ਇਕਿ ਭੂਖੇ ਇਕਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਏ ਸਭਸੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਾਰਣਾ ॥੩॥ eik bhookhe ik tripat aghaae sabhasai teraa paaranaa |3| Some are hungry and some are satisfied and satiated, but all lean on Your Support. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਪੇ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਾਚਾ ॥ aape sat sat sat saachaa | The True Lord Himself is True, True, True. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਭਗਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਚਾ ॥ ot pot bhagatan sang raachaa | He is woven into the essence of His devotees, through and through. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਆਪੇ ਹੈ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਪਸਾਰਣਾ ॥੪॥ aape gupat aape hai paragatt apanaa aap pasaaranaa |4| He Himself is hidden, and He Himself is revealed. He Himself spreads Himself out. ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਦ ਹੋਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ sadaa sadaa sad hovanahaaraa | Forever, forever and ever, He shall always exist. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਊਚਾ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਥਾਹੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ aoochaa agam athaahu apaaraa | He is lofty, inaccessible, unfathomable and infinite. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਊਣੇ ਭਰੇ ਭਰੇ ਭਰਿ ਊਣੇ ਏਹਿ ਚਲਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕੇ ਕਾਰਣਾ ॥੫॥ aoone bhare bhare bhar aoone ehi chalat suaamee ke kaaranaa |5| He fills the empty, and empties out the filled; such are the plays and dramas of my Lord and Master. ||5|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਚੇ ਸਾਹਾ ॥ mukh saalaahee sache saahaa | With my mouth, I praise my True Lord King. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨੈਣੀ ਪੇਖਾ ਅਗਮ ਅਥਾਹਾ ॥ nainee pekhaa agam athaahaa | With my eyes, I behold the inaccessible and unfathomable Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਨੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਗਲ ਉਧਾਰਣਾ ॥੬॥ karanee sun sun man tan hariaa mere saahib sagal udhaaranaa |6| Listening, listening with my ears, my mind and body are rejuvenated; my Lord and Master saves all. ||6|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖਹਿ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਪਣਾ ॥ kar kar vekheh keetaa apanaa | He created the creation, and gazes upon what He has created. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸੋਈ ਹੈ ਜਪਣਾ ॥ jeea jant soee hai japanaa | All beings and creatures meditate on Him. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਪਣੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਨਦਰੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਣਾ ॥੭॥ apanee kudarat aape jaanai nadaree nadar nihaalanaa |7| He Himself knows His creative power; He blesses with His Glance of Grace. ||7|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਜਹ ਬੈਸਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਸੇ ॥ sant sabhaa jeh baiseh prabh paase | Where the Saints gather together and sit, God dwells close at hand. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਨੰਦ ਮੰਗਲ ਹਰਿ ਚਲਤ ਤਮਾਸੇ ॥ anand mangal har chalat tamaase | They abide in bliss and joy, beholding the Lord’s wondrous play. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਅਨਹਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਤਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਚਿਤਾਰਣਾ ॥੮॥ gun gaaveh anahad dhun baanee teh naanak daas chitaaranaa |8| They sing the Glories of the Lord, and the unstruck sound current of His Bani; O Nanak, His slaves remain conscious of Him. ||8|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣਾ ਸਭੁ ਚਲਤੁ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ॥ aavan jaanaa sabh chalat tumaaraa | Coming and going is all Your wondrous play. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਖੇਲੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ kar kar dekhai khel apaaraa | Creating the Creation, You gaze upon Your infinite play. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਉਪਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ਅਪਣਾ ਕੀਆ ਪਾਲਣਾ ॥੯॥ aap upaae upaavanahaaraa apanaa keea paalanaa |9| Creating the Creation, You Yourself cherish and nurture it. ||9|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਜੀਵਾ ਸੋਇ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥ sun sun jeevaa soe tumaaree | Listening, listening to Your Glory, I live. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਜਾਈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥ sadaa sadaa jaaee balihaaree | Forever and ever, I am a sacrifice to You. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੁਇ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਸਿਮਰਉ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਣਾ ॥੧੦॥ due kar jorr simrau din raatee mere suaamee agam apaaranaa |10| With my palms pressed together, I meditate in remembrance on You, day and night, O my inaccessible, infinite Lord and Master. ||10|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥ tudh bin dooje kis saalaahee | Other than You, who else should I praise? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਜਪੀ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥ eko ek japee man maahee | I meditate on the One and Only Lord within my mind. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੂਝਿ ਜਨ ਭਏ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ਇਹ ਭਗਤਾ ਕੀ ਘਾਲਣਾ ॥੧੧॥ hukam boojh jan bhe nihaalaa ih bhagataa kee ghaalanaa |11| Realizing the Hukam of Your Will, Your humble servants are enraptured; this is the achievement of Your devotees. ||11|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚਾ ॥ gur upades japeeai man saachaa | Following the Guru’s Teachings, I meditate on the True Lord within my mind. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਰਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਚਾ ॥ gur upades raam rang raachaa | Following the Guru’s Teachings, I am immersed in the Lord’s Love. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਤੁਟਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਬੰਧਨ ਇਹੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਰਜਾਲਣਾ ॥੧੨॥ gur upades tutteh sabh bandhan ihu bharam mohu parajaalanaa |12| Following the Guru’s Teachings, all bonds are broken, and this doubt and emotional attachment are burnt away. ||12|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਹ ਰਾਖੈ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਖ ਥਾਨਾ ॥ jeh raakhai soee sukh thaanaa | Wherever He keeps me, is my place of rest. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਹਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਸੋਈ ਭਲ ਮਾਨਾ ॥ sahaje hoe soee bhal maanaa | Whatever naturally happens, I accept that as good. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਨਸੇ ਬੈਰ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਬੈਰੀ ਸਭੁ ਏਕੋ ਹੈ ਭਾਲਣਾ ॥੧੩॥ binase bair naahee ko bairee sabh eko hai bhaalanaa |13| Hatred is gone - I have no hatred at all; I see the One Lord in all. ||13|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਡਰ ਚੂਕੇ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਅੰਧਿਆਰੇ ॥ ddar chooke binase andhiaare | Fear has been removed, and darkness has been dispelled. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਭਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੁਰਖ ਨਿਰਾਰੇ ॥ pragatt bhe prabh purakh niraare | The all-powerful, primal, detached Lord God has been revealed. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਪੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਪਏ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਘਾਲਣਾ ॥੧੪॥ aap chhodd pe saranaaee jis kaa saa tis ghaalanaa |14| Forsaking self-conceit, I have entered His Sanctuary, and I work for Him. ||14|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਐਸਾ ਕੋ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਆਇਆ ॥ aisaa ko vaddabhaagee aaeaa | Rare are those few, very blessed people, who come into the world, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਜਿਨਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥ aatth pehar jin khasam dhiaaeaa | and meditate on their Lord and Master, twenty-four hours a day. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤਰੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਸਧਾਰਣਾ ॥੧੫॥ tis jan kai sang tarai sabh koee so paravaar sadhaaranaa |15| Associating with such humble people, all are saved, and their families are saved as well. ||15|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਹ ਬਖਸੀਸ ਖਸਮ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਾ ॥ eih bakhasees khasam te paavaa | This is the blessing which I have received from my Lord and Master. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਧਿਆਵਾ ॥ aatth pehar kar jorr dhiaavaa | Twenty-four hours a day, with my palms pressed together, I meditate on Him. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੈ ਉਚਾਰਣਾ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੬॥ naam japee naam sehaj samaavaa naam naanak milai uchaaranaa |16|1|6| I chant the Naam, and through the Naam, I intuitively merge into the Lord; O Nanak, may I be blessed with the Naam, and ever repeat it. ||16||1||6|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ maaroo mahalaa 5 | Maaroo, Fifth Mehl: - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੂਰਤਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਨ ਭੂਲੁ ਗਵਾਰਾ ॥ soorat dekh na bhool gavaaraa | Do not be fooled by appearances, you fool. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਿਥਨ ਮੋਹਾਰਾ ਝੂਠੁ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥ mithan mohaaraa jhootth pasaaraa | This is a false attachment to the expanse of an illusion. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਕੋਈ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਰਾਇਣਾ ॥੧॥ jag meh koee rehan na paae nihachal ek naaraaeinaa |1| No one can remain in this world; only the One Lord is permanent and unchanging. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਪਉ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥ gur poore kee pau saranaaee | Seek the Sanctuary of the Perfect Guru. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੋਹੁ ਸੋਗੁ ਸਭੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥ mohu sog sabh bharam mittaaee | He shall eradicate all emotional attachment, sorrow and doubt. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਏਕੋ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦ ਗਾਇਣਾ ॥੨॥ eko mantru drirraae aaukhadh sach naam rid gaaeinaa |2| He shall administer the medicine, the Mantra of the One Name. Sing the True Name within your heart. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
