ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਉਬਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਰਖਵਾਲਿਆ ॥੩੦॥ naanak gur saranaaee ubare har gur rakhavaaliaa |30| Nanak has come to the Sanctuary of the Guru, and is saved. The Guru, the Lord, is his Protector. ||30|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਵਾਦੁ ਵਖਾਣਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਸੁਆਇ ॥ parr parr panddit vaad vakhaanade maaeaa moh suaae | Reading and writing, the Pandits engage in debates and disputes; they are attached to the flavors of Maya. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥ doojai bhaae naam visaariaa man moorakh milai sajaae | In the love of duality, they forget the Naam. Those foolish mortals shall receive their punishment. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨਿੑ ਕੀਤੇ ਤਿਸੈ ਨ ਸੇਵਨੑੀ ਦੇਦਾ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ jina keete tisai na sevanaee dedaa rijak samaae | They do not serve the One who created them, who gives sustenance to all. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਮ ਕਾ ਫਾਹਾ ਗਲਹੁ ਨ ਕਟੀਐ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ jam kaa faahaa galahu na katteeai fir fir aaveh jaae | The noose of Death around their necks is not cut off; they come and go in reincarnation, over and over again. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਆਇ ॥ jin kau poorab likhiaa satigur miliaa tin aae | The True Guru comes and meets those who have such pre-ordained destiny. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਦੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ anadin naam dhiaaeide naanak sach samaae |1| Night and day, they meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; O Nanak, they merge into the True Lord. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਚੁ ਵਣਜਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੇਵਦੇ ਜਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥ sach vanajeh sach sevade ji guramukh pairee paeh | Those Gurmukhs who fall at His Feet deal with the True Lord and serve the True Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜੇ ਚਲਹਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੨॥ naanak gur kai bhaanai je chaleh sahaje sach samaeh |2| O Nanak, those who walk in harmony with the Guru’s Will are intuitively absorbed in the True Lord. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਸਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਅਤਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਘਣਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥ aasaa vich at dukh ghanaa manamukh chit laaeaa | In hope, there is very great pain; the self-willed manmukh focuses his consciousness on it. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਏ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਪਰਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ guramukh bhe niraas param sukh paaeaa | The Gurmukhs become desireless, and attain supreme peace. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਵਿਚੇ ਗਿਰਹ ਉਦਾਸ ਅਲਿਪਤ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇਆ ॥ viche girah udaas alipat liv laaeaa | In the midst of their household, they remain detached; they are lovingly attuned to the Detached Lord. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਓਨਾ ਸੋਗੁ ਵਿਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪਈ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥ onaa sog vijog na viaapee har bhaanaa bhaaeaa | Sorrow and separation do not cling to them at all. They are pleased with the Lord’s Will. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਸਦਾ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੇ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੩੧॥ naanak har setee sadaa rav rahe dhur le milaaeaa |31| O Nanak, they remain forever immersed in the Primal Lord, who blends them with Himself. ||31|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਪਰਾਈ ਅਮਾਣ ਕਿਉ ਰਖੀਐ ਦਿਤੀ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ paraaee amaan kiau rakheeai ditee hee sukh hoe | Why keep what is held in trust for another? Giving it back, peace is found. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰ ਥੈ ਟਿਕੈ ਹੋਰ ਥੈ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ gur kaa sabad gur thai ttikai hor thai paragatt na hoe | The Word of the Guru’s Shabad rests in the Guru; it does not appear through anyone else. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਨੑੇ ਵਸਿ ਮਾਣਕੁ ਪਇਆ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਵੇਚਣ ਜਾਇ ॥ anae vas maanak peaa ghar ghar vechan jaae | The blind man finds a jewel, and goes from house to house selling it. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਓਨਾ ਪਰਖ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਅਢੁ ਨ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥ onaa parakh na aavee adt na palai paae | But they cannot appraise it, and they do not offer him even half a shell for it. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੇ ਆਪਿ ਪਰਖ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਤਾਂ ਪਾਰਖੀਆ ਥਾਵਹੁ ਲਇਓੁ ਪਰਖਾਇ ॥ je aap parakh na aavee taan paarakheea thaavahu leo parakhaae | If he cannot appraise it himself, then he should have it appraised by an appraiser. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੇ ਓਸੁ ਨਾਲਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਵਥੁ ਲਹੈ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥ je os naal chit laae taan vath lahai nau nidh palai paae | If he focuses his consciousness, then he obtains the true object, and he is blessed with the nine treasures. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਘਰਿ ਹੋਦੈ ਧਨਿ ਜਗੁ ਭੁਖਾ ਮੁਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੋਝੀ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ ghar hodai dhan jag bhukhaa muaa bin satigur sojhee na hoe | The wealth is within the house, while the world is dying of hunger. Without the True Guru, no one has a clue. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਤਿਥੈ ਸੋਗੁ ਵਿਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ sabad seetal man tan vasai tithai sog vijog na koe | When the cooling and soothing Shabad comes to dwell in the mind and body, there is no sorrow or separation there. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਵਸਤੁ ਪਰਾਈ ਆਪਿ ਗਰਬੁ ਕਰੇ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਣਾਏ ॥ vasat paraaee aap garab kare moorakh aap ganaae | The object belongs to someone else, but the fool is proud of it, and shows his shallow nature. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ ॥੧॥ naanak bin boojhe kinai na paaeo fir fir aavai jaae |1| O Nanak, without understanding, no one obtains it; they come and go in reincarnation, over and over again. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨਿ ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਸਰਸੇ ਸਜਣ ਸੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥ man anad bheaa miliaa har preetam sarase sajan sant piaare | My mind is in ecstasy; I have met my Beloved Lord. My beloved friends, the Saints, are delighted. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਕਬਹੂ ਜਿ ਆਪਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਕਰਤਾਰੇ ॥ jo dhur mile na vichhurreh kabahoo ji aap mele karataare | Those who are united with the Primal Lord shall never be separated again. The Creator has united them with Himself. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਗਲੇ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥ antar sabad raviaa gur paaeaa sagale dookh nivaare | The Shabad permeates my inner being, and I have found the Guru; all my sorrows are dispelled. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਖਾਂ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥ har sukhadaataa sadaa salaahee antar rakhaan ur dhaare | I praise forever the Lord, the Giver of peace; I keep Him enshrined deep within my heart. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਬਖੀਲੀ ਕਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥ manamukh tin kee bakheelee ki kare ji sachai sabad savaare | How can the self-willed manmukh gossip about those who are embellished and exalted in the True Word of the Shabad? - Guru Amardas Ji
ਓਨਾ ਦੀ ਆਪਿ ਪਤਿ ਰਖਸੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਪਏ ਗੁਰ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥ onaa dee aap pat rakhasee meraa piaaraa saranaagat pe gur duaare | My Beloved Himself preserves the honor of those who have come to the Guru’s Door seeking Sanctuary. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ਭਏ ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਦਰਬਾਰੇ ॥੨॥ naanak guramukh se suhele bhe mukh aoojal darabaare |2| O Nanak, the Gurmukhs are filled with joy; their faces are radiant in the Court of the Lord. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਇਸਤਰੀ ਪੁਰਖੈ ਬਹੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥ eisataree purakhai bahu preet mil mohu vadhaaeaa | The husband and wife are very much in love; joining together, their love increases. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਪੁਤ੍ਰੁ ਕਲਤ੍ਰੁ ਨਿਤ ਵੇਖੈ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ putru kalatru nit vekhai vigasai mohi maaeaa | Gazing on his children and his wife, the man is pleased and attached to Maya. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਦੇਸਿ ਪਰਦੇਸਿ ਧਨੁ ਚੋਰਾਇ ਆਣਿ ਮੁਹਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ des parades dhan choraae aan muhi paaeaa | Stealing the wealth of his own country and other lands, he brings it home and feeds them. - Guru Ramdas Ji
