ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਮਾਨੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥ guramukh hoe su hukam pachhaanai maanai hukam samaaeidaa |9| One who becomes Gurmukh realizes the Hukam of His command; surrendering to His Command, one merges in the Lord. ||9|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਆਇਆ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥ hukame aaeaa hukam samaaeaa | By His Command we come, and by His command we merge into Him again. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਦੀਸੈ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥ hukame deesai jagat upaaeaa | By His Command, the world was formed. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸੁਰਗੁ ਮਛੁ ਪਇਆਲਾ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਕਲਾ ਰਹਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥ hukame surag machh peaalaa hukame kalaa rahaaeidaa |10| By His Command, the heavens, this world and the nether regions were created; by His Command, His Power supports them. ||10|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਧਉਲ ਸਿਰਿ ਭਾਰੰ ॥ hukame dharatee dhaul sir bhaaran | The Hukam of His Command is the mythical bull which supports the burden of the earth on its head. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਗੈਣਾਰੰ ॥ hukame paun paanee gainaaran | By His Hukam, air, water and fire came into being. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸਿਵ ਸਕਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਖੇਲ ਖੇਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥ hukame siv sakatee ghar vaasaa hukame khel khelaaeidaa |11| By His Hukam, one dwells in the house of matter and energy - Shiva and Shakti. By His Hukam, He plays His plays. ||11|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਆਡਾਣੇ ਆਗਾਸੀ ॥ hukame aaddaane aagaasee | By the Hukam of His command, the sky is spread above. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਜਲ ਥਲ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਵਾਸੀ ॥ hukame jal thal tribhavan vaasee | By His Hukam, His creatures dwell in the water, on the land and throughout the three worlds. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸਾਸ ਗਿਰਾਸ ਸਦਾ ਫੁਨਿ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥ hukame saas giraas sadaa fun hukame dekh dikhaaeidaa |12| By His Hukam, we draw our breath and receive our food; by His Hukam, He watches over us, and inspires us to see. ||12|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹੁਕਮਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਦਸ ਅਉਤਾਰਾ ॥ hukam upaae das aautaaraa | By His Hukam, He created His ten incarnations, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਦੇਵ ਦਾਨਵ ਅਗਣਤ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ dev daanav aganat apaaraa | and the uncounted and infinite gods and devils. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਾਨੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸੁ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਝੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥ maanai hukam su daragah paijhai saach milaae samaaeidaa |13| Whoever obeys the Hukam of His Command, is robed with honor in the Court of the Lord; united with the Truth, He merges in the Lord. ||13|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਜੁਗ ਛਤੀਹ ਗੁਦਾਰੇ ॥ hukame jug chhateeh gudaare | By the Hukam of His Command, the thirty-six ages passed. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥ hukame sidh saadhik veechaare | By His Hukam, the Siddhas and seekers contemplate Him. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪਿ ਨਾਥੁ ਨਥਂੀ ਸਭ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਬਖਸੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥ aap naath nathanee sabh jaa kee bakhase mukat karaaeidaa |14| The Lord Himself has brought all under His control. Whoever He forgives, is liberated. ||14|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਾਇਆ ਕੋਟੁ ਗੜੈ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਜਾ ॥ kaaeaa kott garrai meh raajaa | In the strong fortress of the body with its beautiful doors, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨੇਬ ਖਵਾਸ ਭਲਾ ਦਰਵਾਜਾ ॥ neb khavaas bhalaa daravaajaa | Is the king, with his special assistants and ministers. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਲੋਭੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਲਬਿ ਪਾਪਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥ mithiaa lobh naahee ghar vaasaa lab paap pachhutaaeidaa |15| Those gripped by falsehood and greed do not dwell in the celestial home; engrossed in greed and sin, they come to regret and repent. ||15|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਨਗਰ ਮਹਿ ਕਾਰੀ ॥ sat santokh nagar meh kaaree | Truth and contentment govern this body-village. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਸਰਣਿ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥ jat sat sanjam saran muraaree | Chastity, truth and self-control are in the Sanctuary of the Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੪॥੧੬॥ naanak sehaj milai jagajeevan gurasabadee pat paaeidaa |16|4|16| O Nanak, one intuitively meets the Lord, the Life of the World; the Word of the Guru’s Shabad brings honor. ||16||4||16|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸੁੰਨ ਕਲਾ ਅਪਰੰਪਰਿ ਧਾਰੀ ॥ sun kalaa aparanpar dhaaree | In the Primal Void, the Infinite Lord assumed His Power. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਅਪਰ ਅਪਾਰੀ ॥ aap niraalam apar apaaree | He Himself is unattached, infinite and incomparable. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪੇ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਸੁੰਨੁ ਉਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥ aape kudarat kar kar dekhai sunahu sun upaaeidaa |1| He Himself exercised His Creative Power, and He gazes upon His creation; from the Primal Void, He formed the Void. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪਉਣੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਸੁੰਨੈ ਤੇ ਸਾਜੇ ॥ paun paanee sunai te saaje | From this Primal Void, He fashioned air and water. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਕਾਇਆ ਗੜ ਰਾਜੇ ॥ srisatt upaae kaaeaa garr raaje | He created the universe, and the king in the fortress of the body. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅਗਨਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਜੀਉ ਜੋਤਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਸੁੰਨੇ ਕਲਾ ਰਹਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥ agan paanee jeeo jot tumaaree sune kalaa rahaaeidaa |2| Your Light pervades fire, water and souls; Your Power rests in the Primal Void. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸੁ ਉਪਾਏ ॥ sunahu brahamaa bisan mahes upaae | From this Primal Void, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva issued forth. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੁੰਨੇ ਵਰਤੇ ਜੁਗ ਸਬਾਏ ॥ sune varate jug sabaae | This Primal Void is pervasive throughout all the ages. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਇਸੁ ਪਦ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥ eis pad veechaare so jan pooraa tis mileeai bharam chukaaeidaa |3| That humble being who contemplates this state is perfect; meeting with him, doubt is dispelled. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਸਪਤ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਥਾਪੇ ॥ sunahu sapat sarovar thaape | From this Primal Void, the seven seas were established. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਜੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ਆਪੇ ॥ jin saaje veechaare aape | The One who created them, Himself contemplates them. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤਿਤੁ ਸਤ ਸਰਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥ tit sat sar manooaa guramukh naavai fir baahurr jon na paaeidaa |4| That human being who becomes Gurmukh, who bathes in the pool of Truth, is not cast into the womb of reincarnation again. ||4|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਚੰਦੁ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਗੈਣਾਰੇ ॥ sunahu chand sooraj gainaare | From this Primal Void, came the moon, the sun and the earth. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸਾਰੇ ॥ tis kee jot tribhavan saare | His Light pervades all the three worlds. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੁੰਨੇ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਸੁੰਨੇ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥ sune alakh apaar niraalam sune taarree laaeidaa |5| The Lord of this Primal Void is unseen, infinite and immaculate; He is absorbed in the Primal Trance of Deep Meditation. ||5|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਧਰਤਿ ਅਕਾਸੁ ਉਪਾਏ ॥ sunahu dharat akaas upaae | From this Primal Void, the earth and the Akaashic Ethers were created. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਥੰਮਾ ਰਾਖੇ ਸਚੁ ਕਲ ਪਾਏ ॥ bin thamaa raakhe sach kal paae | He supports them without any visible support, by exercising His True Power. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸਾਜਿ ਮੇਖੁਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਖਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥ tribhavan saaj mekhulee maaeaa aap upaae khapaaeidaa |6| He fashioned the three worlds, and the rope of Maya; He Himself creates and destroys. ||6|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਖਾਣੀ ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ sunahu khaanee sunahu baanee | From this Primal Void, came the four sources of creation, and the power of speech. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਉਪਜੀ ਸੁੰਨਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥ sunahu upajee sun samaanee | They were created from the Void, and they will merge into the Void. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਉਤਭੁਜੁ ਚਲਤੁ ਕੀਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਦੇਖਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥ autabhuj chalat keea sir karatai bisamaad sabad dekhaaeidaa |7| The Supreme Creator created the play of Nature; through the Word of His Shabad, He stages His Wondrous Show. ||7|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਦੁਇ ਕੀਏ ॥ sunahu raat dinas due kee | From this Primal Void, He made both night and day; - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਓਪਤਿ ਖਪਤਿ ਸੁਖਾ ਦੁਖ ਦੀਏ ॥ opat khapat sukhaa dukh dee | creation and destruction, pleasure and pain. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਅਮਰੁ ਅਤੀਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਜ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥ sukh dukh hee te amar ateetaa guramukh nij ghar paaeidaa |8| The Gurmukh is immortal, untouched by pleasure and pain. He obtains the home of his own inner being. ||8|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
