ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਤੀਣੇ ਤਾਰਾ ਚੜਿਆ ਲੰਮਾ ॥੧॥ naanak haumai maar pateene taaraa charriaa lamaa |1| O Nanak, killing his ego, he is satisfied; the meteor has shot across the sky. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਗਿ ਰਹੇ ਚੂਕੀ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ guramukh jaag rahe chookee abhimaanee raam | The Gurmukhs remain awake and aware; their egotistical pride is eradicated. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭੋਰੁ ਭਇਆ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਨੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ anadin bhor bheaa saach samaanee raam | Night and day, it is dawn for them; they merge in the True Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਨੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਨੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਬਤੁ ਜਾਗੇ ॥ saach samaanee guramukh man bhaanee guramukh saabat jaage | The Gurmukhs are merged in the True Lord; they are pleasing to His Mind. The Gurmukhs are intact, safe and sound, awake and awake. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੇ ॥ saach naam amrit gur deea har charanee liv laage | The Guru blesses them with the Ambrosial Nectar of the True Name; they are lovingly attuned to the Lord’s Feet. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਗਟੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣੀ ॥ pragattee jot jot meh jaataa manamukh bharam bhulaanee | The Divine Light is revealed, and in that Light, they achieve realization; the self-willed manmukhs wander in doubt and confusion. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਭੋਰੁ ਭਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਜਾਗਤ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ ॥੨॥ naanak bhor bheaa man maaniaa jaagat rain vihaanee |2| O Nanak, when the dawn breaks, their minds are satisfied; they pass their life-night awake and aware. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅਉਗਣ ਵੀਸਰਿਆ ਗੁਣੀ ਘਰੁ ਕੀਆ ਰਾਮ ॥ aaugan veesariaa gunee ghar keea raam | Forgetting faults and demerits, virtue and merit enter one’s home. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਏਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਬੀਆ ਰਾਮ ॥ eko rav rahiaa avar na beea raam | The One Lord is permeating everywhere; there is no other at all. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸੋਈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥ rav rahiaa soee avar na koee man hee te man maaniaa | He is All-pervading; there is no other. The mind comes to believe, from the mind. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਲ ਥਲ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਘਟੁ ਘਟੁ ਥਾਪਿਆ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥ jin jal thal tribhavan ghatt ghatt thaapiaa so prabh guramukh jaaniaa | The One who established the water, the land, the three worlds, each and every heart - that God is known by the Gurmukh. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਮੇਟਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ karan kaaran samarath apaaraa tribidh mett samaaee | The Infinite, All-powerful Lord is the Creator, the Cause of causes; erasing the three-phased Maya, we merge in Him. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਵਗਣ ਗੁਣਹ ਸਮਾਣੇ ਐਸੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥ naanak avagan gunah samaane aisee guramat paaee |3| O Nanak, then, demerits are dissolved by merits; such are the Guru’s Teachings. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣ ਰਹੇ ਚੂਕਾ ਭੋਲਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ aavan jaan rahe chookaa bholaa raam | My coming and going in reincarnation have ended; doubt and hesitation are gone. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਚੋਲਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ haumai maar mile saachaa cholaa raam | Conquering my ego, I have met the True Lord, and now I wear the robe of Truth. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਖੋਈ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਈ ਚੂਕੇ ਸੋਗ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥ haumai gur khoee paragatt hoee chooke sog santaapai | The Guru has rid me of egotism; my sorrow and suffering are dispelled. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜੋਤੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਆਪੈ ॥ jotee andar jot samaanee aap pachhaataa aapai | My might merges into the Light; I realize and understand my own self. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਘਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਤੀਣੀ ਸਾਹੁਰੜੈ ਪਿਰ ਭਾਣੀ ॥ peeearrai ghar sabad pateenee saahurarrai pir bhaanee | In this world of my parents’ home, I am satisfied with the Shabad; at my in-laws’ home, in the world beyond, I shall be pleasing to my Husband Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਚੂਕੀ ਕਾਣਿ ਲੋਕਾਣੀ ॥੪॥੩॥ naanak satigur mel milaaee chookee kaan lokaanee |4|3| O Nanak, the True Guru has united me in His Union; my dependence on people has ended. ||4||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਭੋਲਾਵੜੈ ਭੁਲੀ ਭੁਲਿ ਭੁਲਿ ਪਛੋਤਾਣੀ ॥ bholaavarrai bhulee bhul bhul pachhotaanee | Deluded by doubt, misled and confused, the soul-bride later regrets and repents. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪਿਰਿ ਛੋਡਿਅੜੀ ਸੁਤੀ ਪਿਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ pir chhoddiarree sutee pir kee saar na jaanee | Abandoning her Husband Lord, she sleeps, and does not appreciate His Worth. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪਿਰਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਸੁਤੀ ਅਵਗਣਿ ਮੁਤੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਧਨ ਵਿਧਣ ਰਾਤੇ ॥ pir chhoddee sutee avagan mutee tis dhan vidhan raate | Leaving her Husband Lord, she sleeps, and is plundered by her faults and demerits. The night is so painful for this bride. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਵਿਗੁਤੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਲਗੀ ਤਾਤੇ ॥ kaam krodh ahankaar vigutee haumai lagee taate | Sexual desire, anger and egotism destroy her. She burns in egotism. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਉਡਰਿ ਹੰਸੁ ਚਲਿਆ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ਭਸਮੈ ਭਸਮ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥ auddar hans chaliaa furamaaeaa bhasamai bhasam samaanee | When the soul-swan flies away, by the Command of the Lord, her dust mingles with dust. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣੀ ਭੁਲਿ ਭੁਲਿ ਪਛੋਤਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ naanak sache naam vihoonee bhul bhul pachhotaanee |1| O Nanak, without the True Name, she is confused and deluded, and so she regrets and repents. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੁਣਿ ਨਾਹ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਇਕ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਮੇਰੀ ॥ sun naah piaare ik benantee meree | Please listen, O my Beloved Husband Lord, to my one prayer. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤੂ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਿਅੜਾ ਹਉ ਰੁਲਿ ਭਸਮੈ ਢੇਰੀ ॥ too nij ghar vasiarraa hau rul bhasamai dteree | You dwell in the home of the self deep within, while I roll around like a dust-ball. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਅਪਨੇ ਨਾਹੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਚਾਹੈ ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਿਆ ਕੀਜੈ ॥ bin apane naahai koe na chaahai kiaa kaheeai kiaa keejai | Without my Husband Lord, no one likes me at all; what can I say or do now? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸਨ ਰਸੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥ amrit naam rasan ras rasanaa gurasabadee ras peejai | The Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the sweetest nectar of nectars. Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, with my tongue, I drink in this nectar. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਸਾਥੀ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਘਨੇਰੀ ॥ vin naavai ko sang na saathee aavai jaae ghaneree | Without the Name, no one has any friend or companion; millions come and go in reincarnation. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਲਾਹਾ ਲੈ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਚੁ ਮਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ॥੨॥ naanak laahaa lai ghar jaaeeai saachee sach mat teree |2| Nanak: the profit is earned and the soul returns home. True, true are Your Teachings. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਾਜਨ ਦੇਸਿ ਵਿਦੇਸੀਅੜੇ ਸਾਨੇਹੜੇ ਦੇਦੀ ॥ saajan des videseearre saaneharre dedee | O Friend, You have travelled so far from Your homeland; I send my message of love to You. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਲੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਜਣਾ ਮੁੰਧ ਨੈਣ ਭਰੇਦੀ ॥ saar samaale tin sajanaa mundh nain bharedee | I cherish and remember that Friend; the eyes of this soul-bride are filled with tears. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮੁੰਧ ਨੈਣ ਭਰੇਦੀ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰੇਦੀ ਕਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥ mundh nain bharedee gun saaredee kiau prabh milaa piaare | The eyes of the soul-bride are filled with tears; I dwell upon Your Glorious Virtues. How can I meet my Beloved Lord God? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪੰਥੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਉ ਵਿਖੜਾ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਾਰੇ ॥ maarag panth na jaanau vikharraa kiau paaeeai pir paare | I do not know the treacherous path, the way to You. How can I find You and cross over, O my Husband Lord? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੀ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਆਗੈ ਰਾਖੈ ॥ satigurasabadee milai vichhunee tan man aagai raakhai | Through the Shabad, the Word of the True Guru, the separated soul-bride meets with the Lord; I place my body and mind before You. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸ ਫਲਿਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖੈ ॥੩॥ naanak amrit birakh mahaa ras faliaa mil preetam ras chaakhai |3| O Nanak, the ambrosial tree bears the most delicious fruits; meeting with my Beloved, I taste the sweet essence. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
