ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀਐ ਲਗੈ ਸਚਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ guramukh aap veechaareeai lagai sach piaar | The Gurmukh reflects on the self, lovingly attached to the True Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੧੦॥ naanak kis no aakheeai aape devanahaar |10| O Nanak, whom can we ask? He Himself is the Great Giver. ||10|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਏਹੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਹੈ ਮਤ ਕੋ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ॥ baabeehaa ehu jagat hai mat ko bharam bhulaae | This world is a rainbird; let no one be deluded by doubt. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਹੁ ਬਾਬੀਂਹਾ ਪਸੂ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਨੋ ਬੂਝਣੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ eihu baabeenhaa pasoo hai is no boojhan naeh | This rainbird is an animal; it has no understanding at all. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਪੀਤੈ ਤਿਖ ਜਾਇ ॥ amrit har kaa naam hai jit peetai tikh jaae | The Name of the Lord is Ambrosial Nectar; drinking it in, thirst is quenched. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਨੑ ਪੀਆ ਤਿਨੑ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਲਾਗੀ ਆਇ ॥੧॥ naanak guramukh jina peea tina bahurr na laagee aae |1| O Nanak, those Gurmukhs who drink it in shall never again be afflicted by thirst. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਲਾਰੁ ਸੀਤਲ ਰਾਗੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਐ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ malaar seetal raag hai har dhiaaeiai saant hoe | Malaar is a calming and soothing raga; meditating on the Lord brings peace and tranquility. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਅਪਣੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਲੋਇ ॥ har jeeo apanee kripaa kare taan varatai sabh loe | When the Dear Lord grants His Grace, then the rain falls on all the people of the world. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਵੁਠੈ ਜੀਆ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਧਰਣੀ ਨੋ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ vutthai jeea jugat hoe dharanee no seegaar hoe | From this rain, all creatures find the ways and means to live, and the earth is embellished. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਲੁ ਹੈ ਜਲ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਕੋਇ ॥ naanak ihu jagat sabh jal hai jal hee te sabh koe | O Nanak, this world is all water; everything came from water. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਸਦਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥ gur parasaadee ko viralaa boojhai so jan mukat sadaa hoe |2| By Guru’s Grace, a rare few realize the Lord; such humble beings are liberated forever. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪਉੜੀ ॥ paurree | Pauree: - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਚਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਇਕੋ ਤੂ ਧਣੀ ॥ sachaa veparavaahu iko too dhanee | O True and Independent Lord God, You alone are my Lord and Master. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤੂ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਦੂਜੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਗਣੀ ॥ too sabh kichh aape aap dooje kis ganee | You Yourself are everything; who else is of any account? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਾਣਸ ਕੂੜਾ ਗਰਬੁ ਸਚੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਮਣੀ ॥ maanas koorraa garab sachee tudh manee | False is the pride of man. True is Your glorious greatness. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਰਚਾਇ ਉਪਾਈ ਮੇਦਨੀ ॥ aavaa gaun rachaae upaaee medanee | Coming and going in reincarnation, the beings and species of the world came into being. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਇਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਗਣੀ ॥ satigur seve aapanaa aaeaa tis ganee | But if the mortal serves his True Guru, his coming into the world is judged to be worthwhile. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ਤ ਕੇਹੀ ਗਣਤ ਗਣੀ ॥ je haumai vichahu jaae ta kehee ganat ganee | And if he eradicates eogtism from within himself, then how can he be judged? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੋਹਿ ਗੁਬਾਰਿ ਜਿਉ ਭੁਲਾ ਮੰਝਿ ਵਣੀ ॥ manamukh mohi gubaar jiau bhulaa manjh vanee | The self-willed manmukh is lost in the darkness of emotional attachment, like the man lost in the wilderness. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਟੇ ਪਾਪ ਅਸੰਖ ਨਾਵੈ ਇਕ ਕਣੀ ॥੧੧॥ katte paap asankh naavai ik kanee |11| Countless sins are erased, by even a tiny particle of the Lord’s Name. ||11|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਖਸਮੈ ਕਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਪਾਇ ॥ baabeehaa khasamai kaa mehal na jaanahee mehal dekh aradaas paae | O rainbird, you do not know the Mansion of your Lord and Master’s Presence. Offer your prayers to see this Mansion. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪਣੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ aapanai bhaanai bahutaa boleh boliaa thaae na paae | You speak as you please, but your speech is not accepted. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਖਸਮੁ ਵਡਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਇਛੇ ਸੋ ਫਲ ਪਾਇ ॥ khasam vaddaa daataar hai jo ichhe so fal paae | Your Lord and Master is the Great Giver; whatever you desire, you shall receive from Him. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਕਿਆ ਬਪੁੜਾ ਜਗਤੈ ਕੀ ਤਿਖ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ baabeehaa kiaa bapurraa jagatai kee tikh jaae |1| Not only the thirst of the poor rainbird, but the thirst of the whole world is quenched. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਭਿੰਨੀ ਰੈਣਿ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ baabeehaa bhinee rain boliaa sahaje sach subhaae | The night is wet with dew; the rainbird sings the True Name with intuitive ease. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਹੁ ਜਲੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਉ ਹੈ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ eihu jal meraa jeeo hai jal bin rehan na jaae | This water is my very soul; without water, I cannot survive. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥ gurasabadee jal paaeeai vichahu aap gavaae | Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, this water is obtained, and egotism is eradicated from within. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਚਸਾ ਨ ਜੀਵਦੀ ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੨॥ naanak jis bin chasaa na jeevadee so satigur deea milaae |2| O Nanak, I cannot live without Him, even for a moment; the True Guru has led me to meet Him. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਖੰਡ ਪਤਾਲ ਅਸੰਖ ਮੈ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ khandd pataal asankh mai ganat na hoee | There are countless worlds and nether regions; I cannot calculate their number. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤੂ ਕਰਤਾ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਿਰਜੀ ਤੁਧੈ ਗੋਈ ॥ too karataa govind tudh sirajee tudhai goee | You are the Creator, the Lord of the Universe; You create it, and You destroy it. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਮੇਦਨੀ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਹੋਈ ॥ lakh chauraaseeh medanee tujh hee te hoee | The 8.4 million species of beings issued forth from You. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਇਕਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਖਾਨ ਮਲੂਕ ਕਹਹਿ ਕਹਾਵਹਿ ਕੋਈ ॥ eik raaje khaan malook kaheh kahaaveh koee | Some are called kings, emperors and nobles. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਇਕਿ ਸਾਹ ਸਦਾਵਹਿ ਸੰਚਿ ਧਨੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥ eik saah sadaaveh sanch dhan doojai pat khoee | Some claim to be bankers and accumulate wealth, but in duality they lose their honor. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਇਕਿ ਦਾਤੇ ਇਕ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਸਭਨਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥ eik daate ik mangate sabhanaa sir soee | Some are givers, and some are beggars; God is above the heads of all. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਬਾਜਾਰੀਆ ਭੀਹਾਵਲਿ ਹੋਈ ॥ vin naavai baajaareea bheehaaval hoee | Without the Name, they are vulgar, dreadful and wretched. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕੂੜ ਨਿਖੁਟੇ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸਚੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੧੨॥ koorr nikhutte naanakaa sach kare su hoee |12| Falsehood shall not last, O Nanak; whatever the True Lord does, comes to pass. ||12|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਉਗਣਵੰਤੀ ਦੂਰਿ ॥ baabeehaa gunavantee mehal paaeaa aauganavantee door | O rainbird, the virtuous soul-bride attains the Mansion of her Lord’s Presence; the unworthy, unvirtuous one is far away. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥ antar terai har vasai guramukh sadaa hajoor | Deep within your inner being, the Lord abides. The Gurmukh beholds Him ever-present. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕੂਕ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਨਦਰੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥ kook pukaar na hovee nadaree nadar nihaal | When the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace, the mortal no longer weeps and wails. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੈ ਘਾਲ ॥੧॥ naanak naam rate sahaje mile sabad guroo kai ghaal |1| O Nanak, those who are imbued with the Naam intuitively merge with the Lord; they practice the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
