ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਚਰਨ ਲਾਗੇ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਤਿਆਗੇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਲਬਧਿ ਅਪਨੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ santan kai charan laage kaam krodh lobh tiaage gur gopaal bhe kripaal labadh apanee paaee |1| Grasping hold of the Feet of the Saints, I have abandoned sexual desire, anger and greed. The Guru, the Lord of the World, has been kind to me, and I have realized my destiny. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਨਸੇ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਅੰਧ ਟੂਟੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਬੰਧ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਨਹ ਕੋਊ ਬੈਰਾਈ ॥ binase bhram moh andh ttootte maaeaa ke bandh pooran sarabatr tthaakur neh koaoo bairaaee | My doubts and attachments have been dispelled, and the blinding bonds of Maya have been broken. My Lord and Master is pervading and permeating everywhere; no one is an enemy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਭਏ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੋਖ ਗਏ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਚਰਨ ਲਾਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਈ ॥੨॥੩॥੧੩੨॥ suaamee suprasan bhe janam maran dokh ge santan kai charan laag naanak gun gaaee |2|3|132| My Lord and Master is totally satisfied with me; He has rid me of the pains of death and birth. ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਸੁਨਨ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਨ ਅਨਿਕ ਪਾਤਿਕ ਪੁਨਹਚਰਨ ॥ sravan sunan bhagat karan anik paatik punahacharan | Hear Him with your ears, and practice devotional worship - these are good deeds, which make up for past evils. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਰਨ ਪਰਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਆਨ ਬਾਨਿ ਬਿਸਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ saran paran saadhoo aan baan bisaare |1| So seek the Sanctuary of the Holy, and forget all your other habits. ||1||. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨੀਤ ਨੀਤਿ ਪਾਵਨਾ ਮਹਿ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਨੀਤ ॥ har charan preet neet neet paavanaa meh mahaa puneet | Love the Lord’s Feet, continually and continuously - the most sacred and sanctified. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੇਵਕ ਭੈ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਨ ਕਲਿਮਲ ਦੋਖ ਜਾਰੇ ॥ sevak bhai door karan kalimal dokh jaare | Fear is taken away from the servant of the Lord, and the dirty sins and mistakes of the past are burnt away. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹਤ ਮੁਕਤ ਸੁਨਤ ਮੁਕਤ ਰਹਤ ਜਨਮ ਰਹਤੇ ॥ kehat mukat sunat mukat rehat janam rahate | Those who speak are liberated, and those who listen are liberated; those who keep the Rehit, the Code of Conduct, are not reincarnated again. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਸਾਰ ਭੂਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥੨॥੪॥੧੩੩॥ raam raam saar bhoot naanak tat beechaare |2|4|133| The Lord’s Name is the most sublime essence; Nanak contemplates the nature of reality. ||2||4||133|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਾਇ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇ ਗੁਨ ਗੋੁਬਿੰਦ ਸਦਾ ਗਾਇ ॥ preet laae har dhiaae gun guobind sadaa gaae | Meditate lovingly on the Lord, and sing forever the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਰੇਨ ਬਾਂਛੁ ਦੈਨਹਾਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥੧॥ har jan kee ren baanchh dainahaar suaamee |1| I long for the dust of the feet of the Lord’s humble servant, O Great Giver, my Lord and Master. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਰਬ ਕੁਸਲ ਸੁਖ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ਆਨਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਾਮ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਕਛੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥ sarab kusal sukh bisraam aanadaa aanand naam jam kee kachh naeh traas simar antarajaamee | The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the ultimate ecstasy, bliss, happiness, peace and tranquility. The fear is death is dispelled by meditating in remembrance on the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਏਕ ਸਰਨ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਚਰਨ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਗਲ ਤਾਪ ਹਰਨ ॥ ek saran gobind charan sansaar sagal taap haran | Only the Sanctuary of the Feet of the Lord of the Universe can destroy all the suffering of the world. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਗੁਨ ਲਾਲ ਗਾਵਉ ਗੁਰ ਦੇਖੇ ॥ gun laal gaavau gur dekhe | Gazing upon my Guru, I sing the Praises of my Beloved Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੰਚਾ ਤੇ ਏਕੁ ਛੂਟਾ ਜਉ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਗ ਰਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ panchaa te ek chhoottaa jau saadhasang pag rau |1| rahaau | I escape from the five thieves, and I find the One, when I join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਉ ਕਛੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਮਾਨੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਮੋਹਾ ॥ dristtau kachh sang na jaae maan tiaag mohaa | Nothing of the visible world shall go along with you; abandon your pride and attachment. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਏਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਾਇ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਸੋਹਾ ॥੧॥ ekai har preet laae mil saadhasang sohaa |1| Love the One Lord, and join the Saadh Sangat, and you shall be embellished and exalted. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਾਇਓ ਹੈ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਗਲ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ॥ paaeo hai gun nidhaan sagal aas pooree | I have found the Lord, the Treasure of Excellence; all my hopes have been fulfilled. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਅਨੰਦ ਭਏ ਗੁਰਿ ਬਿਖਮ ਗਾਰ੍ਹ ਤੋਰੀ ॥੨॥੬॥੧੩੫॥ naanak man anand bhe gur bikham gaarh toree |2|6|135| Nanak’s mind is in ecstasy; the Guru has shattered the impregnable fortress. ||2||6||135|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਤਨ ਸੇਵਿ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਹੀਅਰੈ ਧਿਆਇਓ ॥ saadhoo santan sev kai priau heearai dhiaaeo | Serving the Holy Saints, I meditate on my Beloved within my heart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਨੰਦ ਰੂਪੀ ਪੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਵਉਗੀ ॥੧॥ aanand roopee pekh kai hau mehal paavaugee |1| Gazing upon the Embodiment of Ecstasy, I rise to the Mansion of His Presence. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਾਮ ਕਰੀ ਸਭ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰਉਗੀ ॥ kaam karee sabh tiaag kai hau saran praugee | I work for Him; I have forsaken everything else. I seek only His Sanctuary. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਗਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਹਉ ਗੁਰ ਮਨਾਵਉਗੀ ॥੨॥੭॥੧੩੬॥ naanak suaamee gar mile hau gur manaavaugee |2|7|136| O Nanak, my Lord and Master hugs me close in His Embrace; the Guru is pleased and satisfied with me. ||2||7||136|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਮਾਤਰ ਪਿਤਰ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਕੈ ਮਨੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਪਾਹਿ ਬੇਚਾਇਓ ॥ maatar pitar tiaag kai man santan paeh bechaaeo | I have abandoned my mother and father, and sold my mind to the Saints. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਤਿ ਜਨਮ ਕੁਲ ਖੋਈਐ ਹਉ ਗਾਵਉ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੀ ॥੧॥ jaat janam kul khoeeai hau gaavau har haree |1| I have lost my social status, birth-right and ancestry; I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਲੋਕ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਤੇ ਟੂਟੀਐ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਰੀ ॥ lok kuttanb te ttootteeai prabh kirat kirat karee | I have broken away from other people and family; I work only for God. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
