ਸਾਰਗ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ saarag mahalaa 5 | Saarang, Fifth Mehl: - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਈ ਰੀ ਮਾਤੀ ਚਰਣ ਸਮੂਹ ॥ maaee ree maatee charan samooh | O mother, I am totally intoxicated with the Lord’s Feet. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਏਕਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਉ ਆਨ ਨ ਜਾਨਉ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਭਾਉ ਸਭ ਲੂਹ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ekas bin hau aan na jaanau duteea bhaau sabh looh |1| rahaau | I know of none other than the Lord. I have totally burnt off my sense of duality. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਆਗਿ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ਅਵਰ ਜੋ ਕਰਣਾ ਤੇ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕੇ ਖੂਹ ॥ tiaag guopaal avar jo karanaa te bikhiaa ke khooh | To abandon the Lord of the World, and become involved with anything else, is to fall into the pit of corruption. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਰਸ ਪਿਆਸ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਕਾਢੀ ਨਰਕ ਤੇ ਧੂਹ ॥੧॥ daras piaas meraa man mohio kaadtee narak te dhooh |1| My mind is enticed, thirsty for the Blessed Vision of His Darshan. He has lifted me up and out of hell. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਬਿਨਸੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਹੂਹ ॥ sant prasaad milio sukhadaataa binasee haumai hooh | By the Grace of the Saints, I have met the Lord, the Giver of peace; the noise of egotism has been stilled. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਉਲਿਓ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਜੂਹ ॥੨॥੯੫॥੧੧੮॥ raam rang raate daas naanak maulio man tan jooh |2|95|118| Slave Nanak is imbued with the Love of the Lord; the forests of his mind and body have blossomed forth. ||2||95||118|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਬਿਨਸੇ ਕਾਚ ਕੇ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ॥ binase kaach ke biauhaar | The false dealings are finished. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਾਮ ਭਜੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਇਹੈ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ raam bhaj mil saadhasangat ihai jag meh saar |1| rahaau | Join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and meditate, vibrate on the Lord. This is the most excellent thing in the world. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਈਤ ਊਤ ਨ ਡੋਲਿ ਕਤਹੂ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ eet aoot na ddol katahoo naam hiradai dhaar | Here and hereafter, you shall never waver; enshrine the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within your heart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਭਾਗੀ ਉਤਰਿਓ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥੧॥ gur charan bohith milio bhaagee utario sansaar |1| The boat of the Guru’s Feet is found by great good fortune; it shall carry you across the world-ocean. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਰਬ ਨਾਥ ਅਪਾਰ ॥ jal thal maheeal poor rahio sarab naath apaar | The Infinite Lord is totally permeating and pervading the water, the land and the sky. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਨ ਰਸ ਸਭਿ ਖਾਰ ॥੨॥੯੬॥੧੧੯॥ har naam amrit peeo naanak aan ras sabh khaar |2|96|119| Drink in the Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord’s Name; O Nanak, all other tastes are bitter. ||2||96||119|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਮਹਾ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਮੋਹ ਮਦ ਮਾਤੌ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਹਿ ਹਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ mahaa bikaar moh mad maatau simarat naeh hare |1| rahaau |
- you are intoxicated with the great corruption of attachment and pride, but you do not remember the Lord in meditation. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਪਤੇ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਦੋਖ ਜਰੇ ॥ saadhasang japate naaraaein tin ke dokh jare | Those who meditate on the Lord in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy - the guilt of their minstakes is burnt away. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਫਲ ਦੇਹ ਧੰਨਿ ਓਇ ਜਨਮੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਲੇ ॥੧॥ safal deh dhan oe janame prabh kai sang rale |1| Fruitful is the body, and blessed is the birth of those who merge with God. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਾਰਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਅਸਟ ਦਸਾ ਸਿਧਿ ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਸਾਧ ਭਲੇ ॥ chaar padaarath asatt dasaa sidh sabh aoopar saadh bhale | The four great blessings, and the eighteen supernatural spiritual powers - above all these are the Holy Saints. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਧੂਰਿ ਜਨ ਬਾਂਛੈ ਉਧਰਹਿ ਲਾਗਿ ਪਲੇ ॥੨॥੯੭॥੧੨੦॥ naanak daas dhoor jan baanchhai udhareh laag pale |2|97|120| Slave Nanak longs for the dust of the feet of the humble; attached to the hem of His robe, he is saved. ||2||97||120|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਜਨ ਕਾਂਖੀ ॥ har ke naam ke jan kaankhee | The Lord’s humble servants yearn for the Lord’s Name. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਚਨਿ ਏਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਚਾਹਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਰਸੁ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਕਬ ਆਖੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ man tan bachan ehee sukh chaahat prabh daras dekheh kab aakhee |1| rahaau | In thought, word and deed, they long for this peace, to gaze with their eyes upon the Blessed Vision of God’s Darshan. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੂ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਗਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਲਾਖੀ ॥ too beant paarabraham suaamee gat teree jaae na laakhee | You are Endless, O God, my Supreme Lord and Master; Your state cannot be known. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਸਰਬਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਾਖੀ ॥੧॥ charan kamal preet man bedhiaa kar sarabas antar raakhee |1| My mind is pierced through by the Love of Your Lotus Feet; this is everything to me - I enshrine it deep within my being. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨ ਇਹ ਬਾਣੀ ਰਸਨਾ ਭਾਖੀ ॥ bed puraan simrit saadhoo jan ih baanee rasanaa bhaakhee | In the Vedas, the Puraanas and the Simritees, the humble and the Holy chant this Bani with their tongues. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਪਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਸਤਰੀਐ ਹੋਰੁ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਬਿਰਥੀ ਸਾਖੀ ॥੨॥੯੮॥੧੨੧॥ jap raam naam naanak nisatareeai hor duteea birathee saakhee |2|98|121| Chanting the Lord’s Name, O Nanak, I am emancipated; other teachings of duality are useless. ||2||98||121|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਮਾਖੀ ਰਾਮ ਕੀ ਤੂ ਮਾਖੀ ॥ maakhee raam kee too maakhee | A fly! You are just a fly, created by the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਹ ਦੁਰਗੰਧ ਤਹਾ ਤੂ ਬੈਸਹਿ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਦ ਚਾਖੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ jeh duragandh tahaa too baiseh mahaa bikhiaa mad chaakhee |1| rahaau | Wherever it stinks, you land there; you suck in the most toxic stench. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਿਤਹਿ ਅਸਥਾਨਿ ਤੂ ਟਿਕਨੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਦੇਖੀ ਆਖੀ ॥ kiteh asathaan too ttikan na paaveh ih bidh dekhee aakhee | You don’t stay put anywhere; I have seen this with my eyes. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਤੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਛਾਡਿਆ ਸੰਤ ਪਰੇ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਕੀ ਪਾਖੀ ॥੧॥ santaa bin tai koe na chhaaddiaa sant pare gobid kee paakhee |1| You have not spared anyone, except the Saints - the Saints are on the side of the Lord of the Universe. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਗਲੇ ਤੈ ਮੋਹੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੰਤਾ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਲਾਖੀ ॥ jeea jant sagale tai mohe bin santaa kinai na laakhee | You have enticed all beings and creatures; no one knows You, except the Saints. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਖੀ ॥੨॥੯੯॥੧੨੨॥ naanak daas har keeratan raataa sabad surat sach saakhee |2|99|122| Slave Nanak is imbued with the Kirtan of the Lord’s Praises. Focusing his consciousness on the Word of the Shabad, he realizes the Presence of the True Lord. ||2||99||122|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਤ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਏ ਬੀਚੇ ਗ੍ਰਸਤ ਉਦਾਸ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ har har japat sarab sukh paae beeche grasat udaas |1| rahaau | Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, I have found total peace. I remain unattached in the midst of my household. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
