ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ aape mele de vaddiaaee | Uniting with Himself, He bestows glorious greatness. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ gur parasaadee keemat paaee | By Guru’s Grace, one comes to know the Lord’s worth. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਦੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੩॥ manamukh bahut firai bilalaadee doojai bhaae khuaaee he |3| The self-willed manmukh wanders everywhere, weeping and wailing; he is utterly ruined by the love of duality. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚੇ ਪਾਈ ॥ haumai maaeaa viche paaee | Egotism was instilled into the illusion of Maya. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਲੇ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥ manamukh bhoole pat gavaaee | The self-willed manmukh is deluded, and loses his honor. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਨਾਇ ਰਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੈ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥ guramukh hovai so naae raachai saachai rahiaa samaaee he |4| But one who becomes Gurmukh is absorbed in the Name; he remains immersed in the True Lord. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ gur te giaan naam ratan paaeaa | Spiritual wisdom is obtained from the Guru, along with the jewel of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਸਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥ manasaa maar man maeh samaaeaa | Desires are subdued, and one remains immersed in the mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲ ਕਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥ aape khel kare sabh karataa aape dee bujhaaee he |5| The Creator Himself stages all His plays; He Himself bestows understanding. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ satigur seve aap gavaae | One who serves the True Guru eradicates self-conceit. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ mil preetam sabad sukh paae | Meeting with his Beloved, he finds peace through the Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਤੇ ਬਣਿ ਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੬॥ antar piaar bhagatee raataa sehaj mate ban aaee he |6| Deep within his inner being, he is imbued with loving devotion; intuitively, he becomes one with the Lord. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਤਾ ॥ dookh nivaaran gur te jaataa | The Destroyer of pain is known through the Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ॥ aap miliaa jagajeevan daataa | The Great Giver, the Life of the world, Himself has met me. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਲਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਭਉ ਭਰਮੁ ਸਰੀਰਹੁ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥ jis no laae soee boojhai bhau bharam sareerahu jaaee he |7| He alone understands, whom the Lord joins with Himself. Fear and doubt are taken away from his body. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ॥ aape guramukh aape devai | He Himself is the Gurmukh, and He Himself bestows His blessings. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੈ ॥ sachai sabad satigur sevai | Through the True Word of the Shabad, serve the True Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਰਾ ਜਮੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਬਣਿ ਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥ jaraa jam tis johi na saakai saache siau ban aaee he |8| Old age and death cannot even touch one who is in harmony with the True Lord. ||8|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਜਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥ trisanaa agan jalai sansaaraa | The world is burning up in the fire of desire. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਲਿ ਜਲਿ ਖਪੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥ jal jal khapai bahut vikaaraa | It burns and burns, and is destroyed in all its corruption. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਕਬਹੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥ manamukh tthaur na paae kabahoo satigur boojh bujhaaee he |9| The self-willed manmukh finds no place of rest anywhere. The True Guru has imparted this understanding. ||9|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥ satigur sevan se vaddabhaagee | Those who serve the True Guru are very fortunate. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥ saachai naam sadaa liv laagee | They remain lovingly focused on the True Name forever. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥ antar naam raviaa nihakeval trisanaa sabad bujhaaee he |10| The Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord, permeates the nucleus of their inner being; through the Shabad, their desires are quenched. ||10|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੀ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ sachaa sabad sachee hai baanee | True is the Word of the Shabad, and True is the Bani of His Word. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਪਛਾਣੀ ॥ guramukh viralai kinai pachhaanee | How rare is that Gurmukh who realizes this. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ਰਹਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥ sachai sabad rate bairaagee aavan jaan rahaaee he |11| Those who are imbued with the True Shabad are detached. Their comings and goings in reincarnation are ended. ||11|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦੁ ਬੁਝੈ ਸੋ ਮੈਲੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥ sabad bujhai so mail chukaae | One who realizes the Shabad is cleansed of impurities. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਏ ॥ niramal naam vasai man aae | The Immaculate Naam abides within his mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥ satigur apanaa sad hee seveh haumai vichahu jaaee he |12| He serves his True Guru forever, and egotism is eradicated from within. ||12|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਾ ਦਰੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥ gur te boojhai taa dar soojhai | If one comes to understand, through the Guru, then he comes to know the Lord’s Door. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣਾ ਕਥਿ ਕਥਿ ਲੂਝੈ ॥ naam vihoonaa kath kath loojhai | But without the Naam, one babbles and argues in vain. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੂਖ ਗਵਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥ satigur seve kee vaddiaaee trisanaa bhookh gavaaee he |13| The glory of serving the True Guru is that it eradicates hunger and thirst. ||13|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਬੂਝੈ ॥ aape aap milai taa boojhai | When the Lord unites them with Himself, then they come to understand. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਹੂਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ॥ giaan vihoonaa kichhoo na soojhai | Without spiritual wisdom, they understand nothing at all. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥ gur kee daat sadaa man antar baanee sabad vajaaee he |14| One whose mind is filled with the Guru’s gift forever - his inner being resounds with the Shabad, and the Word of the Guru’s Bani. ||14|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥ jo dhur likhiaa su karam kamaaeaa | He acts according to his pre-ordained destiny. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ॥ koe na mettai dhur furamaaeaa | No one can erase the Command of the Primal Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਵਾਸਾ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥ satasangat meh tin hee vaasaa jin kau dhur likh paaee he |15| They alone dwell in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, who have such pre-ordained destiny. ||15|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਪਣੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ॥ apanee nadar kare so paae | He alone finds the Lord, unto whom He grants His Grace. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥ sachai sabad taarree chit laae | He links his consciousness to the deep meditative state of the True Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਭੀਖਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਰਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੧॥ naanak daas kahai benantee bheekhiaa naam dar paaee he |16|1| Nanak, Your slave, offers this humble prayer; I stand at Your Door, begging for Your Name. ||16||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭੁ ਸੋਈ ॥ eko ek varatai sabh soee | The One and only Lord is pervading and permeating everywhere. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥ guramukh viralaa boojhai koee | How rare is that person, who as Gurmukh, understands this. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਏਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ eko rav rahiaa sabh antar tis bin avar na koee he |1| The One Lord is permeating and pervading, deep within the nucleus of all. Without Him, there is no other at all. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਏ ॥ lakh chauraaseeh jeea upaae | He created the 8.4 millions species of beings. - Guru Amardas Ji
