੋਬਨਿ ਆਗਾਹ ॥ fareedaa garab jinaa vaddiaaeea dhan joban aagaah | Fareed, those who are very proud of their greatness, wealth and youth, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਖਾਲੀ ਚਲੇ ਧਣੀ ਸਿਉ ਟਿਬੇ ਜਿਉ ਮੀਹਾਹੁ ॥੧੦੫॥ khaalee chale dhanee siau ttibe jiau meehaahu |105| shall return empty-handed from their Lord, like sandhills after the rain. ||105|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਫਰੀਦਾ ਤਿਨਾ ਮੁਖ ਡਰਾਵਣੇ ਜਿਨਾ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਓਨੁ ਨਾਉ ॥ fareedaa tinaa mukh ddaraavane jinaa visaarion naau | Fareed, the faces of those who forget the Lord’s Name are dreadful. - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਐਥੈ ਦੁਖ ਘਣੇਰਿਆ ਅਗੈ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਠਾਉ ॥੧੦੬॥ aithai dukh ghaneriaa agai tthaur na tthaau |106| They suffer terrible pain here, and hereafter they find no place of rest or refuge. ||106|| - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਫਰੀਦਾ ਪਿਛਲ ਰਾਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਗਿਓਹਿ ਜੀਵਦੜੋ ਮੁਇਓਹਿ ॥ fareedaa pichhal raat na jaagiohi jeevadarro mueohi | Fareed, if you do not awaken in the early hours before dawn, you are dead while yet alive. - Sheikh Farid Ji
ਜੇ ਤੈ ਰਬੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਤ ਰਬਿ ਨ ਵਿਸਰਿਓਹਿ ॥੧੦੭॥ je tai rab visaariaa ta rab na visariohi |107| Although you have forgotten God, God has not forgotten you. ||107|| - Sheikh Farid Ji

ਫਰੀਦਾ ਕੰਤੁ ਰੰਗਾਵਲਾ ਵਡਾ ਵੇਮੁਹਤਾਜੁ ॥ fareedaa kant rangaavalaa vaddaa vemuhataaj | Fareed, my Husband Lord is full of joy; He is Great and Self-sufficient. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਲਹ ਸੇਤੀ ਰਤਿਆ ਏਹੁ ਸਚਾਵਾਂ ਸਾਜੁ ॥੧੦੮॥ alah setee ratiaa ehu sachaavaan saaj |108| To be imbued with the Lord God - this is the most beautiful decoration. ||108|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਫਰੀਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਇਕੁ ਕਰਿ ਦਿਲ ਤੇ ਲਾਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥ fareedaa dukh sukh ik kar dil te laeh vikaar | Fareed, look upon pleasure and pain as the same; eradicate corruption from your heart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਲਹ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਭਲਾ ਤਾਂ ਲਭੀ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ॥੧੦੯॥ alah bhaavai so bhalaa taan labhee darabaar |109| Whatever pleases the Lord God is good; understand this, and you will reach His Court. ||109|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਫਰੀਦਾ ਦੁਨੀ ਵਜਾਈ ਵਜਦੀ ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਵਜਹਿ ਨਾਲਿ ॥ fareedaa dunee vajaaee vajadee toon bhee vajeh naal | Fareed, the world dances as it dances, and you dance with it as well. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋਈ ਜੀਉ ਨ ਵਜਦਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਅਲਹੁ ਕਰਦਾ ਸਾਰ ॥੧੧੦॥ soee jeeo na vajadaa jis alahu karadaa saar |110| That soul alone does not dance with it, who is under the care of the Lord God. ||110|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਫਰੀਦਾ ਦਿਲੁ ਰਤਾ ਇਸੁ ਦੁਨੀ ਸਿਉ ਦੁਨੀ ਨ ਕਿਤੈ ਕੰਮਿ ॥ fareedaa dil rataa is dunee siau dunee na kitai kam | Fareed, the heart is imbued with this world, but the world is of no use to it at all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
