ਗੁਰੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਨਾਸਹਿ ॥ gur simarat sabh kilavikh naaseh | Meditating in remembrance on the Guru, all the sins are erased. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਜਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਫਾਸਹਿ ॥ gur simarat jam sang na faaseh | Meditating in remembrance on the Guru, one is not strangled by the noose of Death. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਾਟੇ ਅਪਮਾਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥ gur simarat man niramal hovai gur kaatte apamaanaa he |2| Meditating in remembrance on the Guru, the mind becomes immaculate; the Guru eliminates egotistical pride. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਨਰਕਿ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥ gur kaa sevak narak na jaae | The Guru’s servant is not consigned to hell. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥ gur kaa sevak paarabraham dhiaae | The Guru’s servant meditates on the Supreme Lord God. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਦਾ ਨਿਤ ਜੀਅ ਦਾਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥ gur kaa sevak saadhasang paae gur karadaa nit jeea daanaa he |3| The Guru’s servant joins the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; the Guru ever gives the life of the soul. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਸੁਣੀਐ ॥ gur duaarai har keeratan suneeai | At the Gurdwara, the Guru’s Gate, the Kirtan of the Lord’s Praises are sung. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਭਣੀਐ ॥ satigur bhett har jas mukh bhaneeai | Meeting with the True Guru, one chants the Lord’s Praises. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਮਿਟਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਦੇਵੈ ਮਾਨਾਂ ਹੇ ॥੪॥ kal kales mittaae satigur har daragah devai maanaan he |4| The True Guru eradicates sorrow and suffering, and bestows honor in the Court of the Lord. ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥ agam agochar guroo dikhaaeaa | The Guru has revealed the inaccessible and unfathomable Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭੂਲਾ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ bhoolaa maarag satigur paaeaa | The True Guru returns to the Path, those who have wandered away. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਭਗਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਪੂਰ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੑਾਇਆ ਗਿਆਨਾਂ ਹੇ ॥੫॥ gur sevak kau bighan na bhagatee har poor drirraaeaa giaanaan he |5| No obstacles stand in the way of devotion to the Lord, for one who serves the Guru. The Guru implants perfect spiritual wisdom. ||5|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਿ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਇਆ ਸਭਨੀ ਠਾਂਈ ॥ gur drisattaaeaa sabhanee tthaanee | The Guru has revealed the Lord everywhere. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਗੋਸਾਈ ॥ jal thal poor rahiaa gosaaee | The Lord of the Universe is permeating and pervading the water and the land. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਊਚ ਊਨ ਸਭ ਏਕ ਸਮਾਨਾਂ ਮਨਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥ aooch aoon sabh ek samaanaan man laagaa sehaj dhiaanaa he |6| The high and the low are all the same to Him. Focus your mind’s meditation intuitively on Him. ||6|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸਭ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ gur miliai sabh trisan bujhaaee | Meeting with the Guru, all thirst is quenched. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਨਹ ਜੋਹੈ ਮਾਈ ॥ gur miliai neh johai maaee | Meeting with the Guru, one is not watched by Maya. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਦੀਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀ ਪਾਨਾਂ ਹੇ ॥੭॥ sat santokh deea gur poorai naam amrit pee paanaan he |7| The Perfect Guru bestows truth and contentment; I drink in the Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||7|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਭ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥ gur kee baanee sabh maeh samaanee | The Word of the Guru’s Bani is contained in all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਪਿ ਸੁਣੀ ਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥ aap sunee tai aap vakhaanee | He Himself hears it, and He Himself repeats it. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਪੀ ਤੇਈ ਸਭਿ ਨਿਸਤ੍ਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਥਾਨਾਂ ਹੇ ॥੮॥ jin jin japee teee sabh nisatre tin paaeaa nihachal thaanaan he |8| Those who meditate on it, are all emancipated; they attain the eternal and unchanging home. ||8|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ satigur kee mahimaa satigur jaanai | The Glory of the True Guru is known only to the True Guru. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਆਪਣ ਭਾਣੈ ॥ jo kichh kare su aapan bhaanai | Whatever He does, is according to the Pleasure of His Will. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧੂ ਧੂਰਿ ਜਾਚਹਿ ਜਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨਾਂ ਹੇ ॥੯॥੧॥੪॥ saadhoo dhoor jaacheh jan tere naanak sad kurabaanaan he |9|1|4| Your humble servants beg for the dust of the feet of the Holy; Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You. ||9||1||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਆਦਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰਾ ॥ aad niranjan prabh nirankaaraa | The Primal, Immaculate Lord God is formless. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰਾਰਾ ॥ sabh meh varatai aap niraaraa | The Detached Lord is Himself prevailing in all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਵਰਨੁ ਜਾਤਿ ਚਿਹਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਸਭ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥ varan jaat chihan nahee koee sabh hukame srisatt upaaeidaa |1| He has no race or social class, no identifying mark. By the Hukam of His Will, He created the entire universe. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੋਨਿ ਸਬਾਈ ॥ lakh chauraaseeh jon sabaaee | Out of all the 8.4 million species of beings, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਣਸ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਦੀਈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ maanas kau prabh deeee vaddiaaee | God blessed mankind with glory. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਸੁ ਪਉੜੀ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਨਰੁ ਚੂਕੈ ਸੋ ਆਇ ਜਾਇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥ eis paurree te jo nar chookai so aae jaae dukh paaeidaa |2| That human who misses this chance, shall suffer the pains of coming and going in reincarnation. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ॥ keetaa hovai tis kiaa kaheeai | What should I say, to one who has been created. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਲਹੀਐ ॥ guramukh naam padaarath laheeai | The Gurmukh receives the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਭੂਲੈ ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥ jis aap bhulaae soee bhoolai so boojhai jiseh bujhaaeidaa |3| He alone is confused, whom the Lord Himself confuses. He alone understands, whom the Lord inspires to understand. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਕਾ ਨਗਰੁ ਇਹੁ ਕੀਆ ॥ harakh sog kaa nagar ihu keea | This body has been made the village of joy and sorrow. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣੀਆ ॥ se ubare jo satigur saraneea | They alone are emancipated, who seek the Sanctuary of the True Guru. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤ੍ਰਿਹਾ ਗੁਣਾ ਤੇ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਰਾਰਾ ਸੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥ trihaa gunaa te rahai niraaraa so guramukh sobhaa paaeidaa |4| One who remains untouched by the three qualities, the three gunas - such a Gurmukh is blessed with glory. ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਨਿਕ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਏ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ॥ anik karam kee bahutere | You can do anything, but whatever you do, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਕੀਜੈ ਸੋ ਬੰਧਨੁ ਪੈਰੇ ॥ jo keejai so bandhan paire | Only serves to tie your feet. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੁਰੁਤਾ ਬੀਜੁ ਬੀਜੇ ਨਹੀ ਜੰਮੈ ਸਭੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਗਵਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥ kurutaa beej beeje nahee jamai sabh laahaa mool gavaaeidaa |5| The seed which is planted out of season does not sprout, and all one’s capital and profits are lost. ||5|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਲਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਪਰਧਾਨਾ ॥ kalajug meh keeratan paradhaanaa | In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Kirtan of the Lord’s Praises are most sublime and exalted. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
