ਆਇਆ ਓਹੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਜਿ ਕੁਲ ਕਾ ਕਰੇ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥ aaeaa ohu paravaan hai ji kul kaa kare udhaar | Celebrated and approved is the coming into the world of such a person, who saves all his generations as well. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਗੈ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਪੁਛੀਐ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਹੈ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ agai jaat na puchheeai karanee sabad hai saar | Hereafter, no one is questioned about social status; excellent and sublime is the practice of the Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹੋਰੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਪੜਣਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ hor koorr parranaa koorr kamaavanaa bikhiaa naal piaar | Other study is false, and other actions are false; such people are in love with poison. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਜਨਮੁ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥ andar sukh na hovee manamukh janam khuaar | They do not find any peace within themselves; the self-willed manmukhs waste away their lives. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਿ ॥੨॥ naanak naam rate se ubare gur kai het apaar |2| O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam are saved; they have infinite love for the Guru. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਆਪੇ ਸਭੁ ਸਚਾ ॥ aape kar kar vekhadaa aape sabh sachaa | He Himself creates the creation, and gazes upon it; He Himself is totally True. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੋ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਸੋਈ ਨਰੁ ਕਚਾ ॥ jo hukam na boojhai khasam kaa soee nar kachaa | One who does not understand the Hukam, the Command of his Lord and Master, is false. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਤੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਦਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਚਾ ॥ jit bhaavai tith laaeidaa guramukh har sachaa | By the Pleasure of His Will, the True Lord joins the Gurmukh to Himself. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਰਚਾ ॥ sabhanaa kaa saahib ek hai gurasabadee rachaa | He is the One Lord and Master of all; through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, we are blended with Him. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਸਭਿ ਤਿਸ ਦੇ ਜਚਾ ॥ guramukh sadaa salaaheeai sabh tis de jachaa | The Gurmukhs praise Him forever; all are beggars of Him. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕਪੜ ਭੋਗ ਡਰਾਵਣੇ ਜਿਚਰੁ ਪਿਰੀ ਨ ਡੇਖੁ ॥੨॥ kaparr bhog ddaraavane jichar piree na ddekh |2| Even clothes and food are frightening to me, as long as I do not see my Beloved. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਕਾਜਲੁ ਹਾਰੁ ਤਮੋਲ ਰਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਸੇ ਹਭਿ ਰਸ ਛਾਰੁ ॥੩॥ kaajal haar tamol ras bin pase habh ras chhaar |3| Eye make-up, garlands of flowers, and the flavor of betel leaf, are all nothing but dust, without seeing You. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੀਤੋ ਥਾਟੁ ਸਿਰਜਿ ਸੰਸਾਰਿਆ ॥ guramukh keeto thaatt siraj sansaariaa | You created the world, making a place for the Gurmukhs. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਆਗਿਆ ਹੋਏ ਬੇਦ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿਆ ॥ har aagiaa hoe bed paap pun veechaariaa | By the Will of the Lord, the Vedas came into being; they discriminate between sin and virtue. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸੁ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਸਥਾਰਿਆ ॥ brahamaa bisan mahes trai gun bisathaariaa | You created Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, and the expanse of the three qualities. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਵ ਖੰਡ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮੀ ਸਾਜਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥ nav khandd prithamee saaj har rang savaariaa | Creating the world of the nine regions, O Lord, You have embellished it with beauty. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਵੇਕੀ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਇ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਲ ਧਾਰਿਆ ॥ vekee jant upaae antar kal dhaariaa | Creating the beings of various kinds, You infused Your power into them. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ ਸਚੁ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਿਆ ॥ teraa ant na jaanai koe sach sirajanahaariaa | No one knows Your limit, O True Creator Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੂ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਆਪਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥ too jaaneh sabh bidh aap guramukh nisataariaa |1| You Yourself know all ways and means; You Yourself save the Gurmukhs. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਕੰਤਾ ਤੂ ਸਉ ਸੇਜੜੀ ਮੈਡਾ ਹਭੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਉਲਾਹਿ ॥੨॥ kantaa too sau sejarree maiddaa habho dukh ulaeh |2| O my Husband Lord, please sleep upon my bed, that all my sufferings may be gone. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
