ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਈ ਜਨ ਊਤਮ ਜੋ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੁਮ ਮਨਾ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੮॥ kahu naanak seee jan aootam jo bhaaveh suaamee tum manaa |16|1|8| Says Nanak, those humble beings are exalted, who are pleasing to Your Mind, O my Lord and Master. ||16||1||8|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਮਰਥ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਦਾਨਾ ॥ prabh samarath sarab sukh daanaa | God is the almighty Giver of all peace and joy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਿਮਰਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੋਹੁ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨਾ ॥ simrau naam hohu miharavaanaa | Be merciful to me, that I may meditate in remembrance on Your Name. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ਜਨੁ ਬਾਂਛੈ ਜਾਚੰਗਨਾ ॥੧॥ har daataa jeea jant bhekhaaree jan baanchhai jaachanganaa |1| The Lord is the Great Giver; all beings and creatures are beggars; His humble servants yearn to beg from Him. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਗਉ ਜਨ ਧੂਰਿ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਉ ॥ maagau jan dhoor param gat paavau | I beg for the dust of the feet of the humble, that I may be blessed with the supreme status, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਮਿਟਾਵਉ ॥ janam janam kee mail mittaavau | and the filth of countless lifetimes may be erased. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੀਰਘ ਰੋਗ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਉਖਧਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲਿ ਰਾਪੈ ਮੰਗਨਾ ॥੨॥ deeragh rog mitteh har aaukhadh har niramal raapai manganaa |2| The chronic diseases are cured by the medicine of the Lord’s Name; I beg to be imbued with the Immaculate Lord. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸ੍ਰਵਣੀ ਸੁਣਉ ਬਿਮਲ ਜਸੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥ sravanee sunau bimal jas suaamee | With my ears, I listen to the Pure Praises of my Lord and Master. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਏਕਾ ਓਟ ਤਜਉ ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾਮੀ ॥ ekaa ott tjau bikh kaamee | With the Support of the One Lord, I have abandoned corruption, sexuality and desire. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਪਾਇ ਲਗਉ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਸੁਕ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੰਗਨਾ ॥੩॥ niv niv paae lgau daas tere kar sukrit naahee sanganaa |3| I humbly bow and fall at the feet of Your slaves; I do not hesitate to do good deeds. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਸਨਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੇ ॥ rasanaa gun gaavai har tere | O Lord, with my tongue I sing Your Glorious Praises. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਿਟਹਿ ਕਮਾਤੇ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ॥ mitteh kamaate avagun mere | The sins which I have committed are erased. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮਨੁ ਜੀਵੈ ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਤਜਿ ਤੰਗਨਾ ॥੪॥ simar simar suaamee man jeevai panch doot taj tanganaa |4| Meditating, meditating in remembrance on my Lord and Master, my mind lives; I am rid of the five oppressive demons. ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਜਪਿ ਬੋਹਿਥਿ ਚਰੀਐ ॥ charan kamal jap bohith chareeai | Meditating on Your lotus feet, I have come aboard Your boat. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰੀਐ ॥ santasang mil saagar tareeai | Joining the Society of the Saints, I cross over the world-ocean. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਰਚਾ ਬੰਦਨ ਹਰਿ ਸਮਤ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਨੰਗਨਾ ॥੫॥ arachaa bandan har samat nivaasee baahurr jon na nanganaa |5| My flower-offering and worship is to realize that the Lord is dwelling alike in all; I shall not be reincarnated naked again. ||5|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੋ ਕਰਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਗੋੁਪਾਲਾ ॥ daas daasan ko kar lehu guopaalaa | Please make me the slave of Your slaves, O Lord of the world. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥ kripaa nidhaan deen deaalaa | You are the treasure of Grace, merciful to the meek. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਖਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਮਿਲੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਭੰਗਨਾ ॥੬॥ sakhaa sahaaee pooran paramesur mil kade na hovee bhanganaa |6| Meet with your companion and helper, the Perfect Transcendent Lord God; you shall never be separated from Him again. ||6|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪਿ ਧਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਆਗੈ ॥ man tan arap dharee har aagai | I dedicate my mind and body, and place them in offering before the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕਾ ਸੋਇਆ ਜਾਗੈ ॥ janam janam kaa soeaa jaagai | Asleep for countless lifetimes, I have awakened. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਾ ਸੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਕੁ ਹਤਿ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਹੰਤਨਾ ॥੭॥ jis kaa saa soee pratipaalak hat tiaagee haumai hantanaa |7| He, to whom I belong, is my cherisher and nurturer. I have killed and discarded my murderous self-conceit. ||7|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥ jal thal pooran antarajaamee | The Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, is pervading the water and the land. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਅਛਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥ ghatt ghatt raviaa achhal suaamee | The undeceivable Lord and Master is permeating each and every heart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਰਮ ਭੀਤਿ ਖੋਈ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਏਕੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਸਰਬੰਗਨਾ ॥੮॥ bharam bheet khoee gur poorai ek raviaa sarabanganaa |8| The Perfect Guru has demolished the wall of doubt, and now I see the One Lord pervading everywhere. ||8|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਤ ਕਤ ਪੇਖਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ॥ jat kat pekhau prabh sukh saagar | Wherever I look, there I see God, the ocean of peace. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਤੋਟਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਨਾਹੀ ਰਤਨਾਗਰ ॥ har tott bhanddaar naahee ratanaagar | The Lord’s treasure is never exhausted; He is the storehouse of jewels. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਗਹ ਅਗਾਹ ਕਿਛੁ ਮਿਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਿਰਪੰਗਨਾ ॥੯॥ agah agaah kichh mit nahee paaeeai so boojhai jis kirapanganaa |9| He cannot be seized; He is inaccessible, and His limits cannot be found. He is realized when the Lord bestows His Grace. ||9|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਛਾਤੀ ਸੀਤਲ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਠੰਢਾ ॥ chhaatee seetal man tan tthandtaa | My heart is cooled, and my mind and body are calmed and soothed. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕੀ ਮਿਟਵੀ ਡੰਝਾ ॥ janam maran kee mittavee ddanjhaa | The craving for birth and death is quenched. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਕਾਢਿ ਲੀਏ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਅਮਿਓ ਧਾਰਿ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੰਗਨਾ ॥੧੦॥ kar geh kaadt lee prabh apunai amio dhaar drisattanganaa |10| Grasping hold of my hand, He has lifted me up and out; He has blessed me with His Ambrosial Glance of Grace. ||10|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਸਭ ਠਾਈ ॥ eko ek raviaa sabh tthaaee | The One and Only Lord is permeating and pervading everywhere. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ tis bin doojaa koee naahee | There is none other than Him at all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਦਿ ਮਧਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਬੁਝੀ ਭਰਮੰਗਨਾ ॥੧੧॥ aad madh ant prabh raviaa trisan bujhee bharamanganaa |11| God permeates the beginning, the middle and the end; He has subdued my desires and doubts. ||11|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ॥ gur paramesar gur gobind | The Guru is the Transcendent Lord, the Guru is the Lord of the Universe. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਦ ਬਖਸੰਦੁ ॥ gur karataa gur sad bakhasand | The Guru is the Creator, the Guru is forever forgiving. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਜਪੁ ਜਾਪਿ ਜਪਤ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਸੰਤ ਸੰਗਨਾ ॥੧੨॥ gur jap jaap japat fal paaeaa giaan deepak sant sanganaa |12| Meditating, chanting the Guru’s Chant, I have obtained the fruits and rewards; in the Company of the Saints, I have been blessed with the lamp of spiritual wisdom. ||12|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਪੇਖਾ ਸੋ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥ jo pekhaa so sabh kichh suaamee | Whatever I see, is my Lord and Master God. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਸੁਨਣਾ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਬਾਨੀ ॥ jo sunanaa so prabh kee baanee | Whatever I hear, is the Bani of God’s Word. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਕੀਨੋ ਸੋ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਕਰਾਇਓ ਸਰਣਿ ਸਹਾਈ ਸੰਤਹ ਤਨਾ ॥੧੩॥ jo keeno so tumeh karaaeo saran sahaaee santah tanaa |13| Whatever I do, You make me do; You are the Sanctuary, the help and support of the Saints, Your children. ||13|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਚਕੁ ਜਾਚੈ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਅਰਾਧੈ ॥ jaachak jaachai tumeh araadhai | The beggar begs, and worships You in adoration. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਧੈ ॥ patit paavan pooran prabh saadhai | You are the Purifier of the sinners, O Perfectly Holy Lord God. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਏਕੋ ਦਾਨੁ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਆਨ ਮੰਗਨ ਨਿਹਕਿੰਚਨਾ ॥੧੪॥ eko daan sarab sukh gun nidh aan mangan nihakinchanaa |14| Please bless me with this one gift, O treasure of all bliss and virtue; I do not ask for anything else. ||14|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
