ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ik oankaar satigur prasaad | One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru: - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਗਲੀ ਥੀਤਿ ਪਾਸਿ ਡਾਰਿ ਰਾਖੀ ॥ sagalee theet paas ddaar raakhee | Setting aside all other days, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਸਟਮ ਥੀਤਿ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਜਨਮਾ ਸੀ ॥੧॥ asattam theet govind janamaa see |1| It is said that the Lord was born on the eighth lunar day. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਨਰ ਕਰਤ ਕਚਰਾਇਣ ॥ bharam bhoole nar karat kacharaaein | Deluded and confused by doubt, the mortal practices falsehood. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਤੇ ਰਹਤ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ janam maran te rehat naaraaein |1| rahaau | The Lord is beyond birth and death. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਿ ਪੰਜੀਰੁ ਖਵਾਇਓ ਚੋਰ ॥ kar panjeer khavaaeo chor | You prepare sweet treats and feed them to your stone god. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਓਹੁ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਮਰੈ ਰੇ ਸਾਕਤ ਢੋਰ ॥੨॥ ohu janam na marai re saakat dtor |2| God is not born, and He does not die, you foolish, faithless cynic! ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਗਲ ਪਰਾਧ ਦੇਹਿ ਲੋਰੋਨੀ ॥ sagal paraadh dehi loronee | You sing lullabyes to your stone god - this is the source of all your mistakes. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋ ਮੁਖੁ ਜਲਉ ਜਿਤੁ ਕਹਹਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਜੋਨੀ ॥੩॥ so mukh jlau jit kaheh tthaakur jonee |3| Let that mouth be burnt, which says that our Lord and Master is subject to birth. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ janam na marai na aavai na jaae | He is not born, and He does not die; He does not come and go in reincarnation. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੧॥ naanak kaa prabh rahio samaae |4|1| The God of Nanak is pervading and permeating everywhere. ||4||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਊਠਤ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਬੈਠਤ ਸੁਖੀਆ ॥ aootthat sukheea baitthat sukheea | Standing up, I am at peace; sitting down, I am at peace. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਉ ਨਹੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਜਾਂ ਐਸੇ ਬੁਝੀਆ ॥੧॥ bhau nahee laagai jaan aise bujheea |1| I feel no fear, because this is what I understand. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਾਖਾ ਏਕੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥ raakhaa ek hamaaraa suaamee | The One Lord, my Lord and Master, is my Protector. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ sagal ghattaa kaa antarajaamee |1| rahaau | He is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of Hearts. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋਇ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ਜਾਗਿ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ॥ soe achintaa jaag achintaa | I sleep without worry, and I awake without worry. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਹਾ ਕਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤੂੰ ਵਰਤੰਤਾ ॥੨॥ jahaa kahaan prabh toon varatantaa |2| You, O God, are pervading everywhere. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਘਰਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ ghar sukh vasiaa baahar sukh paaeaa | I dwell in peace in my home, and I am at peace outside. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥੩॥੨॥ kahu naanak gur mantru drirraaeaa |3|2| Says Nanak, the Guru has implanted His Mantra within me. ||3||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਵਰਤ ਨ ਰਹਉ ਨ ਮਹ ਰਮਦਾਨਾ ॥ varat na rhau na meh ramadaanaa | I do not keep fasts, nor do I observe the month of Ramadaan. - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਤਿਸੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਜੋ ਰਖੈ ਨਿਦਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ tis sevee jo rakhai nidaanaa |1| I serve only the One, who will protect me in the end. ||1|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਏਕੁ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਅਲਹੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥ ek gusaaee alahu meraa | The One Lord, the Lord of the World, is my God Allah. - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਹਿੰਦੂ ਤੁਰਕ ਦੁਹਾਂ ਨੇਬੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ hindoo turak duhaan neberaa |1| rahaau | He adminsters justice to both Hindus and Muslims. ||1||Pause|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਹਜ ਕਾਬੈ ਜਾਉ ਨ ਤੀਰਥ ਪੂਜਾ ॥ haj kaabai jaau na teerath poojaa | I do not make pilgrimages to Mecca, nor do I worship at Hindu sacred shrines. - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਏਕੋ ਸੇਵੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੨॥ eko sevee avar na doojaa |2| I serve the One Lord, and not any other. ||2|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਉ ਨ ਨਿਵਾਜ ਗੁਜਾਰਉ ॥ poojaa krau na nivaaj gujaarau | I do not perform Hindu worship services, nor do I offer the Muslim prayers. - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਏਕ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਲੇ ਰਿਦੈ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਉ ॥੩॥ ek nirankaar le ridai namasakaarau |3| I have taken the One Formless Lord into my heart; I humbly worship Him there. ||3|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਨਾ ਹਮ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਨ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ॥ naa ham hindoo na musalamaan | I am not a Hindu, nor am I a Muslim. - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਅਲਹ ਰਾਮ ਕੇ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਪਰਾਨ ॥੪॥ alah raam ke pindd paraan |4| My body and breath of life belong to Allah - to Raam - the God of both. ||4|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਇਹੁ ਕੀਆ ਵਖਾਨਾ ॥ kahu kabeer ihu keea vakhaanaa | Says Kabeer, this is what I say: - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪੀਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਖੁਦਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥੫॥੩॥ gur peer mil khud khasam pachhaanaa |5|3| meeting with the Guru, my Spiritual Teacher, I realize God, my Lord and Master. ||5||3|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji

ਦਸ ਮਿਰਗੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਬੰਧਿ ਆਨੀ ॥ das miragee sahaje bandh aanee | I easily tied up the deer - the ten sensory organs. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਾਂਚ ਮਿਰਗ ਬੇਧੇ ਸਿਵ ਕੀ ਬਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ paanch mirag bedhe siv kee baanee |1| I shot five of the desires with the Word of the Lord’s Bani. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਲੇ ਚੜਿਓ ਸਿਕਾਰ ॥ santasang le charrio sikaar | I go out hunting with the Saints, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਪਕਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੋਰ ਹਥੀਆਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ mrig pakare bin ghor hatheeaar |1| rahaau | and we capture the deer without horses or weapons. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਖੇਰ ਬਿਰਤਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਆਇਓ ਧਾਇ ॥ aakher birat baahar aaeo dhaae | My mind used to run around outside hunting. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਹੇਰਾ ਪਾਇਓ ਘਰ ਕੈ ਗਾਂਇ ॥੨॥ aheraa paaeo ghar kai gaane |2| But now, I have found the game within the home of my body-village. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਪਕਰੇ ਘਰਿ ਆਣੇ ਹਾਟਿ ॥ mrig pakare ghar aane haatt | I caught the deer and brought them home. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚੁਖ ਚੁਖ ਲੇ ਗਏ ਬਾਂਢੇ ਬਾਟਿ ॥੩॥ chukh chukh le ge baandte baatt |3| Dividing them up, I shared them, bit by bit. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਏਹੁ ਅਹੇਰਾ ਕੀਨੋ ਦਾਨੁ ॥ ehu aheraa keeno daan | God has given this gift. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੪॥੪॥ naanak kai ghar keval naam |4|4| Nanak’s home is filled with the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਜੇ ਸਉ ਲੋਚਿ ਲੋਚਿ ਖਾਵਾਇਆ ॥ je sau loch loch khaavaaeaa | Even though he may be fed with hundreds of longings and yearnings, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਕਤ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥ saakat har har cheet na aaeaa |1| still the faithless cynic does not remember the Lord, Har, Har. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਲੇਹੁ ਮਤੇ ॥ sant janaa kee lehu mate | Take in the teachings of the humble Saints. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਪਰਮ ਗਤੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ saadhasang paavahu param gate |1| rahaau | In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall obtain the supreme status. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਾਥਰ ਕਉ ਬਹੁ ਨੀਰੁ ਪਵਾਇਆ ॥ paathar kau bahu neer pavaaeaa | Stones may be kept under water for a long time. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਹ ਭੀਗੈ ਅਧਿਕ ਸੂਕਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ neh bheegai adhik sookaaeaa |2| Even so, they do not absorb the water; they remain hard and dry. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
