ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਨਾ ॥ sarab niranjan purakh sujaanaa | The Primal Lord is everywhere, immaculate and all-knowing. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅਦਲੁ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥ adal kare gur giaan samaanaa | He administers justice, and is absorbed in the spiritual wisdom of the Guru. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੈ ਗਰਦਨਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਲੋਭੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੬॥ kaam krodh lai garadan maare haumai lobh chukaaeaa |6| He seizes sexual desire and anger by their necks, and kills them; He eradicates egotism and greed. ||6|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਚੈ ਥਾਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰਾ ॥ sachai thaan vasai nirankaaraa | In the True Place, the Formless Lord abides. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ aap pachhaanai sabad veechaaraa | Whoever understands his own self, contemplates the Word of the Shabad. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਚੈ ਮਹਲਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੭॥ sachai mehal nivaas nirantar aavan jaan chukaaeaa |7| He comes to abide deep within the True Mansion of His Presence, and his comings and goings are ended. ||7|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾ ਮਨੁ ਚਲੈ ਨ ਪਉਣੁ ਉਡਾਵੈ ॥ naa man chalai na paun uddaavai | His mind does not waver, and he is not buffeted by the winds of desire. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜੋਗੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਨਾਹਦੁ ਵਾਵੈ ॥ jogee sabad anaahad vaavai | Such a Yogi vibrates the unstruck sound current of the Shabad. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪੰਚ ਸਬਦ ਝੁਣਕਾਰੁ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪੇ ਵਾਇ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ॥੮॥ panch sabad jhunakaar niraalam prabh aape vaae sunaaeaa |8| God Himself plays the pure music of the Panch Shabad, the five primal sounds to hear. ||8|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਭਉ ਬੈਰਾਗਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਤਾ ॥ bhau bairaagaa sehaj samaataa | In the Fear of God, in detachment, one intuitively merges into the Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਅਨਹਦਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥ haumai tiaagee anahad raataa | Renouncing egotism, he is imbued with the unstruck sound current. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅੰਜਨੁ ਸਾਰਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਰਾਇਆ ॥੯॥ anjan saar niranjan jaanai sarab niranjan raaeaa |9| With the ointment of enlightenment, the Immaculate Lord is known; the Immaculate Lord King is pervading everywhere. ||9|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਦੁਖ ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥ dukh bhai bhanjan prabh abinaasee | God is eternal and imperishable; He is the Destroyer of pain and fear. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਰੋਗ ਕਟੇ ਕਾਟੀ ਜਮ ਫਾਸੀ ॥ rog katte kaattee jam faasee | He cures the disease, and cuts away the noose of death. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋ ਭਉ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੦॥ naanak har prabh so bhau bhanjan gur miliai har prabh paaeaa |10| O Nanak, the Lord God is the Destroyer of fear; meeting the Guru, the Lord God is found. ||10|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਾਲੈ ਕਵਲੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ kaalai kaval niranjan jaanai | One who knows the Immaculate Lord chews up death. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬੂਝੈ ਕਰਮੁ ਸੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥ boojhai karam su sabad pachhaanai | One who understands karma, realizes the Word of the Shabad. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਚੋਜੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥੧੧॥ aape jaanai aap pachhaanai sabh tis kaa choj sabaaeaa |11| He Himself knows, and He Himself realizes. This whole world is all His play. ||11|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪੇ ਸਾਹੁ ਆਪੇ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ ॥ aape saahu aape vanajaaraa | He Himself is the Banker, and He Himself is the Merchant. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪੇ ਪਰਖੇ ਪਰਖਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ aape parakhe parakhanahaaraa | The Appraiser Himself appraises. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪੇ ਕਸਿ ਕਸਵਟੀ ਲਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੨॥ aape kas kasavattee laae aape keemat paaeaa |12| He Himself tests upon His Touchstone, and He Himself estimates the value. ||12|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲਿ ਦਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਧਾਰੀ ॥ aap deaal deaa prabh dhaaree | God Himself, the Merciful Lord, grants His Grace. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥ ghatt ghatt rav rahiaa banavaaree | The Gardener pervades and permeates each and every heart. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਤੀਤੁ ਵਸੈ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖੈ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧੩॥ purakh ateet vasai nihakeval gur purakhai purakh milaaeaa |13| The pure, primal, detached Lord abides within all. The Guru, the Lord Incarnate, leads us to meet the Lord God. ||13|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦਾਨਾ ਬੀਨਾ ਗਰਬੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ prabh daanaa beenaa garab gavaae | God is wise and all-knowing; He purges men of their pride. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਦੂਜਾ ਮੇਟੈ ਏਕੁ ਦਿਖਾਏ ॥ doojaa mettai ek dikhaae | Eradicating duality, the One Lord reveals Himself. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਸਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਅਕੁਲ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੧੪॥ aasaa maeh niraalam jonee akul niranjan gaaeaa |14| Such a being remains unattached amidst hope, singing the Praise of the Immaculate Lord, who has no ancestry. ||14|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਟਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥ haumai mett sabad sukh hoee | Eradicating egotism, he obtains the peace of the Shabad. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸੋਈ ॥ aap veechaare giaanee soee | He alone is spiritually wise, who contemplates his own self. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਲਾਹਾ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੫॥੨॥੧੯॥ naanak har jas har gun laahaa satasangat sach fal paaeaa |15|2|19| O Nanak, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, the true profit is obtained; in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, the fruit of Truth is obtained. ||15||2||19|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸਚੁ ਕਹਹੁ ਸਚੈ ਘਰਿ ਰਹਣਾ ॥ sach kahahu sachai ghar rahanaa | Speak the Truth, and remain in the home of Truth. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰਹੁ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਜਗੁ ਤਰਣਾ ॥ jeevat marahu bhavajal jag taranaa | Remain dead while yet alive, and cross over the terrifying world-ocean. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗੁਰੁ ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਬੇੜੀ ਤੁਲਹਾ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਲੰਘਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ gur bohith gur berree tulahaa man har jap paar langhaaeaa |1| The Guru is the boat, the ship, the raft; meditating on the Lord in your mind, you shall be carried across to the other side. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਲੋਭ ਬਿਨਾਸਨੁ ॥ haumai mamataa lobh binaasan | Eliminating egotism, possessiveness and greed, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਉ ਦਰ ਮੁਕਤੇ ਦਸਵੈ ਆਸਨੁ ॥ nau dar mukate dasavai aasan | one is liberated from the nine gates, and obtains a place in the Tenth Gate. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਊਪਰਿ ਪਰੈ ਪਰੈ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ aoopar parai parai aparanpar jin aape aap upaaeaa |2| Lofty and high, the farthest of the far and infinite, He created Himself. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਲੇਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਤਰੀਐ ॥ guramat levahu har liv tareeai | Receiving the Guru’s Teachings, and lovingly attuned to the Lord, one crosses over. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅਕਲੁ ਗਾਇ ਜਮ ਤੇ ਕਿਆ ਡਰੀਐ ॥ akal gaae jam te kiaa ddareeai | Singing the Praises of the absolute Lord, why should anyone be afraid of death? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਤ ਜਤ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਤ ਤਤ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ jat jat dekhau tat tat tum hee avar na duteea gaaeaa |3| Wherever I look, I see only You; I do not sing of any other at all. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਚੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਸਰਣਾ ॥ sach har naam sach hai saranaa | True is the Lord’s Name, and True is His Sanctuary. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਚੁ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੁ ਜਿਤੈ ਲਗਿ ਤਰਣਾ ॥ sach gurasabad jitai lag taranaa | True is the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, grasping it, one is carries across. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅਕਥੁ ਕਥੈ ਦੇਖੈ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਫੁਨਿ ਗਰਭਿ ਨ ਜੋਨੀ ਜਾਇਆ ॥੪॥ akath kathai dekhai aparanpar fun garabh na jonee jaaeaa |4| Speaking the Unspoken, one sees the Infinite Lord, and then, he does not have to enter the womb of reincarnation again. ||4|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਚ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ sach bin sat santokh na paavai | Without the Truth, no one finds sincerity or contentment. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਵੈ ॥ bin gur mukat na aavai jaavai | Without the Guru, no one is liberated; coming and going in reincarnation continue. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮੂਲ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੫॥ mool mantru har naam rasaaein kahu naanak pooraa paaeaa |5| Chanting the Mool Mantra, and the Name of the Lord, the source of nectar, says Nanak, I have found the Perfect Lord. ||5|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
