ਗੁਨ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਉਚਾਰੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਟੇਵ ਏਹ ਪਰੀ ॥੧॥ gun gopaal uchaar rasanaa ttev eeh paree |1| My tongue chants the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the World; this has become part of my very nature. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਹਾ ਨਾਦ ਕੁਰੰਕ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਬੇਧਿ ਤੀਖਨ ਸਰੀ ॥ mahaa naad kurank mohio bedh teekhan saree | The deer is fascinated by the sound of the bell, and so it is shot with the sharp arrow. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਰਸਾਲ ਨਾਨਕ ਗਾਠਿ ਬਾਧਿ ਧਰੀ ॥੨॥੧॥੯॥ prabh charan kamal rasaal naanak gaatth baadh dharee |2|1|9| God’s Lotus Feet are the Source of Nectar; O Nanak, I am tied to them by a knot. ||2||1||9|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਭਰਮ ਭੀਤਿ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਗਹਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਅਪਨੀ ਓਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ bharam bheet nivaar tthaakur geh lehu apanee or |1| rahaau | Shatter the wall of doubt, O my Lord and Master; please grab hold of me, and lift me up towards Yourself. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਧਿਕ ਗਰਤ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਗਰ ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਚਾਰਹੁ ਧੋਰ ॥ adhik garat sansaar saagar kar deaa chaarahu dhor | The world-ocean is so vast and deep; please be kind, lift me up and place me on the shore. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਉਧਰਤੇ ਲੈ ਮੋਰ ॥੧॥ santasang har charan bohith udharate lai mor |1| In the Society of the Saints, the Lord’s Feet are the boat to carry us across. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗਰਭ ਕੁੰਟ ਮਹਿ ਜਿਨਹਿ ਧਾਰਿਓ ਨਹੀ ਬਿਖੈ ਬਨ ਮਹਿ ਹੋਰ ॥ garabh kuntt meh jineh dhaario nahee bikhai ban meh hor | The One who placed you in the womb of your mother’s belly - no one else shall save you in the wilderness of corruption. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਸਕਤ ਸਰਨ ਸਮਰਥ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਨ ਨਹੀ ਨਿਹੋਰ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੦॥ har sakat saran samarath naanak aan nahee nihor |2|2|10| The power of the Lord’s Sanctuary is all-powerful; Nanak does not rely on any other. ||2||2||10|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਤਿਆਗਿ ਚਲਨਾ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਪਤ ਕਾਲੁ ਸਿਰ ਪਰਿ ਜਾਨੁ ॥ tiaag chalanaa sagal sanpat kaal sir par jaan | You shall have to leave behind all your riches when you depart. Death is hanging over your head - know this well! - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਿਥਨ ਮੋਹ ਦੁਰੰਤ ਆਸਾ ਝੂਠੁ ਸਰਪਰ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ mithan moh durant aasaa jhootth sarapar maan |1| Transitory attachments and evil hopes are false. Surely you must believe this! ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਧਾਰਹੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥ sat purakh akaal moorat ridai dhaarahu dhiaan | Within your heart, focus your meditation on the True Primal Being, Akaal Moorat, the Undying Form. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਲਾਭੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਸਤੁ ਇਹ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥੨॥੩॥੧੧॥ naam nidhaan laabh naanak basat ih paravaan |2|3|11| Only this profitable merchandise, the treasure of the Naam, O Nanak, shall be accepted. ||2||3||11|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਨ ਕਛੁ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ kal kales na kachh biaapai santasang biauhaar | rahaau | Suffering and conflict do not afflict me; I deal only with the Society of the Saints. ||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਆਪਿ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਨਹ ਉਪਜਤਉ ਬੇਕਾਰੁ ॥ kar anugrahu aap raakhio neh upajtau bekaar | Showering His Mercy on me, the Lord Himself has saved me, and no evil thoughts arise within me. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਦਹਤ ਨਹ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ jis paraapat hoe simarai tis dehat neh sansaar |1| Whoever receives this Grace, contemplates Him in meditation; he is not burned by the fire of the world. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੁਖ ਮੰਗਲ ਆਨੰਦ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਚਰਨ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ sukh mangal aanand har har prabh charan amrit saar | Peace, joy and bliss come from the Lord, Har, Har. God’s Feet are sublime and excellent. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਸਰਨਾਗਤੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤਨਾ ਕੀ ਛਾਰੁ ॥੨॥੪॥੧੨॥ naanak daas saranaagatee tere santanaa kee chhaar |2|4|12| Slave Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary; he is the dust of the feet of Your Saints. ||2||4||12|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਜੀਵਨ ਰੂਪ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਹਿ ਤਿਹ ਕਤ ਜੀਵਨ ਹੋਤ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ jeevan roop bisaar jeeveh tih kat jeevan hot | rahaau | Those who forget the Embodiment of Life - what is the point of their lives? ||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਖਾਤ ਪੀਤ ਅਨੇਕ ਬਿੰਜਨ ਜੈਸੇ ਭਾਰ ਬਾਹਕ ਖੋਤ ॥ khaat peet anek binjan jaise bhaar baahak khot | One who eats and drinks countless delicacies is no more than a donkey, a beast of burden. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਮਹਾ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੈਸੇ ਬਿਰਖ ਜੰਤੀ ਜੋਤ ॥੧॥ aatth pehar mahaa sram paaeaa jaise birakh jantee jot |1| Twenty-four hours a day, he endures terrible suffering, like the bull, chained to the oil-press. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਜਿ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ਜਿ ਆਨ ਲਾਗੇ ਸੇ ਬਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰੀ ਰੋਤ ॥ taj guopaal ji aan laage se bahu prakaaree rot | Forsaking the Life of the World, and attached to another, they weep and wail in so many ways. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰ ਜੋਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਨੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਖਉ ਕੰਠਿ ਪਰੋਤ ॥੨॥੫॥੧੩॥ kar jor naanak daan maagai har rkhau kantth parot |2|5|13| With his palms pressed together, Nanak begs for this gift; O Lord, please keep me strung around Your Neck. ||2||5||13|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਗੁਣਾ ਅਚੁਤ ਸਦਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਨਹ ਦੋਖ ਬਿਆਪਹਿ ਕਲੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ gunaa achut sadaa pooran neh dokh biaapeh kalee | rahaau | Hearing of the Imperishable, Eternally Perfect Lord, pain does not afflict me, even in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. ||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਿ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਰਬ ਪੂਰਨ ਈਤ ਊਤ ਨ ਹਲੀ ॥ gur bachan kaaraj sarab pooran eet aoot na halee | Through the Guru’s Word, all affairs are resolved, and the mind is not tossed about here and there. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਏਕ ਅਨਿਕ ਸਰਬਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਬਿਖੈ ਅਗਨਿ ਨ ਜਲੀ ॥੧॥ prabh ek anik sarabat pooran bikhai agan na jalee |1| Whoever sees the One God to be pervading in all the many beings, does not burn in the fire of corruption. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗਹਿ ਭੁਜਾ ਲੀਨੋ ਦਾਸੁ ਅਪਨੋ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤੀ ਰਲੀ ॥ geh bhujaa leeno daas apano jot jotee ralee | The Lord grasps His slave by the arm, and his light merges into the Light. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
