ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਹਮਰਾ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਪਾਸਾ ॥ dukh sukh hamaraa tis hee paasaa | I place my pain and pleasure before Him. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਨੋ ਸਭੁ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਪੜਦਾ ॥ raakh leeno sabh jan kaa parradaa | He covers the faults of His humble servant. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਦਾ ॥੪॥੧੯॥੩੨॥ naanak tis kee usatat karadaa |4|19|32| Nanak sings His Praises. ||4||19||32|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਰੋਵਨਹਾਰੀ ਰੋਜੁ ਬਨਾਇਆ ॥ rovanahaaree roj banaaeaa | The whiner whines every day. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਲਨ ਬਰਤਨ ਕਉ ਸਨਬੰਧੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਇਆ ॥ balan baratan kau sanabandh chit aaeaa | His attachment to his household and entanglements cloud his mind. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬੂਝਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਕਰੇ ਜੇ ਕੋਇ ॥ boojh bairaag kare je koe | If someone becomes detached through understanding, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਫਿਰਿ ਸੋਗੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ janam maran fir sog na hoe |1| he will not have to suffer in birth and death again. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕਾ ਸਭੁ ਧੰਧੁ ਪਸਾਰੁ ॥ bikhiaa kaa sabh dhandh pasaar | All of his conflicts are extensions of his corruption. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਵਿਰਲੈ ਕੀਨੋ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ viralai keeno naam adhaar |1| rahaau | How rare is that person who takes the Naam as his Support. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਰਹੀ ਬਿਆਪਿ ॥ tribidh maaeaa rahee biaap | The three-phased Maya infects all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਲਪਟਾਨੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੂਖ ਸੰਤਾਪ ॥ jo lapattaano tis dookh santaap | Whoever clings to it suffers pain and sorrow. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਧਿਆਏ ॥ sukh naahee bin naam dhiaae | There is no peace without meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਏ ॥੨॥ naam nidhaan baddabhaagee paae |2| By great good fortune, the treasure of the Naam is received. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸ੍ਵਾਂਗੀ ਸਿਉ ਜੋ ਮਨੁ ਰੀਝਾਵੈ ॥ svaangee siau jo man reejhaavai | One who loves the actor in his mind, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸ੍ਵਾਗਿ ਉਤਾਰਿਐ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਵੈ ॥ svaag utaariai fir pachhutaavai | later regrets it when the actor takes off his costume. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੇਘ ਕੀ ਛਾਇਆ ਜੈਸੇ ਬਰਤਨਹਾਰ ॥ megh kee chhaaeaa jaise baratanahaar | The shade from a cloud is transitory, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੈਸੋ ਪਰਪੰਚੁ ਮੋਹ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥੩॥ taiso parapanch moh bikaar |3| like the worldly paraphernalia of attachment and corruption. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਏਕ ਵਸਤੁ ਜੇ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ ek vasat je paavai koe | If someone is blessed with the singular substance, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੂਰਨ ਕਾਜੁ ਤਾਹੀ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ pooran kaaj taahee kaa hoe | then all of his tasks are accomplished to perfection. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ॥ gur prasaad jin paaeaa naam | One who obtains the Naam, by Guru’s Grace - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਇਆ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥੪॥੨੦॥੩੩॥ naanak aaeaa so paravaan |4|20|33|

ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਜੋਨੀ ਭਵਨਾ ॥ sant kee nindaa jonee bhavanaa | Slandering the Saints, the mortal wanders in reincarnation. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਰੋਗੀ ਕਰਨਾ ॥ sant kee nindaa rogee karanaa | Slandering the Saints, he is diseased. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੂਖ ਸਹਾਮ ॥ sant kee nindaa dookh sahaam | Slandering the Saints, he suffers in pain. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਡਾਨੁ ਦੈਤ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕਉ ਜਾਮ ॥੧॥ ddaan dait nindak kau jaam |1| The slanderer is punished by the Messenger of Death. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਜੋ ਬਾਦੁ ॥ santasang kareh jo baad | Those who argue and fight with the Saints - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਨ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਾਦੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ tin nindak naahee kichh saad |1| rahaau |

ਭਗਤ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕੰਧੁ ਛੇਦਾਵੈ ॥ bhagat kee nindaa kandh chhedaavai | Slandering the devotees, the wall of the mortal’s body is shattered. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਗਤ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਨਰਕੁ ਭੁੰਚਾਵੈ ॥ bhagat kee nindaa narak bhunchaavai | Slandering the devotees, he suffers in hell. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਗਤ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਗਰਭ ਮਹਿ ਗਲੈ ॥ bhagat kee nindaa garabh meh galai | Slandering the devotees, he rots in the womb. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਗਤ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਤੇ ਟਲੈ ॥੨॥ bhagat kee nindaa raaj te ttalai |2| Slandering the devotees, he loses his realm and power. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਕਤਹੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ nindak kee gat katahoo naeh | The slanderer finds no salvation at all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਪਿ ਬੀਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਹਿ ॥ aap beej aape hee khaeh | He eats only that which he himself has planted. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚੋਰ ਜਾਰ ਜੂਆਰ ਤੇ ਬੁਰਾ ॥ chor jaar jooaar te buraa | He is worse than a thief, a lecher, or a gambler. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਣਹੋਦਾ ਭਾਰੁ ਨਿੰਦਕਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਧਰਾ ॥੩॥ anahodaa bhaar nindak sir dharaa |3| The slanderer places an unbearable burden upon his head. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੇ ਭਗਤ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ॥ paarabraham ke bhagat niravair | The devotees of the Supreme Lord God are beyond hate and vengeance. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋ ਨਿਸਤਰੈ ਜੋ ਪੂਜੈ ਪੈਰ ॥ so nisatarai jo poojai pair | Whoever worships their feet is emancipated. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ਭੋਲਾਇਆ ॥ aad purakh nindak bholaaeaa | The Primal Lord God has deluded and confused the slanderer. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੨੧॥੩੪॥ naanak kirat na jaae mittaaeaa |4|21|34| O Nanak, the record of one’s past actions cannot be erased. ||4||21||34|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਬੇਦ ਅਰੁ ਨਾਦ ॥ naam hamaarai bed ar naad | The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is for me the Vedas and the Sound-current of the Naad. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਪੂਰੇ ਕਾਜ ॥ naam hamaarai poore kaaj | Through the Naam, my tasks are perfectly accomplished. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਪੂਜਾ ਦੇਵ ॥ naam hamaarai poojaa dev | The Naam is my worship of deities. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ॥੧॥ naam hamaarai gur kee sev |1| The Naam is my service to the Guru. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥ gur poorai drirrio har naam | The Perfect Guru has implanted the Naam within me. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਤਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ sabh te aootam har har kaam |1| rahaau | The highest task of all is the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਮਜਨ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥ naam hamaarai majan isanaan | The Naam is my cleansing bath and purification. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਦਾਨੁ ॥ naam hamaarai pooran daan | The Naam is my perfect donation of charity. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਤੇ ਸਗਲ ਪਵੀਤ ॥ naam lait te sagal paveet | Those who repeat the Naam are totally purified. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ਮੀਤ ॥੨॥ naam japat mere bhaaee meet |2| Those who chant the Naam are my friends and Siblings of Destiny. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਸਉਣ ਸੰਜੋਗ ॥ naam hamaarai saun sanjog | The Naam is my auspicious omen and good fortune. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਸੁਭੋਗ ॥ naam hamaarai tripat subhog | The Naam is the sublime food which satisfies me. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਸਗਲ ਆਚਾਰ ॥ naam hamaarai sagal aachaar | The Naam is my good conduct. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ॥੩॥ naam hamaarai niramal biauhaar |3| The Naam is my immaculate occupation. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ॥ jaa kai man vasiaa prabh ek | All those humble beings whose minds are filled with the One God - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਗਲ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਟੇਕ ॥ sagal janaa kee har har ttek | have the Support of the Lord, Har, Har. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥ man tan naanak har gun gaau | O Nanak, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord with your mind and body. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
