ਪਾਪ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਮਨੂਰ ਸਭਿ ਲਦੇ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਰੀ ॥ paap bikaar manoor sabh lade bahu bhaaree | Their sin and corruption are like rusty slag; they carry such a heavy load. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਮਾਰਗੁ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਡਰਾਵਣਾ ਕਿਉ ਤਰੀਐ ਤਾਰੀ ॥ maarag bikham ddaraavanaa kiau tareeai taaree | The path is treacherous and terrifying; how can they cross over to the other side? - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਉਧਾਰੀ ॥੨੭॥ naanak gur raakhe se ubare har naam udhaaree |27| O Nanak, those whom the Guru protects are saved. They are saved in the Name of the Lord. ||27|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥ vin satigur seve sukh nahee mar jameh vaaro vaar | Without serving the True Guru, no one finds peace; mortals die and are reborn, over and over again. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੋਹ ਠਗਉਲੀ ਪਾਈਅਨੁ ਬਹੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥ moh tthgaulee paaeean bahu doojai bhaae vikaar | They have been given the drug of emotional attachment; in love with duality, they are totally corrupt. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਕਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਉਬਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ॥ eik gur parasaadee ubare tis jan kau kareh sabh namasakaar | Some are saved, by Guru’s Grace. Everyone humbly bows before such humble beings. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰ ॥੧॥ naanak anadin naam dhiaae too antar jit paaveh mokh duaar |1| O Nanak, meditate on the Naam, deep within yourself, day and night. You shall find the Door of Salvation. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥ maaeaa mohi visaariaa sach maranaa har naam | Emotionally attached to Maya, the mortal forgets truth, death and the Name of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਧੰਧਾ ਕਰਤਿਆ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਹਾਮੁ ॥ dhandhaa karatiaa janam geaa andar dukh sahaam | Engaged in worldly affairs, his life wastes away; deep within himself, he suffers in pain. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਨੑ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਰਾਮੁ ॥੨॥ naanak satigur sev sukh paaeaa jina poorab likhiaa karaam |2| O Nanak, those who have the karma of such pre-ordained destiny, serve the True Guru and find peace. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਲੇਖਾ ਪੜੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ lekhaa parreeai har naam fir lekh na hoee | Read the account of the Name of the Lord, and you shall never again be called to account. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਪੁਛਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸਦ ਢੋਈ ॥ puchh na sakai koe har dar sad dtoee | No one will question you, and you will always be safe in the Court of the Lord. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਦੇ ਭੇਟ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਨਿਤ ਹੋਈ ॥ jamakaal milai de bhett sevak nit hoee | The Messenger of Death will meet you, and be your constant servant. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਪਤਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਲੋਈ ॥ poore gur te mehal paaeaa pat paragatt loee | Through the Perfect Guru, you shall find the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence. You shall be famous throughout the world. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਹਦ ਧੁਨੀ ਦਰਿ ਵਜਦੇ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥੨੮॥ naanak anahad dhunee dar vajade miliaa har soee |28| O Nanak, the unstruck celestial melody vibrates at your door; come and merge with the Lord. ||28|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਕਹਿਆ ਜੇ ਕਰੇ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੂ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ gur kaa kahiaa je kare sukhee hoo sukh saar | Whoever follows the Guru’s Teachings, attains the most sublime peace of all peace. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਰਣੀ ਭਉ ਕਟੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਪਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ gur kee karanee bhau katteeai naanak paaveh paar |1| Acting in accordance with the Guru, his fear is cut away; O Nanak, he is carried across. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਚੁ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਨਾ ਥੀਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਮੈਲਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ sach puraanaa naa theeai naam na mailaa hoe | The True Lord does not grow old; His Naam is never dirtied. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜੇ ਚਲੈ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਆਵਣੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ gur kai bhaanai je chalai bahurr na aavan hoe | Whoever walks in harmony with the Guru’s Will, shall not be reborn again. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਐ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਦੋਇ ॥੨॥ naanak naam visaariai aavan jaanaa doe |2| O Nanak, those who forget the Naam, come and go in reincarnation. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪਉੜੀ ॥ paurree | Pauree: - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਮੰਗਤ ਜਨੁ ਜਾਚੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਹੁ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ mangat jan jaachai daan har dehu subhaae | I am a beggar; I ask this blessing of You: O Lord, please embellish me with Your Love. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਹੈ ਦਰਸਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਇ ॥ har darasan kee piaas hai darasan tripataae | I am so thirsty for the Blessed Vision of the Lord’s Darshan; His Darshan brings me satisfaction. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਊ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੇਖੇ ਮਰਾਂ ਮਾਇ ॥ khin pal gharree na jeevaoo bin dekhe maraan maae | I cannot live for a moment, for even an instant, without seeing Him, O my mother. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਲਿ ਦਿਖਾਲਿਆ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਥਾਇ ॥ satigur naal dikhaaliaa rav rahiaa sabh thaae | The Guru has shown me that the Lord is always with me; He is permeating and pervading all places. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸੁਤਿਆ ਆਪਿ ਉਠਾਲਿ ਦੇਇ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੨੯॥ sutiaa aap utthaal dee naanak liv laae |29| He Himself wakes the sleepers, O Nanak, and lovingly attunes them to Himself. ||29|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬੋਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੑੀ ਓਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥ manamukh bol na jaananaee onaa andar kaam krodh ahankaar | The self-willed manmukhs do not even know how to speak. They are filled with sexual desire, anger and egotism. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਥਾਉ ਕੁਥਾਉ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਸਦਾ ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥ thaau kuthaau na jaananee sadaa chitaveh bikaar | They do not know the difference between good and bad; they constantly think of corruption. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦਰਗਹ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਓਥੈ ਹੋਹਿ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ॥ daragah lekhaa mangeeai othai hohi koorriaar | In the Lord’s Court, they are called to account, and they are judged to be false. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈਅਨੁ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ aape srisatt upaaeean aap kare beechaar | He Himself creates the Universe. He Himself contemplates it. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਸਭੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥ naanak kis no aakheeai sabh varatai aap sachiaar |1| O Nanak, whom should we tell? The True Lord is permeating and pervading all. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਿਨੑੀ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਜਿਨੑ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ har guramukh tinaee araadhiaa jina karam paraapat hoe | The Gurmukhs worship and adore the Lord; they receive the good karma of their actions. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਤਿਨੑ ਕਉ ਜਿਨੑ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥ naanak hau balihaaree tina kau jina har man vasiaa soe |2| O Nanak, I am a sacrifice to those whose minds are filled with the Lord. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਸ ਕਰੇ ਸਭੁ ਲੋਕੁ ਬਹੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥ aas kare sabh lok bahu jeevan jaaniaa | All people cherish hope, that they will live long lives. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਿਤ ਜੀਵਣ ਕਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਗੜੑ ਮੰਡਪ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥ nit jeevan kau chit garra manddap savaariaa | They wish to live forever; they adorn and embellish their forts and mansions. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਵਲਵੰਚ ਕਰਿ ਉਪਾਵ ਮਾਇਆ ਹਿਰਿ ਆਣਿਆ ॥ valavanch kar upaav maaeaa hir aaniaa | By various frauds and deceptions, they steal the wealth of others. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਨਿਹਾਲੇ ਸਾਸ ਆਵ ਘਟੈ ਬੇਤਾਲਿਆ ॥ jamakaal nihaale saas aav ghattai betaaliaa | But the Messenger of Death keeps his gaze on their breath, and the life of those goblins decreases day by day. - Guru Ramdas Ji
