ਤੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਕਿਹ ਬਿਚਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ tai saachaa maaniaa kih bichaar |1| What makes you think that it is real? ||1|| - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
ਧਨੁ ਦਾਰਾ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਗ੍ਰੇਹ ॥ dhan daaraa sanpat greh | Wealth, spouse, property and household - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
ਕਛੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਚਾਲੈ ਸਮਝ ਲੇਹ ॥੨॥ kachh sang na chaalai samajh leh |2|
- none of them shall go along with you; you must know that this is true! ||2|| - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
ਇਕ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਾਰਾਇਨ ਹੋਇ ਸੰਗਿ ॥ eik bhagat naaraaein hoe sang | Only devotion to the Lord shall go with you. - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji

ਕਹਾ ਭੂਲਿਓ ਰੇ ਝੂਠੇ ਲੋਭ ਲਾਗ ॥ kahaa bhoolio re jhootthe lobh laag | Why do you wander lost, O mortal, attached to falsehood and greed? - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
ਕਛੁ ਬਿਗਰਿਓ ਨਾਹਿਨ ਅਜਹੁ ਜਾਗ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ kachh bigario naahin ajahu jaag |1| rahaau | Nothing has been lost yet - there is still time to wake up! ||1||Pause|| - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
ਸਮ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਕੈ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਜਾਨੁ ॥ sam supanai kai ihu jag jaan | You must realize that this world is nothing more than a dream. - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
ਬਿਨਸੈ ਛਿਨ ਮੈ ਸਾਚੀ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ binasai chhin mai saachee maan |1| In an instant, it shall perish; know this as true. ||1|| - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਸਤ ਨੀਤ ॥ sang terai har basat neet | The Lord constantly abides with you. - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
ਨਿਸ ਬਾਸੁਰ ਭਜੁ ਤਾਹਿ ਮੀਤ ॥੨॥ nis baasur bhaj taeh meet |2| Night and day, vibrate and meditate on Him, O my friend. ||2|| - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
ਬਾਰ ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਹੋਇ ਸਹਾਇ ॥ baar ant kee hoe sahaae | At the very last instant, He shall be your Help and Support. - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji

ਜਗੁ ਕਊਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਹੀ ਚੀਤਿ ॥ jag kaooaa naam nahee cheet | The world is a crow; it does not remember the Naam, the Name of the Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਗਿਰੈ ਦੇਖੁ ਭੀਤਿ ॥ naam bisaar girai dekh bheet | Forgetting the Naam, it sees the bait, and pecks at it. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਨੂਆ ਡੋਲੈ ਚੀਤਿ ਅਨੀਤਿ ॥ manooaa ddolai cheet aneet | The mind wavers unsteadily, in guilt and deceit. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਗ ਸਿਉ ਤੂਟੀ ਝੂਠ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ jag siau toottee jhootth pareet |1| I have shattered my attachment to the false world. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਬਜਰੁ ਭਾਰੁ ॥ kaam krodh bikh bajar bhaar | The burden of sexual desire, anger and corruption is unbearable. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਗੁਨ ਚਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ naam binaa kaise gun chaar |1| rahaau | Without the Naam, how can the mortal maintain a virtuous lifestyle? ||1||Pause|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਘਰੁ ਬਾਲੂ ਕਾ ਘੂਮਨ ਘੇਰਿ ॥ ghar baaloo kaa ghooman gher | The world is like a house of sand, built on a whirlpool; - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬਰਖਸਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਬੁਦਬੁਦਾ ਹੇਰਿ ॥ barakhas baanee budabudaa her | it is like a bubble formed by drops of rain. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਬੂੰਦ ਤੇ ਧਰਿ ਚਕੁ ਫੇਰਿ ॥ maatr boond te dhar chak fer | It is formed from a mere drop, when the Lord’s wheel turns round. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਰਬ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਕੀ ਚੇਰਿ ॥੨॥ sarab jot naamai kee cher |2| The lights of all souls are the servants of the Lord’s Name. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਰਬ ਉਪਾਇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਿਰਿ ਮੋਰੁ ॥ sarab upaae guroo sir mor | My Supreme Guru has created everything. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਉ ਪਗ ਲਾਗਉ ਤੋਰ ॥ bhagat krau pag laagau tor | I perform devotional worship service to You, and fall at Your Feet, O Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੋ ਚਾਹਉ ਤੁਝ ਓਰੁ ॥ naam rato chaahau tujh or | Imbued with Your Name, I long to be Yours. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਦੁਰਾਇ ਚਲੈ ਸੋ ਚੋਰੁ ॥੩॥ naam duraae chalai so chor |3| Those who do not let the Naam become manifest within themselves, depart like thieves in the end. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ਬਿਖੁ ਅੰਚਲਿ ਪਾਇ ॥ pat khoee bikh anchal paae | The mortal loses his honor, gathering sin and corruption. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਾਚ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੋ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ saach naam rato pat siau ghar jaae | But imbued with the Lord’s Name, you shall go to your true home with honor. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਨੑਸਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਜਾਇ ॥ jo kichh keenas prabh rajaae | God does whatever He wills. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਭੈ ਮਾਨੈ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਇ ॥੪॥ bhai maanai nirbhau meree maae |4| One who abides in the Fear of God, becomes fearless, O my mother. ||4|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਾਮਨਿ ਚਾਹੈ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਭੋਗੁ ॥ kaaman chaahai sundar bhog | The woman desires beauty and pleasure. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪਾਨ ਫੂਲ ਮੀਠੇ ਰਸ ਰੋਗ ॥ paan fool meetthe ras rog | But betel leaves, garlands of flowers and sweet tastes lead only to disease. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਖੀਲੈ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਤੇਤੋ ਸੋਗ ॥ kheelai bigasai teto sog | The more she plays and enjoys, the more she suffers in sorrow. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਕੀਨੑਸਿ ਹੋਗ ॥੫॥ prabh saranaagat keenas hog |5| But when she enters into the Sanctuary of God, whatever she wishes comes to pass. ||5|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਾਪੜੁ ਪਹਿਰਸਿ ਅਧਿਕੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥ kaaparr pahiras adhik seegaar | She wears beautiful clothes with all sorts of decorations. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਾਟੀ ਫੂਲੀ ਰੂਪੁ ਬਿਕਾਰੁ ॥ maattee foolee roop bikaar | But the flowers turn to dust, and her beauty leads her into evil. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਬਾਂਧੋ ਬਾਰੁ ॥ aasaa manasaa baandho baar | Hope and desire have blocked the doorway. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਸੂਨਾ ਘਰੁ ਬਾਰੁ ॥੬॥ naam binaa soonaa ghar baar |6| Without the Naam, one’s hearth and home are deserted. ||6|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗਾਛਹੁ ਪੁਤ੍ਰੀ ਰਾਜ ਕੁਆਰਿ ॥ gaachhahu putree raaj kuaar | O princess, my daughter, run away from this place! - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਭਣਹੁ ਸਚੁ ਦੋਤੁ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥ naam bhanahu sach dot savaar | Chant the True Name, and embellish your days. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਅਧਾਰਿ ॥ priau sevahu prabh prem adhaar | Serve your Beloved Lord God, and lean on the Support of His Love. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਬਿਖੁ ਤਿਆਸ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ॥੭॥ gurasabadee bikh tiaas nivaar |7| Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, abandon your thirst for corruption and poison. ||7|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮੋਹਨਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਲੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿ ॥ mohan mohi leea man mohi | My Fascinating Lord has fascinated my mind. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਨਾ ਤੋਹਿ ॥ gur kai sabad pachhaanaa tohi | Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, I have realized You, Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਠਾਢੇ ਚਾਹਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੁਆਰਿ ॥ naanak tthaadte chaaheh prabhoo duaar | Nanak stands longingly at God’s Door. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੮॥੧॥ tere naam santokhe kirapaa dhaar |8|1| I am content and satisfied with Your Name; please shower me with Your Mercy. ||8||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਅਤਿ ਲੁਬਧ ਲੁਭਾਨਉ ਬਿਖਮ ਮਾਇ ॥ at lubadh lubhaanau bikham maae | It is lured by the poisonous lure of Maya. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਹ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਦੀਸੈ ਏਕ ਭਾਇ ॥ neh asathir deesai ek bhaae | It does not remain stable in the Love of the One Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਮੀਨ ਕੁੰਡਲੀਆ ਕੰਠਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ jiau meen kunddaleea kantth paae |1| Like the fish, its neck is pierced by the hook. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਨੁ ਭੂਲਉ ਸਮਝਸਿ ਸਾਚ ਨਾਇ ॥ man bhoolau samajhas saach naae | The deluded mind is instructed by the True Name. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
