ਜਿਨ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸੋਹੇ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਏ ॥੩॥ jin man vasiaa se jan sohe hiradai naam vasaae |3| Those whose minds are filled with the Naam are beautiful; they enshrine the Naam within their hearts. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਰਲੀਆ ਮਾਣੈ ॥ ghar dar mehal satiguroo dikhaaeaa rang siau raleea maanai | The True Guru has revealed to me the Lord’s Home and His Court, and the Mansion of His Presence. I joyfully enjoy His Love. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹੈ ਸੁ ਭਲਾ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੬॥ jo kichh kahai su bhalaa kar maanai naanak naam vakhaanai |4|6|16| Whatever He says, I accept as good; Nanak chants the Naam. ||4||6||16|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨਸਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ਲੈ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥ manasaa maneh samaae lai gurasabadee veechaar | The desires of the mind are absorbed in the mind, contemplating the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਵੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥੧॥ gur poore te sojhee pavai fir marai na vaaro vaar |1| Understanding is obtained from the Perfect Guru, and then the mortal does not die over and over again. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥ man mere raam naam aadhaar | My mind takes the Support of the Lord’s Name. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਭ ਇਛ ਪੁਜਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ gur parasaad param pad paaeaa sabh ichh pujaavanahaar |1| rahaau | By Guru’s Grace, I have obtained the supreme status; the Lord is the Fulfiller of all desires. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ sabh meh eko rav rahiaa gur bin boojh na paae | The One Lord is permeating and pervading amongst all; without the Guru, this understanding is not obtained. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੨॥ guramukh pragatt hoaa meraa har prabh anadin har gun gaae |2| My Lord God has been revealed to me, and I have become Gurmukh. Night and day, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਹੋਰ ਥੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਹਿ ॥ sukhadaataa har ek hai hor thai sukh na paeh | The One Lord is the Giver of peace; peace is not found anywhere else. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੇ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਏ ਪਛੁਤਾਹਿ ॥੩॥ satigur jinee na seviaa daataa se ant ge pachhutaeh |3| Those who do not serve the Giver, the True Guru, depart regretfully in the end. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਧਾਇ ॥ satigur sev sadaa sukh paaeaa fir dukh na laagai dhaae | Serving the True Guru, lasting peace is obtained, and the mortal does not suffer in pain any longer. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਈ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੭॥ naanak har bhagat paraapat hoee jotee jot samaae |4|7|17| Nanak has been blessed with devotional worship of the Lord; his light has merged into the Light. ||4||7||17|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਜਗਤੁ ਬਉਰਾਨਾ ਭੂਲਾ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਈ ॥ baajh guroo jagat bauraanaa bhoolaa chottaa khaaee | Without the Guru, the world is insane; confused and deluded, it is beaten, and it suffers. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਦਰ ਕੀ ਖਬਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ mar mar jamai sadaa dukh paae dar kee khabar na paaee |1| It dies and dies again, and is reborn, always in pain, but it is unaware of the Lord’s Gate. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾ ॥ mere man sadaa rahahu satigur kee saranaa | O my mind, remain always in the Protection of the True Guru’s Sanctuary. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਸਦ ਲਾਗਾ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੇ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰਣਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ hiradai har naam meetthaa sad laagaa gurasabade bhavajal taranaa |1| rahaau | Those people, to whose hearts the Lord’s Name seems sweet, are carried across the terrifying world-ocean by the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਭੇਖ ਕਰੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਚਿਤੁ ਡੋਲੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥ bhekh karai bahut chit ddolai antar kaam krodh ahankaar | The mortal wears various religious robes, but his consciousness is unsteady; deep within, he is filled with sexual desire, anger and egotism. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਿਸਾ ਭੂਖ ਅਤਿ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਭਉਕਤ ਫਿਰੈ ਦਰ ਬਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ antar tisaa bhookh at bahutee bhaukat firai dar baar |2| Deep within is the great thirst and immense hunger; he wanders from door to door. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੀਵਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦੁਆਰਿ ॥ gur kai sabad mareh fir jeeveh tin kau mukat duaar | Those who die in the Word of the Guru’s Shabad are reborn; they find the door of liberation. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੩॥ antar saant sadaa sukh hovai har raakhiaa ur dhaar |3| With constant peace and tranquility deep within, they enshrine the Lord within their hearts. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜਿਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਚਲਾਵੈ ਕਰਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ jiau tis bhaavai tivai chalaavai karanaa kichhoo na jaaee | As it pleases Him, He inspires us to act. Nothing else can be done. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਮੑਾਲੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੪॥੮॥੧੮॥ naanak guramukh sabad samaale raam naam vaddiaaee |4|8|18| O Nanak, the Gurmukh contemplates the Word of the Shabad, and is blessed with the glorious greatness of the Lord’s Name. ||4||8||18|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਖੁਆਇਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਖਟੇ ਦੁਖ ਖਾਇ ॥ haumai maaeaa mohi khuaaeaa dukh khatte dukh khaae | Lost in egotism, Maya and attachment, the mortal earns pain, and eats pain. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭ ਹਲਕੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਭਾਰੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਭਰਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ antar lobh halak dukh bhaaree bin bibek bharamaae |1| The great disease, the rabid disease of greed, is deep within him; he wanders around indiscriminately. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਸੈਸਾਰਿ ॥ manamukh dhrig jeevan saisaar | The life of the self-willed manmukh in this world is cursed. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਨਹੀ ਚੇਤਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ raam naam supanai nahee chetiaa har siau kade na laagai piaar |1| rahaau | He does not remember the Lord’s Name, even in his dreams. He is never in love with the Lord’s Name. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਪਸੂਆ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੈ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਕੂੜੋ ਹੋਇ ॥ pasooaa karam karai nahee boojhai koorr kamaavai koorro hoe | He acts like a beast, and does not understand anything. Practicing falsehood, he becomes false. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਉਲਟੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਖੋਜਿ ਲਹੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਇ ॥੨॥ satigur milai ta ulattee hovai khoj lahai jan koe |2| But when the mortal meets the True Guru, his way of looking at the world changes. How rare are those humble beings who seek and find the Lord. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਦ ਵਸਿਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥ har har naam ridai sad vasiaa paaeaa gunee nidhaan | That person, whose heart is forever filled with the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, obtains the Lord, the Treasure of Virtue. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਚੂਕਾ ਮਨ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥੩॥ gur parasaadee pooraa paaeaa chookaa man abhimaan |3| By Guru’s Grace, he finds the Perfect Lord; the egotistical pride of his mind is eradicated. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਏ ॥ aape karataa kare karaae aape maarag paae | The Creator Himself acts, and causes all to act. He Himself places us on the path. - Guru Amardas Ji
