ਜਬ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਆਇ ਬਸੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਆਸਨਿ ਤਬ ਹਮ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਗਾਇਆ ॥ jab pria aae base grihi aasan tab ham mangal gaaeaa | When my Beloved came to live in my house, I began to sing the songs of bliss. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੀਤ ਸਾਜਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਏ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ meet saajan mere bhe suhele prabh pooraa guroo milaaeaa |3| My friends and companions are happy; God leads me to meet the Perfect Guru. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਭਏ ਅਨੰਦਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਕਾਰਜ ਹਮਰੇ ਪੂਰੇ ॥ sakhee sahelee bhe anandaa gur kaaraj hamare poore | My friends and companions are in ecstasy; the Guru has completed all my projects. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਵਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਦੂਰੇ ॥੪॥੩॥ kahu naanak var miliaa sukhadaataa chhodd na jaaee doore |4|3| Says Nanak, I have met my Husband, the Giver of peace; He shall never leave me and go away. ||4||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਰਾਜ ਤੇ ਕੀਟ ਕੀਟ ਤੇ ਸੁਰਪਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੋਖ ਜਠਰ ਕਉ ਭਰਤੇ ॥ raaj te keett keett te surapat kar dokh jatthar kau bharate | From a king to a worm, and from a worm to the lord of gods, they engage in evil to fill their bellies. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਛੋਡਿ ਆਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਜਹਿ ਆਤਮ ਘਾਤੀ ਹਰਤੇ ॥੧॥ kripaa nidh chhodd aan kau poojeh aatam ghaatee harate |1| They renounce the Lord, the Ocean of Mercy, and worship some other; they are thieves and killers of the soul. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਤੇ ਦੁਖਿ ਦੁਖਿ ਮਰਤੇ ॥ har bisarat te dukh dukh marate | Forgetting the Lord, they suffer in sorrow and die. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ਭ੍ਰਮਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਟੇਕ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਧਰਤੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ anik baar bhrameh bahu jonee ttek na kaahoo dharate |1| rahaau | They wander lost in reincarnation through all sorts of species; they do not find shelter anywhere. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਆਗਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਨ ਕਉ ਚਿਤਵਤ ਮੂੜ ਮੁਗਧ ਖਲ ਖਰ ਤੇ ॥ tiaag suaamee aan kau chitavat moorr mugadh khal khar te | Those who abandon their Lord and Master and think of some other, are foolish, stupid, idiotic donkeys. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਾਗਰ ਨਾਵ ਲੰਘਹਿ ਕਤ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਕਥਤ ਹਮ ਤਰਤੇ ॥੨॥ kaagar naav langheh kat saagar brithaa kathat ham tarate |2| How can they cross over the ocean in a paper boat? Their eogtistical boasts that they will cross over are meaningless. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਿਵ ਬਿਰੰਚਿ ਅਸੁਰ ਸੁਰ ਜੇਤੇ ਕਾਲ ਅਗਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਜਰਤੇ ॥ siv biranch asur sur jete kaal agan meh jarate | Shiva, Brahma, angels and demons, all burn in the fire of death. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਿ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲਨ ਕੀ ਤੁਮੑ ਨ ਡਾਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰਤੇ ॥੩॥੪॥ naanak saran charan kamalan kee tuma na ddaarahu prabh karate |3|4| Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord’s Lotus Feet; O God, Creator, please do not send me into exile. ||3||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਓਇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥ prabh mere oe bairaagee tiaagee | My God is detached and free of desire. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਉ ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਲਾਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ hau ik khin tis bin reh na skau preet hamaaree laagee |1| rahaau | I cannot survive without Him, even for an instant. I am so in love with Him. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਉਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਜਾਗੀ ॥ aun kai sang mohi prabh chit aavai sant prasaad mohi jaagee | Associating with the Saints, God has come into my consciousness. By their Grace, I have been awakened. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੁਨਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਭਏ ਮਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਏ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਂਗੀ ॥੧॥ sun upades bhe man niramal gun gaae rang raangee |1| Hearing the Teachings, my mind has become immaculate. Imbued with the Lord’s Love, I sing His Glorious Praises. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੇਇ ਕੀਏ ਸੰਤ ਮੀਤਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਭਏ ਬਡਭਾਗਂੀ ॥ eihu man dee kee sant meetaa kripaal bhe baddabhaaganee | Dedicating this mind, I have made friends with the Saints. They have become merciful to me; I am very fortunate. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਬਰਨਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਉ ਰੇਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਪਾਗੀ ॥੨॥੧॥੫॥ mahaa sukh paaeaa baran na saakau ren naanak jan paagee |2|1|5| I have found absolute peace - I cannot describe it. Nanak has obtained the dust of the feet of the humble. ||2||1||5|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਸਗਲ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਸੁਖ ਭਰਿ ਸੂਤੀ ਜਿਹ ਘਰਿ ਲਾਲੁ ਬਸਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ sagal sahelee sukh bhar sootee jih ghar laal basaaee |1| rahaau | All my friends and companions sleep totally in peace; their Beloved Lord has come into the homes of their hearts. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੋਹਿ ਅਵਗਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਨਿ ਕਿਆ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥ mohi avagan prabh sadaa deaalaa mohi niragun kiaa chaturaaee | I am worthless; God is forever Merciful. I am unworthy; what clever tricks could I try? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਉ ਬਰਾਬਰਿ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਂੀ ਇਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਕੀ ਢੀਠਾਈ ॥੧॥ krau baraabar jo pria sang raatanee ih haumai kee dteetthaaee |1| I claim to be on a par with those who are imbued with the Love of their Beloved. This is my stubborn egotism. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਈ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਸਰਨਿ ਇਕ ਤਾਕੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ॥ bhee nimaanee saran ik taakee gur satigur purakh sukhadaaee | I am dishonored - I seek the Sanctuary of the One, the Guru, the True Guru, the Primal Being, the Giver of peace. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਏਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਮਹਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਾਟਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖਿ ਰੈਨਿ ਬਿਹਾਈ ॥੨॥੨॥੬॥ ek nimakh meh meraa sabh dukh kaattiaa naanak sukh rain bihaaee |2|2|6| In an instant, all my pains have been taken away; Nanak passes the night of his life in peace. ||2||2||6|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਬਰਸੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਧਾਰੇ ਹੋਇ ਅਨਦੁ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਚਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ baras piaare maneh sadhaare hoe anad sadaa man chaau |1| rahaau | O beloved cloud, O support of the mind, you bring lasting bliss and joy to the mind. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
