ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ik oankaar sat naam karataa purakh nirbhau niravair akaal moorat ajoonee saibhan gur prasaad | One Universal Creator God. ਅਪੁਨੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੀ ਹਉ ਚੇਰੀ ॥ apune tthaakur kee hau cheree | I am the hand-maiden of my Lord and Master. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਚਰਨ ਗਹੇ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਨਿਬੇਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ charan gahe jagajeevan prabh ke haumai maar niberee |1| rahaau | I have grasped the Feet of God, the Life of the world. He has killed and eradicated my egotism. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥ pooran param jot paramesar preetam praan hamaare | He is the Perfect, Supreme Light, the Supreme Lord God, my Beloved, my Breath of Life. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮੋਹਨ ਮੋਹਿ ਲੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਮਝਸਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ mohan mohi leea man meraa samajhas sabad beechaare |1| The Fascinating Lord has fascinated my mind; contemplating the Word of the Shabad, I have come to understand. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਹੀਨ ਹੋਛੀ ਮਤਿ ਝੂਠੀ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਪੀਰ ਸਰੀਰੇ ॥ manamukh heen hochhee mat jhootthee man tan peer sareere | The worthless self-willed manmukh, with false and shallow understanding - his mind and body are held in pain’s grip. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਬ ਕੀ ਰਾਮ ਰੰਗੀਲੈ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਾਮ ਜਪਤ ਮਨ ਧੀਰੇ ॥੨॥ jab kee raam rangeelai raatee raam japat man dheere |2| Since I came to be imbued with the Love of my Beautiful Lord, I meditate on the Lord, and my mind is encouraged. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਛੋਡਿ ਭਈ ਬੈਰਾਗਨਿ ਤਬ ਸਾਚੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਮਾਨੀ ॥ haumai chhodd bhee bairaagan tab saachee surat samaanee | Abandoning egotism, I have become detached. And now, I absorb true intuitive understanding. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅਕੁਲ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਬਿਸਰੀ ਲਾਜ ਲੋੁਕਾਨੀ ॥੩॥ akul niranjan siau man maaniaa bisaree laaj luokaanee |3| The mind is pleased and appeased by the Pure, Immaculate Lord; the opinions of other people are irrelevant. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਭੂਰ ਭਵਿਖ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੁਮ ਜੈਸੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥ bhoor bhavikh naahee tum jaise mere preetam praan adhaaraa | There is no other like You, in the past or in the future, O my Beloved, my Breath of Life, my Support. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੀ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਭਤਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥ har kai naam ratee sohaagan naanak raam bhataaraa |4|1| The soul-bride is imbued with the Name of the Lord; O Nanak, the Lord is her Husband. ||4||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਰਹੀਐ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥ har bin kiau raheeai dukh biaapai | How can I survive without the Lord? I am suffering in pain. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਫੀਕੀ ਰਸ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾਲੁ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ jihavaa saad na feekee ras bin bin prabh kaal santaapai |1| rahaau | My tongue does not taste - all is bland without the Lord’s sublime essence. Without God, I suffer and die. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਦਰਸੁ ਨ ਪਰਸੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਤਬ ਲਗੁ ਭੂਖ ਪਿਆਸੀ ॥ jab lag daras na parasai preetam tab lag bhookh piaasee | As long as I do not attain the Blessed Vision of my Beloved, I remain hungry and thirsty. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਤ ਹੀ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਜਲ ਰਸਿ ਕਮਲ ਬਿਗਾਸੀ ॥੧॥ darasan dekhat hee man maaniaa jal ras kamal bigaasee |1| Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, my mind is pleased and appeased. The lotus blossoms forth in the water. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਊਨਵਿ ਘਨਹਰੁ ਗਰਜੈ ਬਰਸੈ ਕੋਕਿਲ ਮੋਰ ਬੈਰਾਗੈ ॥ aoonav ghanahar garajai barasai kokil mor bairaagai | The low-hanging clouds crack with thunder and burst. The cuckoos and the peacocks are filled with passion, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤਰਵਰ ਬਿਰਖ ਬਿਹੰਗ ਭੁਇਅੰਗਮ ਘਰਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਧਨ ਸੋਹਾਗੈ ॥੨॥ taravar birakh bihang bhueiangam ghar pir dhan sohaagai |2| along with the birds in the trees, the bulls and the snakes. The soul-bride is happy when her Husband Lord returns home. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕੁਚਿਲ ਕੁਰੂਪਿ ਕੁਨਾਰਿ ਕੁਲਖਨੀ ਪਿਰ ਕਾ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥ kuchil kuroop kunaar kulakhanee pir kaa sehaj na jaaniaa | She is filthy and ugly, unfeminine and ill-mannered - she has no intuitive understanding of her Husband Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਸਨ ਨਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੂਖ ਸਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੩॥ har ras rang rasan nahee tripatee duramat dookh samaaniaa |3| She is not satisfied by the sublime essence of her Lord’s Love; she is evil-minded, immersed in her pain. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਇ ਨ ਜਾਵੈ ਨਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਨਾ ਦੁਖ ਦਰਦੁ ਸਰੀਰੇ ॥ aae na jaavai naa dukh paavai naa dukh darad sareere | The soul-bride does not come and go in reincarnation or suffer in pain; her body is not touched by the pain of disease. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਹੇਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਖਤ ਹੀ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰੇ ॥੪॥੨॥ naanak prabh te sehaj suhelee prabh dekhat hee man dheere |4|2| O Nanak, she is intuitively embellished by God; seeing God, her mind is encouraged. ||4||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਿ ਮੇਰੋ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਏ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ satigur bachan mero man maaniaa har paae praan adhaaraa |1| rahaau | My mind is pleased and appeased by the Word of the True Guru’s Teachings. I have found the Lord, the Support of my breath of life. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
