ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਏਕੋ ਹੈ ਜਾਤਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਵੀਜੈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥ guramukh giaan eko hai jaataa anadin naam raveejai he |13| The Gurmukh knows the spiritual wisdom of the One Lord. Night and day, he chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||13|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬੇਦ ਪੜਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਬੂਝਹਿ ॥ bed parreh har naam na boojheh | He may read the Vedas, but he does not realize the Lord’s Name. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਲੂਝਹਿ ॥ maaeaa kaaran parr parr loojheh | For the sake of Maya, he reads and recites and argues. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧਾ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਰੀਜੈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥ antar mail agiaanee andhaa kiau kar dutar tareejai he |14| The ignorant and blind person is filled with filth within. How can he cross over the impassable world-ocean? ||14|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬੇਦ ਬਾਦ ਸਭਿ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ॥ bed baad sabh aakh vakhaaneh | He voices all the controversies of the Vedas, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਭੀਜੈ ਨ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ॥ n antar bheejai na sabad pachhaaneh | but his inner being is not saturated or satisfied, and he does not realize the Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੁੰਨੁ ਪਾਪੁ ਸਭੁ ਬੇਦਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਜੈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥ pun paap sabh bed drirraaeaa guramukh amrit peejai he |15| The Vedas tell all about virtue and vice, but only the Gurmukh drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar. ||15|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਈ ॥ aape saachaa eko soee | The One True Lord is all by Himself. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥ tis bin doojaa avar na koee | There is no one else except Him. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਰਵੀਜੈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੬॥ naanak naam rate man saachaa sacho sach raveejai he |16|6| O Nanak, true is the mind of one who is attuned to the Naam; he speaks Truth, and nothing but Truth. ||16||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ maaroo mahalaa 3 | Maaroo, Third Mehl: - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੈ ਸਚਾ ਤਖਤੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥ sachai sachaa takhat rachaaeaa | The True Lord has established the Throne of Truth. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਤਿਥੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਨ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ nij ghar vasiaa tithai mohu na maaeaa | He dwells in His own home deep within the self, where there is no emotional attachment to Maya. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸਾਚੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ sad hee saach vasiaa ghatt antar guramukh karanee saaree he |1| The True Lord dwells deep within the nucleus of the Gurmukh’s heart forever; his actions are excellent. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚਾ ਸਉਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥ sachaa saudaa sach vaapaaraa | True is his merchandise, and true is his trade. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨ ਤਿਥੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥ n tithai bharam na doojaa pasaaraa | There is no doubt within him, and no expanse of duality. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚਾ ਧਨੁ ਖਟਿਆ ਕਦੇ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਹੇ ॥੨॥ sachaa dhan khattiaa kade tott na aavai boojhai ko veechaaree he |2| He has earned the true wealth, which is never exhausted. How few are those who contemplate this, and understand. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੈ ਲਾਏ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਲਾਗੇ ॥ sachai laae se jan laage | They alone are attached to the True Name, whom the Lord Himself attaches. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਵਡਭਾਗੇ ॥ antar sabad masatak vaddabhaage | The Word of the Shabad is deep within the nucleus of the self; good fortune is recorded upon their foreheads. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਹੇ ॥੩॥ sachai sabad sadaa gun gaaveh sabad rate veechaaree he |3| Through the True Word of the Shabad, they sing the True Praises of the Lord; they are attuned to contemplative meditation on the Shabad. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੋ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥ sacho sachaa sach saalaahee | I praise the True Lord, the Truest of the True. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਏਕੋ ਵੇਖਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ eko vekhaa doojaa naahee | I see the One Lord, and no other. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਊਚੋ ਊਚੀ ਪਉੜੀ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਰਤਨਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀ ਹੇ ॥੪॥ guramat aoocho aoochee paurree giaan ratan haumai maaree he |4| The Guru’s Teachings are the ladder to reach the highest of the high. the jewel of spiritual wisdom conquers egotism. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇਆ ॥ maaeaa mohu sabad jalaaeaa | Emotional attachment to Maya is burnt away by the Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਇਆ ॥ sach man vasiaa jaa tudh bhaaeaa | The True One comes to dwell in the mind, when it pleases You, O Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੇ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਸਚੀ ਕਰਣੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਿਖਾ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ਹੇ ॥੫॥ sache kee sabh sachee karanee haumai tikhaa nivaaree he |5| True are all the actions of the truthful; the thirst of egotism is subdued. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਨਾ ॥ maaeaa mohu sabh aape keenaa | All by Himself, God created emotional attachment to Maya. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਕਿਨ ਹੀ ਚੀਨਾ ॥ guramukh viralai kin hee cheenaa | How rare are those who, as Gurmukh, realize the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸਾਚੀ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਹੇ ॥੬॥ guramukh hovai su sach kamaavai saachee karanee saaree he |6| One who becomes Gurmukh practices Truth; true and excellent are his actions. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈ ਜੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਈ ॥ kaar kamaaee jo mere prabh bhaaee | He does those deeds which are pleasing to my God; - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ haumai trisanaa sabad bujhaaee | through the Shabad, he burns away egotism and the thirst of desire. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ਹੇ ॥੭॥ guramat sad hee antar seetal haumai maar nivaaree he |7| Following the Guru’s Teachings, he remains forever cool and calm deep within; he conquers and subdues his ego. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚਿ ਲਗੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ sach lage tin sabh kichh bhaavai | Those who are attached to the Truth are pleased with everything. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਚਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥ sachai sabade sach suhaavai | They are embellished with the True Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਐਥੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਸੇ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਨਦਰੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਹੇ ॥੮॥ aithai saache se dar saache nadaree nadar savaaree he |8| Those who are true in this world, are true in the Court of the Lord. The Merciful Lord adorns them with His Mercy. ||8|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਚੇ ਜੋ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥ bin saache jo doojai laaeaa | Those who are attached to duality, and not the Truth, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਦੁਖ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥ maaeaa moh dukh sabaaeaa | are trapped in emotional attachment to Maya; they totally suffer in pain. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾਪੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਦੁਖੁ ਭਾਰੀ ਹੇ ॥੯॥ bin gur dukh sukh jaapai naahee maaeaa moh dukh bhaaree he |9| Without the Guru, they do not understand pain and pleasure; attached to Maya, they suffer in terrible pain. ||9|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਜਿਨਾ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥ saachaa sabad jinaa man bhaaeaa | Those whose minds are pleased with the True Word of the Shabad - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨੀ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥ poorab likhiaa tinee kamaaeaa | act according to pre-ordained destiny. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੋ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥ sacho seveh sach dhiaaveh sach rate veechaaree he |10| They serve the True Lord, and meditate on the True Lord; they are imbued with contemplative meditation on the True Lord. ||10|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੀਠੀ ਲਾਗੀ ॥ gur kee sevaa meetthee laagee | Service to the Guru seems sweet to them. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਧੀ ॥ anadin sookh sehaj samaadhee | Night and day, they are intuitively immersed in celestial peace. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਤਿਆ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥ har har karatiaa man niramal hoaa gur kee sev piaaree he |11| Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, their minds become immaculate; they love to serve the Guru. ||11|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਲਾਏ ॥ se jan sukhee satigur sache laae | Those humble beings are at peace, whom the True Guru attaches to the Truth. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ aape bhaane aap milaae | He Himself, in His Will, merges them into Himself. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਉਬਰੇ ਹੋਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਖੁਆਰੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥ satigur raakhe se jan ubare hor maaeaa moh khuaaree he |12| Those humble beings, whom the True Guru protects, are saved. The rest are ruined through emotional attachment to Maya. ||12|| - Guru Amardas Ji
