ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਹਜ ਅਨੰਦਾ ॥ satigur seviai sehaj anandaa | Serving the True Guru, one obtains intuitive bliss. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਆਇ ਵੁਠਾ ਗੋਵਿੰਦਾ ॥ hiradai aae vutthaa govindaa | The Lord of the Universe comes to dwell within the heart. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਹਜੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਆਪੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥ sahaje bhagat kare din raatee aape bhagat karaaeidaa |4| He intuitively practices devotional worship day and night; God Himself practices devotional worship. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਤਿਨੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ satigur te vichhurre tinee dukh paaeaa | Those who are separated from the True Guru, suffer in misery. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥ anadin maareeeh dukh sabaaeaa | Night and day, they are punished, and they suffer in total agony. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਥੇ ਕਾਲੇ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਹੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥ mathe kaale mehal na paaveh dukh hee vich dukh paaeidaa |5| Their faces are blackened, and they do not obtain the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence. They suffer in sorrow and agony. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥ satigur seveh se vaddabhaagee | Those who serve the True Guru are very fortunate. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਹਜ ਭਾਇ ਸਚੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥ sehaj bhaae sachee liv laagee | They intuitively enshrine love for the True Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸਚੈ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥ sacho sach kamaaveh sad hee sachai mel milaaeidaa |6| They practice Truth, forever Truth; they are united in Union with the True Lord. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਸਚਾ ਦੇਇ ਸੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ jis no sachaa dee su paae | He alone obtains the Truth, unto whom the True Lord gives it. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥ antar saach bharam chukaae | His inner being is filled with Truth, and his doubt is dispelled. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੁ ਸਚੈ ਕਾ ਆਪੇ ਦਾਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥ sach sachai kaa aape daataa jis devai so sach paaeidaa |7| The True Lord Himself is the Giver of Truth; he alone obtains the Truth, unto whom He gives it. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਸੋਈ ॥ aape karataa sabhanaa kaa soee | He Himself is the Creator of all. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥ jis no aap bujhaae boojhai koee | Only one whom He instructs, understands Him. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥ aape bakhase de vaddiaaee aape mel milaaeidaa |8| He Himself forgives, and grants glorious greatness. He himself unites in His Union. ||8|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਦਿਆ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ haumai karadiaa janam gavaaeaa | Acting egotistically, one loses his life. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਗੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ aagai mohu na chookai maaeaa | Even in the world hereafter, emotioal attachment to Maya does not leave him. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਗੈ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਲੇਵੈ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਲ ਘਾਣੀ ਪੀੜਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥ agai jamakaal lekhaa levai jiau til ghaanee peerraaeidaa |9| In the world hereafter, the Messenger of Death calls him to account, and crushes him like sesame seeds in the oil-press. ||9|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੋਈ ॥ poorai bhaag gur sevaa hoee | By perfect destiny, one serves the Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਸੇਵੇ ਕੋਈ ॥ nadar kare taa seve koee | If God grants His Grace, then one serves. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਮਹਲਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥ jamakaal tis nerr na aavai mehal sachai sukh paaeidaa |10| The Messenger of Death cannot even approach him, and in the Mansion of the True Lord’s Presence, he finds peace. ||10|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤਿਨ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਏ ॥ tin sukh paaeaa jo tudh bhaae | They alone find peace, who are pleasing to Your Will. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ॥ poorai bhaag gur sevaa laae | By perfect destiny, they are attached to the Guru’s service. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੇਰੈ ਹਥਿ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥ terai hath hai sabh vaddiaaee jis deveh so paaeidaa |11| All glorious greatness rests in Your Hands; he alone obtains it, unto whom You give it. ||11|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇ ਪਾਏ ॥ andar paragaas guroo te paae | Through the Guru, one’s inner being is enlightened and illumined. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥ naam padaarath man vasaae | The wealth of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to dwell in the mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥ giaan ratan sadaa ghatt chaanan agiaan andher gavaaeidaa |12| The jewel of spiritual wisdom ever illumines the heart, and the darkness of spiritual ignorance is dispelled. ||12|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੇ ॥ agiaanee andhe doojai laage | The blind and ignorant are attached to duality. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਡੁਬਿ ਮੂਏ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥ bin paanee ddub mooe abhaage | The unfortunates are drowned without water, and die. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਚਲਦਿਆ ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥ chaladiaa ghar dar nadar na aavai jam dar baadhaa dukh paaeidaa |13| When they depart from the world, they do not find the Lord’s door and home; bound and gagged at Death’s door, they suffer in pain. ||13|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ bin satigur seve mukat na hoee | Without serving the True Guru, no one finds liberation. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਕੋਈ ॥ giaanee dhiaanee poochhahu koee | Go ask any spiritual teacher or meditator. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥ satigur seve tis milai vaddiaaee dar sachai sobhaa paaeidaa |14| Whoever serves the True Guru is blessed with glorious greatness, and honored in the Court of the True Lord. ||14|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨੋ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ satigur no seve tis aap milaae | One who serves the True Guru, the Lord merges into Himself. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਮਤਾ ਕਾਟਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥ mamataa kaatt sach liv laae | Cutting away attachment, one lovingly focuses on the True Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਵਣਜਹਿ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਨਾਮੋ ਲਾਹਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥ sadaa sach vanajeh vaapaaree naamo laahaa paaeidaa |15| The merchants deal forever in Truth; they earn the profit of the Naam. ||15|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ॥ aape kare karaae karataa | The Creator Himself acts, and inspires all to act. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥ sabad marai soee jan mukataa | He alone is liberated, who dies in the Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੫॥੧੯॥ naanak naam vasai man antar naamo naam dhiaaeidaa |16|5|19| O Nanak, the Naam dwells deep within the mind; meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||16||5||19|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੋ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ jo tudh karanaa so kar paaeaa | Whatever You do, is done. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਆਇਆ ॥ bhaane vich ko viralaa aaeaa | How rare are those who walk in harmony with the Lord’s Will. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨੇ ਸੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥ bhaanaa mane so sukh paae bhaane vich sukh paaeidaa |1| One who surrenders to the Lord’s Will finds peace; he finds peace in the Lord’s Will. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ guramukh teraa bhaanaa bhaavai | Your Will is pleasing to the Gurmukh. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥ sahaje hee sukh sach kamaavai | Practicing Truth, he intuitively finds peace. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭਾਣੇ ਨੋ ਲੋਚੈ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਆਪਿ ਮਨਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥ bhaane no lochai bahuteree aapanaa bhaanaa aap manaaeidaa |2| Many long to walk in harmony with the Lord’s Will; He Himself inspires us to surrender to His Will. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨੇ ਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਏ ॥ teraa bhaanaa mane su milai tudh aae | One who surrenders to Your Will, meets with You, Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
