ਜੇਨ ਕਲਾ ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੰ ਨਹ ਛੇਦੰਤ ਜਠਰ ਰੋਗਣਹ ॥ jen kalaa maat garabh pratipaalan neh chhedant jatthar roganah | His Power provides nourishment in the womb of the mother, and does not let disease strike. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੇਨ ਕਲਾ ਅਸਥੰਭੰ ਸਰੋਵਰੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਹ ਛਿਜੰਤਿ ਤਰੰਗ ਤੋਯਣਹ ॥੫੩॥ ten kalaa asathanbhan sarovaran naanak neh chhijant tarang toyanah |53| His Power holds back the ocean, O Nanak, and does not allow the waves of water to destroy the land. ||53|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਸਾਂਈ ਗਰਿਸ੍ਟ ਰੂਪੇਣ ਸਿਮਰਣੰ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਣਹ ॥ gusaanee garisatt roopen simaranan sarabatr jeevanah | The Lord of the World is Supremely Beautiful; His Meditation is the Life of all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਲਬਧੵੰ ਸੰਤ ਸੰਗੇਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਸ੍ਵਛ ਮਾਰਗ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਣਹ ॥੫੪॥ labadhayan sant sangen naanak svachh maarag har bhagatanah |54| In the Society of the Saints, O Nanak, He is found on the path of devotional worship of the Lord. ||54|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਸਕੰ ਭਗਨੰਤ ਸੈਲੰ ਕਰਦਮੰ ਤਰੰਤ ਪਪੀਲਕਹ ॥ masakan bhaganant sailan karadaman tarant papeelakah | The mosquito pierces the stone, the ant crosses the swamp, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਗਰੰ ਲੰਘੰਤਿ ਪਿੰਗੰ ਤਮ ਪਰਗਾਸ ਅੰਧਕਹ ॥ saagaran langhant pingan tam paragaas andhakah | the cripple crosses the ocean, and the blind sees in the darkness, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣਿ ਸਿਮਰੰਤਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ॥੫੫॥ saadh sangen simarant gobind saran naanak har har hare |55| meditating on the Lord of the Universe in the Saadh Sangat. Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord, Har, Har, Haray. ||55|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਲਕ ਹੀਣੰ ਜਥਾ ਬਿਪ੍ਰਾ ਅਮਰ ਹੀਣੰ ਜਥਾ ਰਾਜਨਹ ॥ tilak heenan jathaa bipraa amar heenan jathaa raajanah | Like a Brahmin without a sacred mark on his forehead, or a king without the power of command, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਵਧ ਹੀਣੰ ਜਥਾ ਸੂਰਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਧਰਮ ਹੀਣੰ ਤਥਾ ਬੈਸ੍ਨਵਹ ॥੫੬॥ aavadh heenan jathaa sooraa naanak dharam heenan tathaa baisanavah |56| or a warrior without weapons, so is the devotee of God without Dharmic Faith. ||56|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨ ਸੰਖੰ ਨ ਚਕ੍ਰੰ ਨ ਗਦਾ ਨ ਸਿਆਮੰ ॥ n sankhan na chakran na gadaa na siaaman | God has no conch-shell, no religious mark, no paraphernalia; he does not have blue skin. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਸ੍ਚਰਜ ਰੂਪੰ ਰਹੰਤ ਜਨਮੰ ॥ ascharaj roopan rahant janaman | His Form is Wondrous and Amazing. He is beyond incarnation. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨੇਤ ਨੇਤ ਕਥੰਤਿ ਬੇਦਾ ॥ net net kathant bedaa | The Vedas say that He is not this, and not that. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਊਚ ਮੂਚ ਅਪਾਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਹ ॥ aooch mooch apaar gobindah | The Lord of the Universe is Lofty and High, Great and Infinite. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਸੰਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਰਿਦਯੰ ਅਚੁਤ ਬੁਝੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਡਭਾਗੀਅਹ ॥੫੭॥ basant saadh ridayan achut bujhant naanak baddabhaageeah |57| The Imperishable Lord abides in the hearts of the Holy. He is understood, O Nanak, by those who are very fortunate. ||57|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਉਦਿਆਨ ਬਸਨੰ ਸੰਸਾਰੰ ਸਨਬੰਧੀ ਸ੍ਵਾਨ ਸਿਆਲ ਖਰਹ ॥ audiaan basanan sansaaran sanabandhee svaan siaal kharah | Living in the world, it is like a wild jungle. One’s relatives are like dogs, jackals and donkeys. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਖਮ ਸਥਾਨ ਮਨ ਮੋਹ ਮਦਿਰੰ ਮਹਾਂ ਅਸਾਧ ਪੰਚ ਤਸਕਰਹ ॥ bikham sathaan man moh madiran mahaan asaadh panch tasakarah | In this difficult place, the mind is intoxicated with the wine of emotional attachment; the five unconquered thieves lurk there. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹੀਤ ਮੋਹ ਭੈ ਭਰਮ ਭ੍ਰਮਣੰ ਅਹੰ ਫਾਂਸ ਤੀਖੵਣ ਕਠਿਨਹ ॥ heet moh bhai bharam bhramanan ahan faans teekhayan katthinah | The mortals wander lost in love and emotional attachment, fear and doubt; they are caught in the sharp, strong noose of egotism. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਾਵਕ ਤੋਅ ਅਸਾਧ ਘੋਰੰ ਅਗਮ ਤੀਰ ਨਹ ਲੰਘਨਹ ॥ paavak toa asaadh ghoran agam teer neh langhanah | The ocean of fire is terrifying and impassable. The distant shore is so far away; it cannot be reached. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਜੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਸਰਣ ਉਧਰਣ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ॥੫੮॥ bhaj saadhasang guopaal naanak har charan saran udharan kripaa |58| Vibrate and meditate on the Lord of the World, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; O Nanak, by His Grace, we are saved at the Lotus Feet of the Lord. ||58|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੰਤ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੋਪਾਲਹ ਸਗਲੵੰ ਰੋਗ ਖੰਡਣਹ ॥ kripaa karant gobind gopaalah sagalayan rog khanddanah | When the Lord of the Universe grants His Grace, all illnesses are cured. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣਿ ਗੁਣ ਰਮਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰਹ ॥੫੯॥ saadh sangen gun ramat naanak saran pooran paramesurah |59| Nanak chants His Glorious Praises in the Saadh Sangat, in the Sanctuary of the Perfect Transcendent Lord God. ||59|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਿਆਮਲੰ ਮਧੁਰ ਮਾਨੁਖੵੰ ਰਿਦਯੰ ਭੂਮਿ ਵੈਰਣਹ ॥ siaamalan madhur maanukhayan ridayan bhoom vairanah | The mortal is beautiful and speaks sweet words, but in the farm of his heart, he harbors cruel vengeance. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਿਵੰਤਿ ਹੋਵੰਤਿ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਚੇਤਨੰ ਸੰਤ ਸ੍ਵਜਨਹ ॥੬੦॥ nivant hovant mithiaa chetanan sant svajanah |60| He pretends to bow in worship, but he is false. Beware of him, O friendly Saints. ||60|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਚੇਤ ਮੂੜਾ ਨ ਜਾਣੰਤ ਘਟੰਤ ਸਾਸਾ ਨਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਤੇ ॥ achet moorraa na jaanant ghattant saasaa nit prate | The thoughtless fool does not know that each day, his breaths are being used up. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਛਿਜੰਤ ਮਹਾ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ ਕਾਂਇਆ ਕਾਲ ਕੰਨਿਆ ਗ੍ਰਾਸਤੇ ॥ chhijant mahaa sundaree kaaneaa kaal kaniaa graasate | His most beautiful body is wearing away; old age, the daughter of death, has seized it. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਚੰਤਿ ਪੁਰਖਹ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਲੀਲਾ ਅਨਿਤ ਆਸਾ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਬਿਨੋਦ ॥ rachant purakhah kuttanb leelaa anit aasaa bikhiaa binod | He is engrossed in family play; placing his hopes in transitory things, he indulges in corrupt pleasures. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭ੍ਰਮੰਤਿ ਭ੍ਰਮੰਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਜਨਮ ਹਾਰਿਓ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਮਯਹ ॥੬੧॥ bhramant bhramant bahu janam haario saran naanak karunaa mayah |61| Wandering lost in countless incarnations, he is exhausted. Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Embodiment of Mercy. ||61|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹੇ ਜਿਹਬੇ ਹੇ ਰਸਗੇ ਮਧੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਤੁਯੰ ॥ he jihabe he rasage madhur pria tuyan | O tongue, you love to enjoy the sweet delicacies. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਤ ਹਤੰ ਪਰਮ ਬਾਦੰ ਅਵਰਤ ਏਥਹ ਸੁਧ ਅਛਰਣਹ ॥ sat hatan param baadan avarat ethah sudh achharanah | You are dead to the Truth, and involved in great disputes. Instead, repeat the holy words: - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾਮੋਦਰ ਮਾਧਵੇ ॥੬੨॥ gobind daamodar maadhave |62| Gobind, Daamodar, Maadhav. ||62|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗਰਬੰਤਿ ਨਾਰੀ ਮਦੋਨ ਮਤੰ ॥ garabant naaree madon matan | Those who are proud, and intoxicated with the pleasures of sex, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਲਵੰਤ ਬਲਾਤ ਕਾਰਣਹ ॥ balavant balaat kaaranah | and asserting their power over others, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਨਹ ਭਜੰਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਣ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜਨਮਨਹ ॥ charan kamal neh bhajant trin samaan dhrig janamanah | never contemplate the Lord’s Lotus Feet. Their lives are cursed, and as worthless as straw. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹੇ ਪਪੀਲਕਾ ਗ੍ਰਸਟੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿਮਰਣ ਤੁਯੰ ਧਨੇ ॥ he papeelakaa grasatte gobind simaran tuyan dhane | You are as tiny and insignificant as an ant, but you shall become great, by the Wealth of the Lord’s Meditation. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ਨਮੋ ਨਮਹ ॥੬੩॥ naanak anik baar namo namah |63| Nanak bows in humble worship, countless times, over and over again. ||63|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤ੍ਰਿਣੰ ਤ ਮੇਰੰ ਸਹਕੰ ਤ ਹਰੀਅੰ ॥ trinan ta meran sahakan ta hareean | The blade of grass becomes a mountain, and the barren land becomes green. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬੂਡੰ ਤ ਤਰੀਅੰ ਊਣੰ ਤ ਭਰੀਅੰ ॥ booddan ta tareean aoonan ta bhareean | The drowning one swims across, and the empty is filled to overflowing. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਕੋਟਿ ਸੂਰ ਉਜਾਰੰ ॥ andhakaar kott soor ujaaran | Millions of suns illuminate the darkness, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਦਯਾਰੰ ॥੬੪॥ binavant naanak har gur dayaaran |64| prays Nanak, when the Guru, the Lord, becomes Merciful. ||64|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
