ਭੈਰਉ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਘਰੁ ੨ ॥ bhairau mahalaa 3 ghar 2 | Bhairao, Third Mehl, Second House: - Guru Amardas Ji
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ik oankaar satigur prasaad | One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru: - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤਿਨਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਇਕੁ ਚਲਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥ tin karatai ik chalat upaaeaa | The Creator has staged His Wondrous Play. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਹਦ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ॥ anahad baanee sabad sunaaeaa | I listen to the Unstruck Sound-current of the Shabad, and the Bani of His Word. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ॥ manamukh bhoole guramukh bujhaaeaa | The self-willed manmukhs are deluded and confused, while the Gurmukhs understand. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥ kaaran karataa karadaa aaeaa |1| The Creator creates the Cause that causes. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥ gur kaa sabad merai antar dhiaan | Deep within my being, I meditate on the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਛੋਡਉ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ hau kabahu na chhoddau har kaa naam |1| rahaau | I shall never forsake the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦੁ ਪੜਣ ਪਠਾਇਆ ॥ pitaa prahalaad parran patthaaeaa | Prahlaad’s father sent him to school, to learn to read. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਲੈ ਪਾਟੀ ਪਾਧੇ ਕੈ ਆਇਆ ॥ lai paattee paadhe kai aaeaa | He took his writing tablet and went to the teacher. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹ ਪੜਉ ਅਚਾਰ ॥ naam binaa neh prrau achaar | He said, “I shall not read anything except the Naam, the Name of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੇਰੀ ਪਟੀਆ ਲਿਖਿ ਦੇਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੨॥ meree patteea likh dehu gobind muraar |2| Write the Lord’s Name on my tablet.” ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਸਿਉ ਕਹਿਆ ਮਾਇ ॥ putr prahilaad siau kahiaa maae | Prahlaad’s mother said to her son, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪਰਵਿਰਤਿ ਨ ਪੜਹੁ ਰਹੀ ਸਮਝਾਇ ॥ paravirat na parrahu rahee samajhaae | “I advise you not to read anything except what you are taught.” - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮੇਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥ nirbhau daataa har jeeo merai naal | He answered, “The Great Giver, my Fearless Lord God is always with me. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਛੋਡਉ ਤਉ ਕੁਲਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਗਾਲਿ ॥੩॥ je har chhoddau tau kul laagai gaal |3| If I were to forsake the Lord, then my family would be disgraced.” ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦਿ ਸਭਿ ਚਾਟੜੇ ਵਿਗਾਰੇ ॥ prahalaad sabh chaattarre vigaare | “Prahlaad has corrupted all the other students. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਮਾਰਾ ਕਹਿਆ ਨ ਸੁਣੈ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥ hamaaraa kahiaa na sunai aapane kaaraj savaare | He does not listen to what I say, and he does his own thing. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਭ ਨਗਰੀ ਮਹਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਈ ॥ sabh nagaree meh bhagat drirraaee | He instigated devotional worship in the townspeople.” - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੁਸਟ ਸਭਾ ਕਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਵਸਾਈ ॥੪॥ dusatt sabhaa kaa kichh na vasaaee |4| The gathering of the wicked people could not do anything against him. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੰਡੈ ਮਰਕੈ ਕੀਈ ਪੂਕਾਰ ॥ sanddai marakai keeee pookaar | Sanda and Marka, his teachers, made the complaint. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਭੇ ਦੈਤ ਰਹੇ ਝਖ ਮਾਰਿ ॥ sabhe dait rahe jhakh maar | All the demons kept trying in vain. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਸੋਈ ॥ bhagat janaa kee pat raakhai soee | The Lord protected His humble devotee, and preserved his honor. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕੀਤੇ ਕੈ ਕਹਿਐ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਈ ॥੫॥ keete kai kahiai kiaa hoee |5| What can be done by mere created beings? ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਿਰਤ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਦੈਤਿ ਰਾਜੁ ਚਲਾਇਆ ॥ kirat sanjogee dait raaj chalaaeaa | Because of his past karma, the demon ruled over his kingdom. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਿਨਿ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥ har na boojhai tin aap bhulaaeaa | He did not realize the Lord; the Lord Himself confused him. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਸਿਉ ਵਾਦੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥ putr prahalaad siau vaad rachaaeaa | He started an argument with his son Prahlaad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਧਾ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਕਾਲੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਆਇਆ ॥੬॥ andhaa na boojhai kaal nerrai aaeaa |6| The blind one did not understand that his death was approaching. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦੁ ਕੋਠੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਬਾਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਤਾਲਾ ॥ prahalaad kotthe vich raakhiaa baar deea taalaa | Prahlaad was placed in a cell, and the door was locked. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਬਾਲਕੁ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਡਰਈ ਮੇਰੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥ nirbhau baalak mool na ddaree merai antar gur gopaalaa | The fearless child was not afraid at all. He said, “Within my being, is the Guru, the Lord of the World.” - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਰੀਕੀ ਕਰੈ ਅਨਹੋਦਾ ਨਾਉ ਧਰਾਇਆ ॥ keetaa hovai sareekee karai anahodaa naau dharaaeaa | The created being tried to compete with his Creator, but he assumed this name in vain. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋੁ ਆਇ ਪਹੁਤਾ ਜਨ ਸਿਉ ਵਾਦੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥੭॥ jo dhur likhiaa suo aae pahutaa jan siau vaad rachaaeaa |7| That which was predestined for him has come to pass; he started an argument with the Lord’s humble servant. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਸਿਉ ਗੁਰਜ ਉਠਾਈ ॥ pitaa prahalaad siau guraj utthaaee | The father raised the club to strike down Prahlaad, saying, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਹਾਂ ਤੁਮੑਾਰਾ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥ kahaan tumaaraa jagadees gusaaee | “Where is your God, the Lord of the Universe, now?” - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ॥ jagajeevan daataa ant sakhaaee | He replied, “The Life of the World, the Great Giver, is my Help and Support in the end. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੮॥ jeh dekhaa teh rahiaa samaaee |8| Wherever I look, I see Him permeating and prevailing.” ||8|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਥੰਮੑੁ ਉਪਾੜਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥ thamau upaarr har aap dikhaaeaa | Tearing down the pillars, the Lord Himself appeared. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਦੈਤੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਚਾਇਆ ॥ ahankaaree dait maar pachaaeaa | The egotistical demon was killed and destroyed. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭਗਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਆਨੰਦੁ ਵਜੀ ਵਧਾਈ ॥ bhagataa man aanand vajee vadhaaee | The minds of the devotees were filled with bliss, and congratulations poured in. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਪਨੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੯॥ apane sevak kau de vaddiaaee |9| He blessed His servant with glorious greatness. ||9|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਮੋਹੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥ jaman maranaa mohu upaaeaa | He created birth, death and attachment. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣਾ ਕਰਤੈ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ aavan jaanaa karatai likh paaeaa | The Creator has ordained coming and going in reincarnation. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਕੈ ਕਾਰਜਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥ prahalaad kai kaaraj har aap dikhaaeaa | For the sake of Prahlaad, the Lord Himself appeared. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭਗਤਾ ਕਾ ਬੋਲੁ ਆਗੈ ਆਇਆ ॥੧੦॥ bhagataa kaa bol aagai aaeaa |10| The word of the devotee came true. ||10|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੇਵ ਕੁਲੀ ਲਖਿਮੀ ਕਉ ਕਰਹਿ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ॥ dev kulee lakhimee kau kareh jaikaar | The gods proclaimed the victory of Lakshmi, and said, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਾਤਾ ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਕਾ ਰੂਪੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੁ ॥ maataa narasingh kaa roop nivaar | “O mother, make this form of the Man-lion disappear!” - Guru Amardas Ji
ਲਖਿਮੀ ਭਉ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ lakhimee bhau karai na saakai jaae | Lakshmi was afraid, and did not approach. - Guru Amardas Ji
