ਕਿਉ ਨ ਅਰਾਧਹੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਧਹੁ ਘਰੀ ਮੁਹਤਕ ਬੇਲਾ ਆਈ ॥ kiau na araadhahu mil kar saadhahu gharee muhatak belaa aaee | Why do you not worship and adore Him? Join together with the Holy Saints; any instant, your time shall come. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਰਥੁ ਦਰਬੁ ਸਭੁ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਕਛਹੂ ਜਾਈ ॥ arath darab sabh jo kichh deesai sang na kachhahoo jaaee | All your property and wealth, and all that you see - none of it will go along with you. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧਹੁ ਕਵਨ ਉਪਮਾ ਦੇਉ ਕਵਨ ਬਡਾਈ ॥੨॥ kahu naanak har har aaraadhahu kavan upamaa deo kavan baddaaee |2| Says Nanak, worship and adore the Lord, Har, Har. What praise, and what approval, can I offer to Him? ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੂਛਉ ਸੰਤ ਮੇਰੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕੈਸਾ ॥ poochhau sant mero tthaakur kaisaa | I ask the Saints, what is my Lord and Master like? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਂੀਉ ਅਰਾਪਉਂ ਦੇਹੁ ਸਦੇਸਾ ॥ haneeo araapaun dehu sadesaa | I offer my heart, to one who brings me news of Him. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੇਹੁ ਸਦੇਸਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਕੈਸਾ ਕਹ ਮੋਹਨ ਪਰਵੇਸਾ ॥ dehu sadesaa prabh jeeo kaisaa keh mohan paravesaa | Give me news of my Dear God; where does the Enticer live? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅੰਗ ਅੰਗ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਈ ਥਾਨ ਥਾਨੰਤਰ ਦੇਸਾ ॥ ang ang sukhadaaee pooran brahamaaee thaan thaanantar desaa | He is the Giver of peace to life and limb; God is totally permeating all places, interspaces and countries. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬੰਧਨ ਤੇ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਜੁਗਤਾ ਕਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਜੈਸਾ ॥ bandhan te mukataa ghatt ghatt jugataa keh na skau har jaisaa | He is liberated from bondage, joined to each and every heart. I cannot say what the Lord is like. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੇਖਿ ਚਰਿਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਪੂਛੈ ਦੀਨੁ ਮੇਰੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕੈਸਾ ॥੩॥ dekh charit naanak man mohio poochhai deen mero tthaakur kaisaa |3| Gazing upon His wondrous play, O Nanak, my mind is fascinated. I humbly ask, what is my Lord and Master like? ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥ kar kirapaa apune peh aaeaa | In His Kindness, He has come to His humble servant. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਧੰਨਿ ਸੁ ਰਿਦਾ ਜਿਹ ਚਰਨ ਬਸਾਇਆ ॥ dhan su ridaa jih charan basaaeaa | Blessed is that heart, in which the Lord’s Feet are enshrined. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਰਨ ਬਸਾਇਆ ਸੰਤ ਸੰਗਾਇਆ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ charan basaaeaa sant sangaaeaa agiaan andher gavaaeaa | His Feet are enshrined within, in the Society of the Saints; the darkness of ignorance is dispelled. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਉਲਾਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲੋੜੀਦਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ bheaa pragaas ridai ulaas prabh lorreedaa paaeaa | The heart is enlightened and illumined and enraptured; God has been found. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੁਖੁ ਨਾਠਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਵੂਠਾ ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਸਹਜਾਇਆ ॥ dukh naatthaa sukh ghar meh vootthaa mahaa anand sahajaaeaa | Pain is gone, and peace has come to my house. The ultimate intuitive peace prevails. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੈ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੧॥ kahu naanak mai pooraa paaeaa kar kirapaa apune peh aaeaa |4|1| Says Nanak, I have found the Perfect Lord; in His Kindness, He has come to His humble servant. ||4||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਗੁਰੁ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਪਾਹੂ ਨਿਵਲੁ ਮਨੁ ਕੋਠਾ ਤਨੁ ਛਤਿ ॥ gur kunjee paahoo nival man kotthaa tan chhat | The key of the Guru opens the lock of attachment, in the house of the mind, under the roof of the body. - Guru Angad Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਨ ਕਾ ਤਾਕੁ ਨ ਉਘੜੈ ਅਵਰ ਨ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹਥਿ ॥੧॥ naanak gur bin man kaa taak na ugharrai avar na kunjee hath |1| O Nanak, without the Guru, the door of the mind cannot be opened. No one else holds the key in hand. ||1|| - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਰਾਗੀ ਨਾਦੀ ਬੇਦਿ ॥ n bheejai raagee naadee bed | He is not won over by music, songs or the Vedas. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜੋਗਿ ॥ n bheejai suratee giaanee jog | He is not won over by intuitive wisdom, meditation or Yoga. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸੋਗੀ ਕੀਤੈ ਰੋਜਿ ॥ n bheejai sogee keetai roj | He is not won over by feeling sad and depressed forever. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਰੂਪਂੀ ਮਾਲਂੀ ਰੰਗਿ ॥ n bheejai roopanee maalanee rang | He is not won over by beauty, wealth and pleasures. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਭਵਿਐ ਨੰਗਿ ॥ n bheejai teerath bhaviai nang | He is not won over by wandering naked at sacred shrines. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਦਾਤਂੀ ਕੀਤੈ ਪੁੰਨਿ ॥ n bheejai daatanee keetai pun | He is not won over by giving donations in charity. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਬੈਠਿਆ ਸੁੰਨਿ ॥ n bheejai baahar baitthiaa sun | He is not won over by living alone in the wilderness. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਭੇੜਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਭਿੜਿ ਸੂਰ ॥ n bheejai bherr mareh bhirr soor | He is not won over by fighting and dying as a warrior in battle. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਕੇਤੇ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਧੂੜ ॥ n bheejai kete hoveh dhoorr | He is not won over by becoming the dust of the masses. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਲੇਖਾ ਲਿਖੀਐ ਮਨ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ॥ lekhaa likheeai man kai bhaae | The account is written of the loves of the mind. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਭੀਜੈ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੨॥ naanak bheejai saachai naae |2| O Nanak, the Lord is won over only by His Name. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਨਵ ਛਿਅ ਖਟ ਕਾ ਕਰੇ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ nav chhia khatt kaa kare beechaar | You may study the nine grammars, the six Shaastras and the six divions of the Vedas. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਿਸਿ ਦਿਨ ਉਚਰੈ ਭਾਰ ਅਠਾਰ ॥ nis din ucharai bhaar atthaar | You may recite the Mahaabhaarata. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤਿਨਿ ਭੀ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਤੋਹਿ ॥ tin bhee ant na paaeaa tohi | Even these cannot find the limits of the Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਿਉ ਹੋਇ ॥ naam bihoon mukat kiau hoe | Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, how can anyone be liberated? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਭਿ ਵਸਤ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥ naabh vasat brahamai ant na jaaniaa | Brahma, in the lotus of the navel, does not know the limits of God. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ guramukh naanak naam pachhaaniaa |3| The Gurmukh, O Nanak, realizes the Naam. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪਉੜੀ ॥ paurree | Pauree: - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥ aape aap niranjanaa jin aap upaaeaa | The Immaculate Lord Himself, by Himself, created Himself. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਚਾਇਓਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥ aape khel rachaaeon sabh jagat sabaaeaa | He Himself created the whole drama of all the world’s play. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਆਪਿ ਸਿਰਜਿਅਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥ trai gun aap sirajian maaeaa mohu vadhaaeaa | He Himself formed the three gunas, the three qualities; He increased the attachment to Maya. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਿਨ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥ gur parasaadee ubare jin bhaanaa bhaaeaa | By Guru’s Grace, they are saved - those who love the Will of God. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਸਭ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ naanak sach varatadaa sabh sach samaaeaa |1| O Nanak, the True Lord is pervading everywhere; all are contained within the True Lord. ||1|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
