ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਜਨੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੭॥ har ras raataa jan paravaan |7| That humble being who is imbued with the sublime essence of the Lord is certified and approved. ||7|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਇਤ ਉਤ ਦੇਖਉ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਾਵਉ ॥ eit ut dekhau sahaje raavau | I see Him here and there; I dwell on Him intuitively. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਭਾਵਉ ॥ tujh bin tthaakur kisai na bhaavau | I do not love any other than You, O Lord and Master. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇਆ ॥ naanak haumai sabad jalaaeaa | O Nanak, my ego has been burnt away by the Word of the Shabad. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਦਰਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥੮॥੩॥ satigur saachaa daras dikhaaeaa |8|3| The True Guru has shown me the Blessed Vision of the True Lord. ||8||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਚੰਚਲੁ ਚੀਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਪਾਰਾ ॥ chanchal cheet na paavai paaraa | The fickle consciousness cannot find the Lord’s limits. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਬਾਰਾ ॥ aavat jaat na laagai baaraa | It is caught in non-stop coming and going. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਦੂਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਮਰੀਐ ਕਰਤਾਰਾ ॥ dookh ghano mareeai karataaraa | I am suffering and dying, O my Creator. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕੋ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਸਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ bin preetam ko karai na saaraa |1| No one cares for me, except my Beloved. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਭ ਊਤਮ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਉ ਹੀਨਾ ॥ sabh aootam kis aakhau heenaa | All are high and exalted; how can I call anyone low? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਪਤੀਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ har bhagatee sach naam pateenaa |1| rahaau | Devotional worship of the Lord and the True Name has satisfied me. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅਉਖਧ ਕਰਿ ਥਾਕੀ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ॥ aaukhadh kar thaakee bahutere | I have taken all sorts of medicines; I am so tired of them. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਿਉ ਦੁਖੁ ਚੂਕੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੇਰੇ ॥ kiau dukh chookai bin gur mere | How can this disease be cured, without my Guru? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੂਖ ਘਣੇਰੇ ॥ bin har bhagatee dookh ghanere | Without devotional worship of the Lord, the pain is so great. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਦਾਤੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮੇਰੇ ॥੨॥ dukh sukh daate tthaakur mere |2| My Lord and Master is the Giver of pain and pleasure. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਰੋਗੁ ਵਡੋ ਕਿਉ ਬਾਂਧਉ ਧੀਰਾ ॥ rog vaddo kiau baandhau dheeraa | The disease is so deadly; how can I find the courage? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਰੋਗੁ ਬੁਝੈ ਸੋ ਕਾਟੈ ਪੀਰਾ ॥ rog bujhai so kaattai peeraa | He knows my disease, and only He can take away the pain. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮੈ ਅਵਗਣ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥ mai avagan man maeh sareeraa | My mind and body are filled with faults and demerits. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਢੂਢਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਬੀਰਾ ॥੩॥ dtoodtat khojat gur mele beeraa |3| I searched and searched, and found the Guru, O my brother! ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਦਾਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥ gur kaa sabad daaroo har naau | The Word of the Guru’s Shabad, and the Lord’s Name are the cures. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਵੈ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ jiau too raakheh tivai rahaau | As You keep me, so do I remain. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਗੁ ਰੋਗੀ ਕਹ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਉ ॥ jag rogee keh dekh dikhaau | The world is sick; where should I look? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਾਇਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥ har niramaaeil niramal naau |4| The Lord is Pure and Immaculate; Immaculate is His Name. ||4|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਘਰੁ ਜੋ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥ ghar meh ghar jo dekh dikhaavai | The Guru sees and reveals the Lord’s home, deep within the home of the self; - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਮਹਲੀ ਸੋ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਵੈ ॥ gur mahalee so mehal bulaavai | He ushers the soul-bride into the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਚਿਤ ਮਹਿ ਚੀਤਾ ॥ man meh manooaa chit meh cheetaa | When the mind remains in the mind, and the consciousness in the consciousness, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਐਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਲੋਗ ਅਤੀਤਾ ॥੫॥ aise har ke log ateetaa |5| such people of the Lord remain unattached. ||5|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਤੇ ਰਹਹਿ ਨਿਰਾਸਾ ॥ harakh sog te raheh niraasaa | They remain free of any desire for happiness or sorrow; - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਚਾਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸਾ ॥ amrit chaakh har naam nivaasaa | tasting the Amrit, the Ambrosial Nectar, they abide in the Lord’s Name. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ aap pachhaan rahai liv laagaa | They recognize their own selves, and remain lovingly attuned to the Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਨਮੁ ਜੀਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਭਾਗਾ ॥੬॥ janam jeet guramat dukh bhaagaa |6| They are victorious on the battlefield of life, following the Guru’s Teachings, and their pains run away. ||6|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਸਚੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵਉ ॥ gur deea sach amrit peevau | The Guru has given me the True Ambrosial Nectar; I drink it in. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਹਜਿ ਮਰਉ ਜੀਵਤ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਉ ॥ sehaj mrau jeevat hee jeevau | Of course, I have died, and now I am alive to live. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅਪਣੋ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ apano kar raakhahu gur bhaavai | Please, protect me as Your Own, if it pleases You. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤੁਮਰੋ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੭॥ tumaro hoe su tujheh samaavai |7| One who is Yours, merges into You. ||7|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਭੋਗੀ ਕਉ ਦੁਖੁ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਆਪੈ ॥ bhogee kau dukh rog viaapai | Painful diseases afflict those who are sexually promiscuous. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਪੈ ॥ ghatt ghatt rav rahiaa prabh jaapai | God appears permeating and pervading in each and every heart. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਤੀਤਾ ॥ sukh dukh hee te gur sabad ateetaa | One who remains unattached, through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਵੈ ਹਿਤ ਚੀਤਾ ॥੮॥੪॥ naanak raam ravai hit cheetaa |8|4|

ਮਤੁ ਭਸਮ ਅੰਧੂਲੇ ਗਰਬਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ mat bhasam andhoole garab jaeh | Do not make such a show of rubbing ashes on your body. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਾਗੇ ਜੋਗੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ein bidh naage jog naeh |1| O naked Yogi, this is not the way of Yoga! ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮੂੜੑੇ ਕਾਹੇ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਓ ਤੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ॥ moorrae kaahe bisaario tai raam naam | You fool! How can you have forgotten the Lord’s Name? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਆਵੈ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ant kaal terai aavai kaam |1| rahaau | At the very last moment, it and it alone shall be of any use to you. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਿ ਤੁਮ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ gur poochh tum karahu beechaar | Consult the Guru, reflect and think it over. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਸਾਰਿਗਪਾਣਿ ॥੨॥ jeh dekhau teh saarigapaan |2| Wherever I look, I see the Lord of the World. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਿਆ ਹਉ ਆਖਾ ਜਾਂ ਕਛੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ kiaa hau aakhaa jaan kachhoo naeh | What can I say? I am nothing. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਾਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੩॥ jaat pat sabh terai naae |3| All my status and honor are in Your Name. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਾਹੇ ਮਾਲੁ ਦਰਬੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਗਰਬਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ kaahe maal darab dekh garab jaeh | Why do you take such pride in gazing upon your property and wealth? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਚਲਤੀ ਬਾਰ ਤੇਰੋ ਕਛੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੪॥ chalatee baar tero kachhoo naeh |4| When you must leave, nothing shall go along with you. ||4|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪੰਚ ਮਾਰਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਰਖਹੁ ਥਾਇ ॥ panch maar chit rakhahu thaae | So subdue the five thieves, and hold your consciousness in its place. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਇਹੈ ਪਾਂਇ ॥੫॥ jog jugat kee ihai paane |5| This is the basis of the way of Yoga. ||5|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਪੈਖੜੁ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨੈ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ haumai paikharr tere manai maeh | Your mind is tied with the rope of egotism. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੬॥ har na cheteh moorre mukat jaeh |6| You do not even think of the Lord - you fool! He alone shall liberate you. ||6|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਤ ਹਰਿ ਵਿਸਰਿਐ ਜਮ ਵਸਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥ mat har visariai jam vas paeh | If you forget the Lord, you will fall into the clutches of the Messenger of Death. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਚੋਟ ਖਾਹਿ ॥੭॥ ant kaal moorre chott khaeh |7| At that very last moment, you fool, you shall be beaten. ||7|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
