ਆਪੇ ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ aape sachaa sabad milaae | The True Lord Himself unites us in the Word of His Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦੇ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥ sabade vichahu bharam chukaae | Within the Shabad, doubt is driven out. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੮॥੨੨॥ naanak naam milai vaddiaaee naame hee sukh paaeidaa |16|8|22| O Nanak, He blesses us with His Naam, and throgh the Naam, peace is found. ||16||8||22|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੇ ॥ agam agochar veparavaahe | He is inaccessible, unfathomable and self-sustaining. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਅਗਮ ਅਥਾਹੇ ॥ aape miharavaan agam athaahe | He Himself is merciful, inaccessible and unlimited. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਪੜਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਮੇਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ aparr koe na sakai tis no gurasabadee melaaeaa |1| No one can reach up to Him; through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, He is met. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੁਧੁਨੋ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ॥ tudhuno seveh jo tudh bhaaveh | He alone serves You, who pleases You. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ॥ gur kai sabade sach samaaveh | Through the Guru’s Shabad, he merges in the True Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ anadin gun raveh din raatee rasanaa har ras bhaaeaa |2| Night and day, he chants the Lord’s Praises, day and night; his tongue savors and delights in the sublime essence of the Lord. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਸੇ ਮਰਣੁ ਸਵਾਰਹਿ ॥ sabad mareh se maran savaareh | Those who die in the Shabad - their death is exalted and glorified. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਹਿ ॥ har ke gun hiradai ur dhaareh | They enshrine the Lord’s Glories in their hearts. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਨਮੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ janam safal har charanee laage doojaa bhaau chukaaeaa |3| Holding tight to the Guru’s feet, their lives becomes prosperous, and they are rid of the love of duality. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮੇਲੇ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ har jeeo mele aap milaae | The Dear Lord unites them in Union with Himself. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ gur kai sabade aap gavaae | Through the Guru’s Shabad, self-conceit is dispelled. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤੇ ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥ anadin sadaa har bhagatee raate is jag meh laahaa paaeaa |4| Those who remain attuned to devotional worship to the Lord, night and day, earn the profit in this world. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਾ ਮੈ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ tere gun kahaa mai kehan na jaaee | What Glorious Virtues of Yours should I describe? I cannot describe them. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥ ant na paaraa keemat nahee paaee | You have no end or limitation. Your value cannot be estimated. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੫॥ aape deaa kare sukhadaataa gun meh gunee samaaeaa |5| When the Giver of peace Himself bestows His Mercy, the virtuous are absorbed in virtue. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੈ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥ eis jag meh mohu hai paasaaraa | In this world, emotional attachment is spread all over. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ॥ manamukh agiaanee andh andhaaraa | The ignorant, self-willed manmukh is immersed in utter darkness. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਧੰਧੈ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੬॥ dhandhai dhaavat janam gavaaeaa bin naavai dukh paaeaa |6| Chasing after worldly affairs, he wastes away his life in vain; without the Name, he suffers in pain. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ karam hovai taa satigur paae | If God grants His Grace, then one finds the True Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥ haumai mail sabad jalaae | Through the Shabad, the filth of egotism is burned away. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੭॥ man niramal giaan ratan chaanan agiaan andher gavaaeaa |7| The mind becomes immaculate, and the jewel of spiritual wisdom brings enlightenment; the darkness of spiritual ignorance is dispelled. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਅਨੇਕ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥ tere naam anek keemat nahee paaee | Your Names are countless; Your value cannot be estimated. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਾਈ ॥ sach naam har hiradai vasaaee | I enshrine the Lord’s True Name within my heart. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਉਣੁ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੮॥ keemat kaun kare prabh teree too aape sehaj samaaeaa |8| Who can estimate Your value, God? You are immersed and absorbed in Yourself. ||8|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ naam amolak agam apaaraa | The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is priceless, inaccessible and infinite. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਆ ਤੋਲਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ naa ko hoaa tolanahaaraa | No one can weigh it. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਤੋਲੇ ਤੋਲਿ ਤੋਲਾਏ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਮੇਲਿ ਤੋਲਾਇਆ ॥੯॥ aape tole tol tolaae gurasabadee mel tolaaeaa |9| You Yourself weigh, and estimate all; through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, You unite, when the weight is perfect. ||9|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥ sevak seveh kareh aradaas | Your servant serves, and offers this prayer. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਬਹਾਲਹਿ ਪਾਸਿ ॥ too aape mel bahaaleh paas | Please, let me sit near You, and unite me with Yourself. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੧੦॥ sabhanaa jeea kaa sukhadaataa poorai karam dhiaaeaa |10| You are the Giver of peace to all beings; by perfect karma, we meditate on You. ||10|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਜਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥ jat sat sanjam ji sach kamaavai | Chastity, truth and self-control come by practicing and living the Truth. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਜਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥ eihu man niramal ji har gun gaavai | This mind becomes immaculate and pure, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਸੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੧੧॥ eis bikh meh amrit paraapat hovai har jeeo mere bhaaeaa |11| In this world of poison, the Ambrosial Nectar is obtained, if it pleases my Dear Lord. ||11|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ॥ jis no bujhaae soee boojhai | He alone understands, whom God inspires to understand. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਅੰਦਰੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥ har gun gaavai andar soojhai | Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, one’s inner being is awakened. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੨॥ haumai meraa tthaak rahaae sahaje hee sach paaeaa |12| Egotism and possessiveness are silenced and subdued, and one intuitively finds the True Lord. ||12|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਹੋਰ ਫਿਰੈ ਘਨੇਰੀ ॥ bin karamaa hor firai ghaneree | Without good karma, countless others wander around. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਚੁਕੈ ਨ ਫੇਰੀ ॥ mar mar jamai chukai na feree | They die, and die again, only to be reborn; they cannot escape the cycle of reincarnation. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾ ਰਾਤਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੩॥ bikh kaa raataa bikh kamaavai sukh na kabahoo paaeaa |13| Imbued with poison, they practice poison and corruption, and they never find peace. ||13|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰੇ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ॥ bahute bhekh kare bhekhadhaaree | Many disguise themselves with religious robes. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਮਾਰੀ ॥ bin sabadai haumai kinai na maaree | Without the Shabad, no one has conquered egotism. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੪॥ jeevat marai taa mukat paae sachai naae samaaeaa |14| One who remains dead while yet alive is liberated, and merges in the True Name. ||14|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਇਸੁ ਤਨਹਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥ agiaan trisanaa is taneh jalaae | Spiritual ignorance and desire burn this human body. - Guru Amardas Ji
