ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਹਾ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੧॥ naanak guramukh naam samaahaa |4|2|11| O Nanak, the Gurmukh merges in the Naam. ||4||2||11|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਲਾਰ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ malaar mahalaa 3 | Malaar, Third Mehl: - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜੀਵਤ ਮੁਕਤ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਲਾਗੇ ॥ jeevat mukat guramatee laage | Those who are attached to the Guru’s Teachings, are Jivan-mukta, liberated while yet alive. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦ ਜਾਗੇ ॥ har kee bhagat anadin sad jaage | They remain forever awake and aware night and day, in devotional worship of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥ satigur seveh aap gavaae | They serve the True Guru, and eradicate their self-conceit. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਸਦ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ hau tin jan ke sad laagau paae |1| I fall at the feet of such humble beings. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਉ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈ ॥ hau jeevaan sadaa har ke gun gaaee | Constantly singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, I live. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ gur kaa sabad mahaa ras meetthaa har kai naam mukat gat paaee |1| rahaau | The Word of the Guru’s Shabad is such totally sweet elixir. Through the Name of the Lord, I have attained the state of liberation. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥ maaeaa mohu agiaan gubaar | Attachment to Maya leads to the darkness of ignorance. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੋਹੇ ਮੁਗਧ ਗਵਾਰ ॥ manamukh mohe mugadh gavaar | The self-willed manukhs are attached, foolish and ignorant. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਧੰਧਾ ਕਰਤ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥ anadin dhandhaa karat vihaae | Night and day, their lives pass away in worldly entanglements. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੨॥ mar mar jameh milai sajaae |2| They die and die again and again, only to be reborn and receive their punishment. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥ guramukh raam naam liv laaee | The Gurmukh is lovingly attuned to the Name of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕੂੜੈ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਨਾ ਲਪਟਾਈ ॥ koorrai laalach naa lapattaaee | He does not cling to false greed. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ jo kichh hovai sehaj subhaae | Whatever he does, he does with intuitive poise. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਇ ॥੩॥ har ras peevai rasan rasaae |3| He drinks in the sublime essence of the Lord; his tongue delights in its flavor. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ kott madhe kiseh bujhaaee | Among millions, hardly any understand. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ aape bakhase de vaddiaaee | The Lord Himself forgives, and bestows His glorious greatness. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੁ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ jo dhur miliaa su vichhurr na jaaee | Whoever meets with the Primal Lord God, shall never be separated again. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੨॥ naanak har har naam samaaee |4|3|12| Nanak is absorbed in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||4||3||12|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਕਹੈ ॥ rasanaa naam sabh koee kahai | Everyone speaks the Name of the Lord with the tongue. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਹੈ ॥ satigur seve taa naam lahai | But only by serving the True Guru does the mortal receive the Name. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਘਰਿ ਰਹੈ ॥ bandhan torre mukat ghar rahai | His bonds are shattered, and he stays in the house of liberation. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਘਰਿ ਬਹੈ ॥੧॥ gurasabadee asathir ghar bahai |1| Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, he sits in the eternal, unchanging house. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਕਾਹੇ ਰੋਸੁ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥ mere man kaahe ros kareejai | O my mind, why are you angry? - Guru Amardas Ji

ਲਾਹਾ ਕਲਜੁਗਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਵੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ laahaa kalajug raam naam hai guramat anadin hiradai raveejai |1| rahaau | In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Lord’s Name is the source of profit. Contemplate and appreciate the Guru’s Teachings within your heart, night and day. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥ baabeehaa khin khin bilalaae | Each and every instant, the rainbird cries and calls. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਦੇਖੇ ਨਂੀਦ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ bin pir dekhe naneed na paae | Without seeing her Beloved, she does not sleep at all. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਇਹੁ ਵੇਛੋੜਾ ਸਹਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ eihu vechhorraa sahiaa na jaae | She cannot endure this separation. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾਂ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੨॥ satigur milai taan milai subhaae |2| When she meets the True Guru, then she intuitively meets her Beloved. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਮਹੀਣੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥ naamaheen binasai dukh paae | Lacking the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the mortal suffers and dies. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਿਆ ਭੂਖ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ trisanaa jaliaa bhookh na jaae | He is burnt in the fire of desire, and his hunger does not depart. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਵਿਣੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥ vin bhaagaa naam na paaeaa jaae | Without good destiny, he cannot find the Naam. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਥਾਕਾ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੩॥ bahu bidh thaakaa karam kamaae |3| He performs all sorts of rituals until he is exhausted. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਬਾਣੀ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ trai gun baanee bed beechaar | The mortal thinks about the Vedic teachings of the three gunas, the three dispositions. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮੈਲੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥ bikhiaa mail bikhiaa vaapaar | He deals in corruption, filth and vice. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਹਿ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥ mar janameh fir hohi khuaar | He dies, only to be reborn; he is ruined over and over again. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤੁਰੀਆ ਗੁਣੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੁ ॥੪॥ guramukh tureea gun ur dhaar |4| The Gurmukh enshrines the glory of the supreme state of celestial peace. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਮਾਨੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ gur maanai maanai sabh koe | One who has faith in the Guru - everyone has faith in him. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ gur bachanee man seetal hoe | Through the Guru’s Word, the mind is cooled and soothed. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥ chahu jug sobhaa niramal jan soe | Throughout the four ages, that humble being is known to be pure. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋਇ ॥੫॥੪॥੧੩॥੯॥੧੩॥੨੨॥ naanak guramukh viralaa koe |5|4|13|9|13|22| O Nanak, that Gurmukh is so rare. ||5||4||13||9||13||22|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਓ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਮਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ ॥ anadin har har dhiaaeo hiradai mat guramat dookh visaaree | Night and day, I meditate on the Lord, Har, Har, within my heart; through the Guru’s Teachings, my pain is forgotten. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਸਭ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੂਟੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ sabh aasaa manasaa bandhan tootte har har prabh kirapaa dhaaree |1| The chains of all my hopes and desires have been snapped; my Lord God has showered me with His Mercy. ||1|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਨੈਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਤਾਰੀ ॥ nainee har har laagee taaree | My eyes gaze eternally on the Lord, Har, Har. - Guru Ramdas Ji
