ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥ gur kai sabad har naam vakhaanai | Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, he chants the Name of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥ anadin naam rataa din raatee maaeaa mohu chukaahaa he |8| Night and day, he remains imbued with the Naam, day and night; he is rid of emotional attachment to Maya. ||8|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ gur sevaa te sabh kichh paae | Serving the Guru, all things are obtained; - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ haumai meraa aap gavaae | egotism, possessiveness and self-conceit are taken away. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਸੋਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥ aape kripaa kare sukhadaataa gur kai sabade sohaa he |9| The Lord, the Giver of peace Himself grants His Grace; He exalts and adorns with the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. ||9|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ gur kaa sabad amrit hai baanee | The Guru’s Shabad is the Ambrosial Bani. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥ anadin har kaa naam vakhaanee | Night and day, chant the Name of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਵਸੈ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੋ ਘਟੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥ har har sachaa vasai ghatt antar so ghatt niramal taahaa he |10| That heart becomes immaculate, which is filled with the True Lord, Har, Har. ||10|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹਹਿ ॥ sevak seveh sabad salaaheh | His servants serve, and praise His Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ॥ sadaa rang raate har gun gaaveh | Imbued forever with the color of His Love, they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਪਰਮਲ ਵਾਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥ aape bakhase sabad milaae paramal vaas man taahaa he |11| He Himself forgives, and unites them with the Shabad; the fragrance of sandalwood permeates their minds. ||11|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦੇ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਥੇ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ॥ sabade akath kathe saalaahe | Through the Shabad, they speak the Unspoken, and praise the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਚੇ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੇ ॥ mere prabh saache veparavaahe | My True Lord God is self-sufficient. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸਬਦੈ ਕਾ ਰਸੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥ aape gunadaataa sabad milaae sabadai kaa ras taahaa he |12| The Giver of virtue Himself unites them with the Shabad; they enjoy the sublime essence of the Shabad. ||12|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥ manamukh bhoolaa tthaur na paae | The confused, self-willed manmukhs find no place of rest. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ ॥ jo dhur likhiaa su karam kamaae | They do those deeds which they are pre-destined to do. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਰਾਤੇ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਖੋਜੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥ bikhiaa raate bikhiaa khojai mar janamai dukh taahaa he |13| Imbued with poison, they search out poison, and suffer the pains of death and rebirth. ||13|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ॥ aape aap aap saalaahe | He Himself praises Himself. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਮਾਹੇ ॥ tere gun prabh tujh hee maahe | Your Glorious Virtues are within You alone, God. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੂ ਆਪਿ ਸਚਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੀ ਆਪੇ ਅਲਖੁ ਅਥਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥ too aap sachaa teree baanee sachee aape alakh athaahaa he |14| You Yourself are True, and True is the Word of Your Bani. You Yourself are invisible and unknowable. ||14|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਦਾਤੇ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥ bin gur daate koe na paae | Without the Guru, the Giver, no one finds the Lord, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਲਖ ਕੋਟੀ ਜੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ ॥ lakh kottee je karam kamaae | though one may make hundreds of thousands and millions of attempts. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥ gur kirapaa te ghatt antar vasiaa sabade sach saalaahaa he |15| By Guru’s Grace, He dwells deep within the heart; through the Shabad, praise the True Lord. ||15|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਧੁਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ se jan mile dhur aap milaae | They alone meet Him, whom the Lord unites with Himself. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਏ ॥ saachee baanee sabad suhaae | They are adorned and exalted with the True Word of His Bani, and the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਿਤ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੪॥੧੩॥ naanak jan gun gaavai nit saache gun gaavah gunee samaahaa he |16|4|13| Servant Nanak continually sings the Glorious Praises of the True Lord; singing His Glories, he is immersed in the Glorious Lord of Virtue. ||16||4||13|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਏਕੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ॥ nihachal ek sadaa sach soee | The One Lord is eternal and unchanging, forever True. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ॥ poore gur te sojhee hoee | Through the Perfect Guru, this understanding is obtained. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਭੀਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਇਨਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸੀਲੁ ਸੰਨਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ har ras bheene sadaa dhiaaein guramat seel sanaahaa he |1| Those who are drenched with the sublime essence of the Lord, meditate forever on Him; following the Guru’s Teachings, they obtain the armor of humility. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ॥ andar rang sadaa sachiaaraa | Deep within, they love the True Lord forever. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥ gur kai sabad har naam piaaraa | Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, they love the Lord’s Name. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਛੋਡਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥ nau nidh naam vasiaa ghatt antar chhoddiaa maaeaa kaa laahaa he |2| The Naam, the embodiment of the nine treasures, abides within their hearts; they renounce the profit of Maya. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਰਈਅਤਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੋਈ ॥ reeat raaje duramat doee | Both the king and his subjects are involved in evil-mindedness and duality. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਏਕੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ bin satigur seve ek na hoee | Without serving the True Guru, they do not become one with the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਇਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਰਾਜੁ ਤਿਨਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥ ek dhiaaein sadaa sukh paaein nihachal raaj tinaahaa he |3| Those who meditate on the One Lord find eternal peace. Their power is eternal and unfailing. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣਾ ਰਖੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥ aavan jaanaa rakhai na koee | No one can save them from coming and going. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਤੇ ਹੋਈ ॥ jaman maran tisai te hoee | Birth and death come from Him. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਗਤਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਤੇ ਪਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥ guramukh saachaa sadaa dhiaavahu gat mukat tisai te paahaa he |4| The Gurmukh meditates forever on the True Lord. Emancipation and liberation are obtained from Him. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰੈ ॥ sach sanjam satiguroo duaarai | Truth and self-control are found through the Door of the True Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ॥ haumai krodh sabad nivaarai | Egotism and anger are silenced through the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸੀਲੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥ satigur sev sadaa sukh paaeeai seel santokh sabh taahaa he |5| Serving the True Guru, lasting peace is found; humility and contentment all come from Him. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਉਪਜੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥ haumai mohu upajai sansaaraa | Out of egotism and attachment, the Universe welled up. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਾ ॥ sabh jag binasai naam visaaraa | Forgetting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, all the world perishes. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਚਾ ਜਗਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥ bin satigur seve naam na paaeeai naam sachaa jag laahaa he |6| Without serving the True Guru, the Naam is not obtained. The Naam is the True profit in this world. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚਾ ਅਮਰੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥ sachaa amar sabad suhaaeaa | True is His Will, beauteous and pleasing through the Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੰਚ ਸਬਦ ਮਿਲਿ ਵਾਜਾ ਵਾਇਆ ॥ panch sabad mil vaajaa vaaeaa | The Panch Shabad, the five primal sounds, vibrate and resonate. - Guru Amardas Ji
