ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਮਨ ਰੁਚੈ ॥ har ke naam kee man ruchai | My mind is filled with yearning for the Name of the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੋਟਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਅਨੰਦ ਪੂਰਨ ਜਲਤ ਛਾਤੀ ਬੁਝੈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ kott saant anand pooran jalat chhaatee bujhai | rahaau | I am totally filled with tranquility and bliss; the burning desire within has been quenched. ||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਚਲਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਰੇ ਮੁਚੈ ॥ sant maarag chalat praanee patit udhare muchai | Walking on the path of the Saints, millions of mortal sinners have been saved. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰੇਨੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਲਗੀ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਤੀਰਥ ਸੁਚੈ ॥੧॥ ren jan kee lagee masatak anik teerath suchai |1| One who applies the dust of the feet of the humble to his forehead, is purified, as if he has bathed at countless sacred shrines. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਧਿਆਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਹਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੁਝੈ ॥ charan kamal dhiaan bheetar ghatt ghatteh suaamee sujhai | Meditating on His Lotus Feet deep within, one realizes the Lord and Master in each and every heart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਰਨਿ ਦੇਵ ਅਪਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਜਮੁ ਨਹੀ ਲੁਝੈ ॥੨॥੭॥੧੫॥ saran dev apaar naanak bahur jam nahee lujhai |2|7|15| In the Sanctuary of the Divine, Infinite Lord, Nanak shall never again be tortured by the Messenger of Death. ||2||7||15|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਮੈ ਸੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥ poor rahiaa sarabatr mai so purakh bidhaataa | He is All-pervading amongst all, the Architect of Destiny. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਆ ਸੰਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥ maarag prabh kaa har keea santan sang jaataa | The Lord God has created His Path, which is known in the Society of the Saints. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿਆ ॥ santan sang jaataa purakh bidhaataa ghatt ghatt nadar nihaaliaa | The Creator Lord, the Architect of Destiny, is known in the Society of the Saints; You are seen in each and every heart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਸਰਨੀ ਆਵੈ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵੈ ਤਿਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਭੰਨੈ ਘਾਲਿਆ ॥ jo saranee aavai sarab sukh paavai til nahee bhanai ghaaliaa | One who comes to His Sanctuary, finds absolute peace; not even a bit of his work goes unnoticed. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਗਾਏ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਭਾਏ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਮਹਾ ਰਸ ਮਾਤਾ ॥ har gun nidh gaae sehaj subhaae prem mahaa ras maataa | One who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, the Treasure of Virtue, is easily, naturally intoxicated with the supreme, sublime essence of divine love. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਤੂ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥੧॥ naanak daas teree saranaaee too pooran purakh bidhaataa |1| Slave Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary; You are the Perfect Creator Lord, the Architect of Destiny. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਨ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਸੇ ਆਨ ਕਤ ਜਾਹੀ ॥ har prem bhagat jan bedhiaa se aan kat jaahee | The Lord’s humble servant is pierced through with loving devotion to Him; where else can he go? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੀਨੁ ਬਿਛੋਹਾ ਨਾ ਸਹੈ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਰਿ ਪਾਹੀ ॥ meen bichhohaa naa sahai jal bin mar paahee | The fish cannot endure separation, and without water, it will die. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਰਹੀਐ ਦੂਖ ਕਿਨਿ ਸਹੀਐ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਬੂੰਦ ਪਿਆਸਿਆ ॥ har bin kiau raheeai dookh kin saheeai chaatrik boond piaasiaa | Without the Lord, how can I survive? How can I endure the pain? I am like the rainbird, thirsty for the rain-drop. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਬ ਰੈਨਿ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਚਕਵੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੂਰਜ ਕਿਰਣਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਆ ॥ kab rain bihaavai chakavee sukh paavai sooraj kiran pragaasiaa | “When will the night pass?,” asks the chakvi bird. “I shall find peace only when the rays of the sun shine on me.” - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਿ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਸਭਾਗਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਹੀ ॥ har daras man laagaa dinas sabhaagaa anadin har gun gaahee | My mind is attached to the Blessed Vision of the Lord. Blessed are the nights and days, when I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਕਤ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਟਿਕਾਹੀ ॥੨॥ naanak daas kahai benantee kat har bin praan ttikaahee |2| Slave Nanak utters this prayer; without the Lord, how can the breath of life continue to flow through me? ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਸ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਿਉ ਦੇਹੁਰੀ ਕਤ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ saas binaa jiau dehuree kat sobhaa paavai | Without the breath, how can the body obtain glory and fame? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਰਸ ਬਿਹੂਨਾ ਸਾਧ ਜਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਟਿਕਣੁ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥ daras bihoonaa saadh jan khin ttikan na aavai | Without the Blessed Vision of the Lord’s Darshan, the humble, holy person does not find peace, even for an instant. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਜੋ ਰਹਣਾ ਨਰਕੁ ਸੋ ਸਹਣਾ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ॥ har bin jo rahanaa narak so sahanaa charan kamal man bedhiaa | Those who are without the Lord suffer in hell; my mind is pierced through with the Lord’s Feet. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿਕ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਕਤਹੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਨਿਖੇਧਿਆ ॥ har rasik bairaagee naam liv laagee katahu na jaae nikhedhiaa | The Lord is both sensual and unattached; lovingly attune yourself to the Naam, the Name of the Lord. No one can ever deny Him. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਲਣਾ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਰਹਣਾ ਸੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਅੰਕਿ ਨ ਮਾਵੈ ॥ har siau jaae milanaa saadhasang rahanaa so sukh ank na maavai | Go and meet with the Lord, and dwell in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; no one can contain that peace within his being. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹੋਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੩॥ hohu kripaal naanak ke suaamee har charanah sang samaavai |3| Please be kind to me, O Lord and Master of Nanak, that I may merge in You. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਧਾਰੇ ॥ khojat khojat prabh mile har karunaa dhaare | Searching and searching, I have met with my Lord God, who has showered me with His Mercy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਿਰਗੁਣੁ ਨੀਚੁ ਅਨਾਥੁ ਮੈ ਨਹੀ ਦੋਖ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥ niragun neech anaath mai nahee dokh beechaare | I am unworthy, a lowly orphan, but He does not even consider my faults. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਹੀ ਦੋਖ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਵਨ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਬਖਾਨਿਆ ॥ nahee dokh beechaare pooran sukh saare paavan birad bakhaaniaa | He does not consider my faults; He has blessed me with Perfect Peace. It is said that it is His Way to purify us. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਸੁਨਿ ਅੰਚਲੋੁ ਗਹਿਆ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਪੂਰ ਸਮਾਨਿਆ ॥ bhagat vachhal sun anchaluo gahiaa ghatt ghatt poor samaaniaa | Hearing that He is the Love of His devotees, I have grasped the hem of His robe. He is totally permeating each and every heart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੋੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਭਾਇਆ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੁਖ ਹਾਰੇ ॥ sukh saagaruo paaeaa sehaj subhaaeaa janam maran dukh haare | I have found the Lord, the Ocean of Peace, with intuitive ease; the pains of birth and death are gone. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਅਪਨੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਉਰਿ ਹਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੧॥ kar geh leene naanak daas apane raam naam ur haare |4|1| Taking him by the hand, the Lord has saved Nanak, His slave; He has woven the garland of His Name into his heart. ||4||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
