ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਲੇਹੁ ਨ ਛੀਜੈ ਦੇਹ ॥ nit nit lehu na chheejai deh | Take it each and every day, and your body shall not waste away. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰੈ ਠੇਹ ॥੧॥ ant kaal jam maarai ttheh |1| At the very last instant, you shall strike down the Messenger of Death. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਐਸਾ ਦਾਰੂ ਖਾਹਿ ਗਵਾਰ ॥ aisaa daaroo khaeh gavaar | So take such medicine, O fool, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਜਿਤੁ ਖਾਧੈ ਤੇਰੇ ਜਾਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ jit khaadhai tere jaeh vikaar |1| rahaau | by which your corruption shall be taken away. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਰਾਜੁ ਮਾਲੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਛਾਂਵ ॥ raaj maal joban sabh chhaanv | Power, wealth and youth are all just shadows, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਰਥਿ ਫਿਰੰਦੈ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਥਾਵ ॥ rath firandai deeseh thaav | as are the vehicles you see moving around. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਦੇਹ ਨ ਨਾਉ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਾਤਿ ॥ deh na naau na hovai jaat | Neither your body, nor your fame, nor your social status shall go along with you. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਓਥੈ ਦਿਹੁ ਐਥੈ ਸਭ ਰਾਤਿ ॥੨॥ othai dihu aithai sabh raat |2| In the next world it is day, while here, it is all night. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸਾਦ ਕਰਿ ਸਮਧਾਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਘਿਉ ਤੇਲੁ ॥ saad kar samadhaan trisanaa ghiau tel | Let your taste for pleasures be the firewood, let your greed be the ghee, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਗਨੀ ਸਿਉ ਮੇਲੁ ॥ kaam krodh aganee siau mel | and your sexual desire and anger the cooking oil; burn them in the fire. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਹੋਮ ਜਗ ਅਰੁ ਪਾਠ ਪੁਰਾਣ ॥ hom jag ar paatth puraan | Some make burnt offerings, hold sacred feasts, and read the Puraanas. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣ ॥੩॥ jo tis bhaavai so paravaan |3| Whatever pleases God is acceptable. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਤਪੁ ਕਾਗਦੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨੀਸਾਨੁ ॥ tap kaagad teraa naam neesaan | Intense meditation is the paper, and Your Name is the insignia. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਏਹੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥ jin kau likhiaa ehu nidhaan | Those for whom this treasure is ordered, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤ ਦਿਸਹਿ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ se dhanavant diseh ghar jaae | look wealthy when they reach their true home. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨਨੀ ਧੰਨੀ ਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੩॥੮॥ naanak jananee dhanee maae |4|3|8| O Nanak, blessed is that mother who gave birth to them. ||4||3||8|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਮਲਾਰ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ malaar mahalaa 1 | Malaar, First Mehl: - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਬਾਗੇ ਕਾਪੜ ਬੋਲੈ ਬੈਣ ॥ baage kaaparr bolai bain | You wear white clothes, and speak sweet words. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਲੰਮਾ ਨਕੁ ਕਾਲੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨੈਣ ॥ lamaa nak kaale tere nain | Your nose is sharp, and your eyes are black. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਕਬਹੂੰ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਭੈਣ ॥੧॥ kabahoon saahib dekhiaa bhain |1| Have you ever seen your Lord and Master, O sister? ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਊਡਾਂ ਊਡਿ ਚੜਾਂ ਅਸਮਾਨਿ ॥ aooddaan aoodd charraan asamaan | O my All-powerful Lord and Master, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਿਥ ਤੇਰੈ ਤਾਣਿ ॥ saahib samrith terai taan | By Your power, I fly and soar, and ascend to the heavens. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਡੂੰਗਰਿ ਦੇਖਾਂ ਤੀਰ ॥ jal thal ddoongar dekhaan teer | I see Him in the water, on the land, in the mountains, on the river-banks, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਬੀਰ ॥੨॥ thaan thanantar saahib beer |2| in all places and interspaces, O brother. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਜਿਨਿ ਤਨੁ ਸਾਜਿ ਦੀਏ ਨਾਲਿ ਖੰਭ ॥ jin tan saaj dee naal khanbh | He fashioned the body, and gave it wings; - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਅਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਉਡਣੈ ਕੀ ਡੰਝ ॥ at trisanaa uddanai kee ddanjh | He gave it great thirst and desire to fly. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਬੰਧਾਂ ਧੀਰ ॥ nadar kare taan bandhaan dheer | When He bestows His Glance of Grace, I am comforted and consoled. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਜਿਉ ਵੇਖਾਲੇ ਤਿਉ ਵੇਖਾਂ ਬੀਰ ॥੩॥ jiau vekhaale tiau vekhaan beer |3| As He makes me see, so do I see, O brother. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਨ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਜਾਇਗਾ ਨ ਜਾਹਿਗੇ ਖੰਭ ॥ n ihu tan jaaeigaa na jaahige khanbh | Neither this body, nor its wings, shall go to the world hereafter. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਪਉਣੈ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਗਨੀ ਕਾ ਸਨਬੰਧ ॥ paunai paanee aganee kaa sanabandh | It is a fusion of air, water and fire. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਪੀਐ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੀਰੁ ॥ naanak karam hovai japeeai kar gur peer | O Nanak, if it is in the mortal’s karma, then he meditates on the Lord, with the Guru as his Spiritual Teacher. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਏਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥੪॥੪॥੯॥ sach samaavai ehu sareer |4|4|9| This body is absorbed in the Truth. ||4||4||9|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਮਲਾਰ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਚਉਪਦੇ ਘਰੁ ੧ ॥ malaar mahalaa 3 chaupade ghar 1 | Malaar, Third Mehl, Chau-Padhay, First House: - Guru Amardas Ji

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ik oankaar satigur prasaad | One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru: - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਆਕਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥ nirankaar aakaar hai aape aape bharam bhulaae | The Formless Lord is formed by Himself. He Himself deludes in doubt. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥ kar kar karataa aape vekhai jit bhaavai tith laae | Creating the Creation, the Creator Himself beholds it; He enjoins us as He pleases. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਏਹਾ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮਨਾਏ ॥੧॥ sevak kau ehaa vaddiaaee jaa kau hukam manaae |1| This is the true greatness of His servant, that he obeys the Hukam of the Lord’s Command. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪਣਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਲਹੀਐ ॥ aapanaa bhaanaa aape jaanai gur kirapaa te laheeai | Only He Himself knows His Will. By Guru’s Grace, it is grasped. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਏਹਾ ਸਕਤਿ ਸਿਵੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜੀਵਦਿਆ ਮਰਿ ਰਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ehaa sakat sivai ghar aavai jeevadiaa mar raheeai |1| rahaau | When this play of Shiva and Shakti comes to his home, he remains dead while yet alive. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਵੇਦ ਪੜੈ ਪੜਿ ਵਾਦੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸਾ ॥ ved parrai parr vaad vakhaanai brahamaa bisan mahesaa | They read the Vedas, and read them again, and engage in arguments about Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਏਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਣ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕਾ ਸਹਸਾ ॥ eeh trigun maaeaa jin jagat bhulaaeaa janam maran kaa sahasaa | This three-phased Maya has deluded the whole world into cynicism about death and birth. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਮਨਹੁ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ॥੨॥ gur parasaadee eko jaanai chookai manahu andesaa |2| By Guru’s Grace, know the One Lord, and the anxiety of your mind will be allayed. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਮ ਦੀਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਅਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਤੁਮ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥ ham deen moorakh aveechaaree tum chintaa karahu hamaaree | I am meek, foolish and thoughtless, but still, You take care of me. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹੋਹੁ ਦਇਆਲ ਕਰਿ ਦਾਸੁ ਦਾਸਾ ਕਾ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੀ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥ hohu deaal kar daas daasaa kaa sevaa karee tumaaree | Please be kind to me, and make me the slave of Your slaves, so that I may serve You. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਏਕੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਤੂ ਅਪਣਾ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥੩॥ ek nidhaan dehi too apanaa ahinis naam vakhaanee |3| Please bless me with the treasure of the One Name, that I may chant it, day and night. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕਹਤ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ kehat naanak gur parasaadee boojhahu koee aisaa kare veechaaraa | Says Nanak, by Guru’s Grace, understand. Hardly anyone considers this. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਊਪਰਿ ਫੇਨੁ ਬੁਦਬੁਦਾ ਤੈਸਾ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥ jiau jal aoopar fen budabudaa taisaa ihu sansaaraa | Like foam bubbling up on the surface of the water, so is this world. - Guru Amardas Ji
