ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਲਬੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਕਾ ਦੋਰਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥ bikhiaa kaaran lab lobh kamaaveh duramat kaa doraahaa he |9| For the sake of poison, they act in greed and possessiveness, and evil-minded duality. ||9|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥ pooraa satigur bhagat drirraae | The Perfect True Guru implants devotional worship within. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥ gur kai sabad har naam chit laae | Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, he lovingly centers his consciousness on the Lord’s Name. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਭੀਨੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥ man tan har raviaa ghatt antar man bheenai bhagat salaahaa he |10| The Lord pervades his mind, body and heart; deep within, his mind is drenched with devotional worship and praise of the Lord. ||10|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਅਸੁਰ ਸੰਘਾਰਣੁ ॥ meraa prabh saachaa asur sanghaaran | My True Lord God is the Destroyer of demons. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਣੁ ॥ gur kai sabad bhagat nisataaran | Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, His devotees are saved. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਾਹਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥ meraa prabh saachaa sad hee saachaa sir saahaa paatisaahaa he |11| My True Lord God is forever True. He is the Emperor over the heads of kings. ||11|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਸਚੇ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਏ ॥ se bhagat sache terai man bhaae | True are those devotees, who are pleasing to Your Mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਏ ॥ dar keeratan kareh gur sabad suhaae | They sing the Kirtan of His Praises at His Door; they are embellished and exalted by the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਨਿਰਧਨ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵੇਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥ saachee baanee anadin gaaveh niradhan kaa naam vesaahaa he |12| Night and day, they sing the True Word of His Bani. The Naam is the wealth of the poor. ||12|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਵਿਛੋੜਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ jin aape mel vichhorreh naahee | Those whom You unite, Lord, are never separated again. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥ gur kai sabad sadaa saalaahee | Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, they praise You forever. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਭਨਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਤੂ ਏਕੋ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥ sabhanaa sir too eko saahib sabade naam salaahaa he |13| You are the One Lord and Master over all. Through the Shabad, the Naam is praised. ||13|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਤੁਧੁਨੋ ਕੋਈ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ bin sabadai tudhuno koee na jaanee | Without the Shabad, no one knows You. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਕਥੀ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ॥ tudh aape kathee akath kahaanee | You Yourself speak the Unspoken Speech. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਸੰਬਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥ aape sabad sadaa gur daataa har naam jap sanbaahaa he |14| You Yourself are the Shabad forever, the Guru, the Great Giver; chanting the Lord’s Name, You bestow Your treasure. ||14|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ too aape karataa sirajanahaaraa | You Yourself are the Creator of the Universe. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੇਰਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ teraa likhiaa koe na mettanahaaraa | No one can erase what You have written. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਸਹਸਾ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥ guramukh naam deveh too aape sahasaa ganat na taahaa he |15| You Yourself bless the Gurmukh with the Naam, who is no longer skeptical, and is not held to account. ||15|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭਗਤ ਸਚੇ ਤੇਰੈ ਦਰਵਾਰੇ ॥ bhagat sache terai daravaare | Your true devotees stand at the Door of Your Court. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦੇ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਭਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥ sabade sevan bhaae piaare | They serve the Shabad with love and affection. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸੋਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੩॥੧੨॥ naanak naam rate bairaagee naame kaaraj sohaa he |16|3|12| O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam remain detached; through the Naam, their affairs are resolved. ||16||3||12|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਇਕੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥ merai prabh saachai ik khel rachaaeaa | My True Lord God has staged a play. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਜੇਹਾ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥ koe na kis hee jehaa upaaeaa | He has created no one like anyone else. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਫਰਕੁ ਕਰੇ ਵੇਖਿ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਸਭਿ ਰਸ ਦੇਹੀ ਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ aape farak kare vekh vigasai sabh ras dehee maahaa he |1| He made them different, and he gazes upon them with pleasure; he placed all the flavors in the body. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਵਾਜੈ ਪਉਣੁ ਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਵਜਾਏ ॥ vaajai paun tai aap vajaae | You Yourself vibrate the beat of the breath. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਿਵ ਸਕਤੀ ਦੇਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਏ ॥ siv sakatee dehee meh paae | Shiva and Shakti, energy and matter - You have placed them into the body. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਉਲਟੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥ gur parasaadee ulattee hovai giaan ratan sabad taahaa he |2| By Guru’s Grace, one turns away from the world, and attains the jewel of spiritual wisdom, and the Word of the Shabad. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਆ ॥ andheraa chaanan aape keea | He Himself created darkness and light. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਏਕੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਬੀਆ ॥ eko varatai avar na beea | He alone is pervasive; there is no other at all. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਕਮਲੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਬੁਧਿ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥ gur parasaadee aap pachhaanai kamal bigasai budh taahaa he |3| One who realizes his own self - by Guru’s Grace, the lotus of his mind blossoms forth. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਪਣੀ ਗਹਣ ਗਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ apanee gehan gat aape jaanai | Only He Himself knows His depth and extent. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹੋਰੁ ਲੋਕੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥ hor lok sun sun aakh vakhaanai | Other people can only listen and hear what is spoken and said. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥ giaanee hovai su guramukh boojhai saachee sifat salaahaa he |4| One who is spiritually wise, understands himself as Gurmukh; he praises the True Lord. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੇਹੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ dehee andar vasat apaaraa | Deep within the body is the priceless object. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਕਪਟ ਖੁਲਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ aape kapatt khulaavanahaaraa | He Himself opens the doors. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥ guramukh sahaje amrit peevai trisanaa agan bujhaahaa he |5| The Gurmukh intuitively drings in the Ambrosial Nectar, and the fire of desire is quenched. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਭਿ ਰਸ ਦੇਹੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਏ ॥ sabh ras dehee andar paae | He placed all the flavors within the body. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥ virale kau gur sabad bujhaae | How rare are those who understand, through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਦਰੁ ਖੋਜੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਜਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥ andar khoje sabad saalaahe baahar kaahe jaahaa he |6| So search within yourself, and praise the Shabad. Why run around outside your self? ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਵਿਣੁ ਚਾਖੇ ਸਾਦੁ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥ vin chaakhe saad kisai na aaeaa | Without tasting, no one enjoys the flavor. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆਇਆ ॥ gur kai sabad amrit peeaeaa | Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, one drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀ ਅਮਰਾ ਪਦੁ ਹੋਏ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਸੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥ amrit pee amaraa pad hoe gur kai sabad ras taahaa he |7| The Ambrosial Nectar is drunk, and the immoral status is obtained, when one obtains the sublime essence of the Guru’s Shabad. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸੋ ਸਭਿ ਗੁਣ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ aap pachhaanai so sabh gun jaanai | One who realizes himself, knows all virtues. - Guru Amardas Ji
