ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਏ ॥ guramukh hovai su sojhee paae | One who becomes Gurmukh understands. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ haumai maaeaa bharam gavaae | He rids himself of egotism, Maya and doubt. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਉੜੀ ਊਤਮ ਊਚੀ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥ gur kee paurree aootam aoochee dar sachai har gun gaaeidaa |7| He ascends the sublime, exalted ladder of the Guru, and he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord at His True Door. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ guramukh sach sanjam karanee saar | The Gurmukh practices true self-control, and acts in excellence. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥ guramukh paae mokh duaar | The Gurmukh obtains the gate of salvation. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥ bhaae bhagat sadaa rang raataa aap gavaae samaaeidaa |8| Through loving devotion, he remains forever imbued with the Lord’s Love; eradicating self-conceit, he merges in the Lord. ||8|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਮਨੁ ਖੋਜਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥ guramukh hovai man khoj sunaae | One who becomes Gurmukh examines his own mind, and instructs others. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥ sachai naam sadaa liv laae | He is lovingly attuned to the True Name forever. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸੀ ਜੋ ਸਚੇ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥ jo tis bhaavai soee karasee jo sache man bhaaeidaa |9| They act in harmony with the Mind of the True Lord. ||9|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ jaa tis bhaavai satiguroo milaae | As it pleases His Will, He unites us with the True Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥ jaa tis bhaavai taa man vasaae | As it pleases His Will, He comes to dwell within the mind. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪਣੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਭਾਣੈ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥ aapanai bhaanai sadaa rang raataa bhaanai man vasaaeidaa |10| As it pleases His Will, He imbues us with His Love; as it pleases His Will, He comes to dwell in the mind. ||10|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਛੀਜੈ ॥ manahatth karam kare so chheejai | Those who act stubborn-mindedly are destroyed. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰੇ ਨਹੀ ਭੀਜੈ ॥ bahute bhekh kare nahee bheejai | Wearing all sorts of religious robes, they do not please the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਬਿਖਿਆ ਰਾਤੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖੇ ਦੁਖਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥ bikhiaa raate dukh kamaaveh dukhe dukh samaaeidaa |11| Tinged by corruption, they earn only pain; they are immersed in pain. ||11|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥ guramukh hovai su sukh kamaae | One who becomes Gurmukh earns peace. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਰਣ ਜੀਵਣ ਕੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਏ ॥ maran jeevan kee sojhee paae | He comes to understand death and birth. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਰਣੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਜੋ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥ maran jeevan jo sam kar jaanai so mere prabh bhaaeidaa |12| One who looks alike upon death and birth, is pleasing to my God. ||12|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਸੁ ਹਹਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥ guramukh mareh su heh paravaan | The Gurmukh, while remaining dead, is respected and approved. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥ aavan jaanaa sabad pachhaan | He realizes that coming and going are according to God’s Will. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜੰਮੈ ਨਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥ marai na jamai naa dukh paae man hee maneh samaaeidaa |13| He does not die, he is not reborn, and he does not suffer in pain; his mind merges in the Mind of God. ||13|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ se vaddabhaagee jinee satigur paaeaa | Very fortunate are those who find the True Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥ haumai vichahu mohu chukaaeaa | They eradicate egotism and attachment from within. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥ man niramal fir mail na laagai dar sachai sobhaa paaeidaa |14| Their minds are immaculate, and they are never again stained with filth. They are honored at the Door of the True Court. ||14|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ॥ aape kare karaae aape | He Himself acts, and inspires all to act. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ॥ aape vekhai thaap uthaape | He Himself watches over all; He establishes and disestablishes. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਲੇਖੈ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥ guramukh sevaa mere prabh bhaavai sach sun lekhai paaeidaa |15| The service of the Gurmukh is pleasing to my God; one who listens to the Truth is approved. ||15|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥ guramukh sacho sach kamaavai | The Gurmukh practices Truth, and only Truth. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਵੈ ॥ guramukh niramal mail na laavai | The Gurmukh is immaculate; no filth attaches to him. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੧੫॥ naanak naam rate veechaaree naame naam samaaeidaa |16|1|15| O Nanak, those who contemplate the Naam are imbued with it. They merge in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||16||1||15|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ maaroo mahalaa 3 | Maaroo, Third Mehl: - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਭ ਸਾਜੀ ॥ aape srisatt hukam sabh saajee | He Himself fashioned the Universe, through the Hukam of His Command. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ ਨਿਵਾਜੀ ॥ aape thaap uthaap nivaajee | He Himself establishes and disestablishes, and embellishes with grace. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪੇ ਨਿਆਉ ਕਰੇ ਸਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥ aape niaau kare sabh saachaa saache saach milaaeidaa |1| The True Lord Himself administers all justice; through Truth, we merge in the True Lord. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕਾਇਆ ਕੋਟੁ ਹੈ ਆਕਾਰਾ ॥ kaaeaa kott hai aakaaraa | The body takes the form of a fortress. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥ maaeaa mohu pasariaa paasaaraa | Emotional attachment to Maya has expanded throughout its expanse. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਭਸਮੈ ਕੀ ਢੇਰੀ ਖੇਹੂ ਖੇਹ ਰਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥ bin sabadai bhasamai kee dteree khehoo kheh ralaaeidaa |2| Without the Word of the Shabad, the body is reduced to a pile of ashes; in the end, dust mingles with dust. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕਾਇਆ ਕੰਚਨ ਕੋਟੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ kaaeaa kanchan kott apaaraa | The body is the infinite fortress of gold; - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ jis vich raviaa sabad apaaraa | it is permeated by the Infinite Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਚੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥ guramukh gaavai sadaa gun saache mil preetam sukh paaeidaa |3| The Gurmukh sings the Glorious Praises of the True Lord forever; meeting his Beloved, he finds peace. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥ kaaeaa har mandar har aap savaare | The body is the temple of the Lord; the Lord Himself embellishes it. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਵਸੈ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥ tis vich har jeeo vasai muraare | The Dear Lord dwells within it. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਣਜਨਿ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥ gur kai sabad vanajan vaapaaree nadaree aap milaaeidaa |4| Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, the merchants trade, and in His Grace, the Lord merges them with Himself. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸੋ ਸੂਚਾ ਜਿ ਕਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥ so soochaa ji karodh nivaare | He alone is pure, who eradicates anger. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਬਦੇ ਬੂਝੈ ਆਪੁ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥ sabade boojhai aap savaare | He realizes the Shabad, and reforms himself. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥ aape kare karaae karataa aape man vasaaeidaa |5| The Creator Himself acts, and inspires all to act; He Himself abides in the mind. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਾਲੀ ॥ niramal bhagat hai niraalee | Pure and unique is devotional worship. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਧੋਵਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ man tan dhoveh sabad veechaaree | The mind and body are washed clean, contemplating the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
