ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਤ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਓ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਰੇਸਟ ਪੂਰੀ ॥ sodhat sodhat tat beechaario bhagat saresatt pooree | Searching and searching, I have realized the essence of reality: devotional worship is the most sublime fulfillment. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਧਿ ਊਰੀ ॥੨॥੬੨॥੮੫॥ kahu naanak ik raam naam bin avar sagal bidh aooree |2|62|85| Says Nanak, without the Name of the One Lord, all other ways are imperfect. ||2||62||85|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਸਾਚੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾਤਾਰਾ ॥ saache satiguroo daataaraa | The True Guru is the True Giver. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਸਗਲ ਦੁਖ ਨਾਸਹਿ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ darasan dekh sagal dukh naaseh charan kamal balihaaraa |1| rahaau | Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, all my pains are dispelled. I am a sacrifice to His Lotus Feet. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਤਿ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਸਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ॥ sat paramesar sat saadh jan nihachal har kaa naau | The Supreme Lord God is True, and True are the Holy Saints; the Name of the Lord is steady and stable. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੀ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥੧॥ bhagat bhaavanee paarabraham kee abinaasee gun gaau |1| So worship the Imperishable, Supreme Lord God with love, and sing His Glorious Praises. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਮਿਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥ agam agochar mit nahee paaeeai sagal ghattaa aadhaar | The limits of the Inaccessible, Unfathomable Lord cannot be found; He is the Support of all hearts. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਕਹੁ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰੁ ॥੨॥੬੩॥੮੬॥ naanak vaahu vaahu kahu taa kau jaa kaa ant na paar |2|63|86| O Nanak, chant, “Waaho! Waaho!” to Him, who has no end or limitation. ||2||63||86|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਬਸੈ ਸਭ ਨੇਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ poor rahio tthaakur sabh thaaee nikatt basai sabh nerai |1| rahaau | My Lord and Master is permeating and pervading all places; He dwells nearby, close to all. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਬਨਿ ਆਈ ॥ bandhan tor raam liv laaee santasang ban aaee | Breaking my bonds, I have lovingly tuned in to the Lord, and now the Saints are pleased with me. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਭਇਓ ਪੁਨੀਤਾ ਇਛਾ ਸਗਲ ਪੁਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ janam padaarath bheo puneetaa ichhaa sagal pujaaee |1| This precious human life has been sanctified, and all my desires have been fulfilled. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵੈ ॥ jaa kau kripaa karahu prabh mere so har kaa jas gaavai | O my God, whoever You bless with Your Mercy - he alone sings Your Glorious Praises. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਦ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੨॥੬੪॥੮੭॥ aatth pehar gobind gun gaavai jan naanak sad bal jaavai |2|64|87| Servant Nanak is a sacrifice to that person who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe, twenty-four hours a day. ||2||64||87|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਜੀਵਨੁ ਤਉ ਗਨੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਪੇਖਾ ॥ jeevan tau ganeeai har pekhaa | A person is judged to be alive, only if he sees the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮਨਮੋਹਨ ਫੋਰਿ ਭਰਮ ਕੀ ਰੇਖਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ karahu kripaa preetam manamohan for bharam kee rekhaa |1| rahaau | Please be merciful to me, O my Enticing Beloved Lord, and erase the record of my doubts. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹਤ ਸੁਨਤ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਉਪਜਤ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਸਾਸ ਕਿਆ ਸੇਖਾਂ ॥ kehat sunat kichh saant na upajat bin bisaas kiaa sekhaan | By speaking and listening, tranquility and peace are not found at all. What can anyone learn without faith? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਆਨ ਜੋ ਚਾਹਤ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਕਾਲੇਖਾ ॥੧॥ prabhoo tiaag aan jo chaahat taa kai mukh laagai kaalekhaa |1| One who renounces God and longs for another - his face is blackened with filth. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰਾਸਿ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਨ ਨ ਮਾਨਤ ਭੇਖਾ ॥ jaa kai raas sarab sukh suaamee aan na maanat bhekhaa | One who is blessed with the wealth of our Lord and Master, the Embodiment of Peace, does not believe in any other religious doctrine. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਸ ਮਗਨ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਰਥ ਬਿਸੇਖਾ ॥੨॥੬੫॥੮੮॥ naanak daras magan man mohio pooran arath bisekhaa |2|65|88| O Nanak, one whose mind is fascinated and intoxicated with the Blessed Vision of the Lord’s Darshan - his tasks are perfectly accomplished. ||2||65||88|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਸਿਮਰਨ ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮ ॥ simaran raam ko ik naam | Meditate in remembrance on the Naam, the Name of the One Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਲਮਲ ਦਗਧ ਹੋਹਿ ਖਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਦਾਨ ਇਸਨਾਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ kalamal dagadh hohi khin antar kott daan isanaan |1| rahaau | In this way, the sins of your past mistakes shall be burnt off in an instant. It is like giving millions in charity, and bathing at sacred shrines of pilgrimage. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਨ ਜੰਜਾਰ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਘਾਲਤ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਫੋਕਟ ਗਿਆਨ ॥ aan janjaar brithaa sram ghaalat bin har fokatt giaan | Entangled in other affairs, the mortal suffers uselessly in sorrow. Without the Lord, wisdom is useless. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਸੰਕਟ ਤੇ ਛੂਟੈ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਭਜਨ ਸੁਖ ਧਿਆਨ ॥੧॥ janam maran sankatt te chhoottai jagadees bhajan sukh dhiaan |1| The mortal is freed of the anguish of death and birth, meditating and vibrating on the Blissful Lord of the Universe. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਦਾਨ ॥ teree saran pooran sukh saagar kar kirapaa devahu daan | I seek Your Sancutary, O Perfect Lord, Ocean of Peace. Please be merciful, and bless me with this gift. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਵੈ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ॥੨॥੬੬॥੮੯॥ simar simar naanak prabh jeevai binas jaae abhimaan |2|66|89| Meditating, meditating in remembrance on God, Nanak lives; his egotistical pride has been eradicated. ||2||66||89|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਧੂਰਤੁ ਸੋਈ ਜਿ ਧੁਰ ਕਉ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ dhoorat soee ji dhur kau laagai | He alone is a Dhoorat, who is attached to the Primal Lord God. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋਈ ਧੁਰੰਧਰੁ ਸੋਈ ਬਸੁੰਧਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਏਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਪਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ soee dhurandhar soee basundhar har ek prem ras paagai |1| rahaau | He alone is a Dhurandhar, and he alone is a Basundhar, who is absorbed in the sublime essence of Love of the One Lord. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਲਬੰਚ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਲਾਭੈ ਸੋ ਧੂਰਤੁ ਨਹੀ ਮੂੜੑਾ ॥ balabanch karai na jaanai laabhai so dhoorat nahee moorraa | One who practices deception and does not know where true profit lies is not a Dhoorat - he is a fool. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੁਆਰਥੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਅਸਾਰਥਿ ਰਚਿਓ ਨਹ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰੂੜਾ ॥੧॥ suaarath tiaag asaarath rachio neh simarai prabh roorraa |1| He abandons profitable enterprises and is involved in unprofitable ones. He does not meditate on the Beauteous Lord God. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋਈ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਸੋ ਸੂਰਾ ਸੋ ਦਾਨਾਂ ॥ soee chatur siaanaa panddit so sooraa so daanaan | He alone is clever and wise and a religious scholar, he alone is a brave warrior, and he alone is intelligent, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ ॥੨॥੬੭॥੯੦॥ saadhasang jin har har japio naanak so paravaanaa |2|67|90| who chants the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. O Nanak, he alone is approved. ||2||67||90|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
