ਗੰਗਾ ਜਮੁਨਾ ਕੇਲ ਕੇਦਾਰਾ ॥ gangaa jamunaa kel kedaaraa | The Ganges, the Jamunaa where Krishna played, Kaydar Naat’h, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਾਸੀ ਕਾਂਤੀ ਪੁਰੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥ kaasee kaantee puree duaaraa | Benares, Kanchivaram, Puri, Dwaarkaa, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗੰਗਾ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਬੇਣੀ ਸੰਗਮੁ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥ gangaa saagar benee sangam atthasatth ank samaaee he |9| Ganga Saagar where the Ganges empties into the ocean, Trivaynee where the three rivers come together, and the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage, are all merged in the Lord’s Being. ||9|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪੇ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ aape sidh saadhik veechaaree | He Himself is the Siddha, the seeker, in meditative contemplation. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪੇ ਰਾਜਨੁ ਪੰਚਾ ਕਾਰੀ ॥ aape raajan panchaa kaaree | He Himself is the King and the Council. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤਖਤਿ ਬਹੈ ਅਦਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਭੇਦੁ ਭਉ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥ takhat bahai adalee prabh aape bharam bhed bhau jaaee he |10| God Himself, the wise Judge, sits on the throne; He takes away doubt, duality and fear. ||10|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪੇ ਕਾਜੀ ਆਪੇ ਮੁਲਾ ॥ aape kaajee aape mulaa | He Himself is the Qazi; He Himself is the Mullah. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪਿ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਭੁਲਾ ॥ aap abhul na kabahoo bhulaa | He Himself is infallible; He never makes mistakes. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਦਇਆਪਤਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਨਾ ਕਿਸੈ ਕੋ ਬੈਰਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥ aape mihar deaapat daataa naa kisai ko bairaaee he |11| He Himself is the Giver of Grace, compassion and honor; He is no one’s enemy. ||11|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ jis bakhase tis de vaddiaaee | Whoever He forgives, He blesses with glorious greatness. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਭਸੈ ਦਾਤਾ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਈ ॥ sabhasai daataa til na tamaaee | He is the Giver of all; He does not have even an iota of greed. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਭਰਪੁਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਸਭ ਠਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥ bharapur dhaar rahiaa nihakeval gupat pragatt sabh tthaaee he |12| The Immaculate Lord is all pervading, permeating everywhere, both hidden and manifest. ||12|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਿਆ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰੈ ॥ kiaa saalaahee agam apaarai | How can I praise the inaccessible, infinite Lord? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਾਚੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਮੁਰਾਰੈ ॥ saache sirajanahaar muraarai | The True Creator Lord is the Enemy of ego. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮੇਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥ jis no nadar kare tis mele mel milai melaaee he |13| He unites those whom He blesses with His Grace; uniting them in His Union, they are united. ||13|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸੁ ਦੁਆਰੈ ॥ brahamaa bisan mahes duaarai | Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva stand at His Door; - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਊਭੇ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰੈ ॥ aoobhe seveh alakh apaarai | they serve the unseen, infinite Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹੋਰ ਕੇਤੀ ਦਰਿ ਦੀਸੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਦੀ ਮੈ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਕਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥ hor ketee dar deesai bilalaadee mai ganat na aavai kaaee he |14| Millions of others can be seen crying at His door; I cannot even estimate their numbers. ||14|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਾਚੀ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ saachee keerat saachee baanee | True is the Kirtan of His Praise, and True is the Word of His Bani. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹੋਰ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ॥ hor na deesai bed puraanee | I can see no other in the Vedas and the Puraanas. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪੂੰਜੀ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਮੈ ਧਰ ਹੋਰ ਨ ਕਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥ poonjee saach sache gun gaavaa mai dhar hor na kaaee he |15| Truth is my capital; I sing the Glorious Praises of the True Lord. I have no other support at all. ||15|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਸੀ ॥ jug jug saachaa hai bhee hosee | In each and every age, the True Lord is, and shall always be. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਉਣੁ ਨ ਮੂਆ ਕਉਣੁ ਨ ਮਰਸੀ ॥ kaun na mooaa kaun na marasee | Who has not died? Who shall not die? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨੀਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਦਰਿ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੨॥ naanak neech kahai benantee dar dekhahu liv laaee he |16|2| Nanak the lowly offers this prayer; see Him within your own self, and lovingly focus on the Lord. ||16||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਦੂਜੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਅੰਨੀ ਬੋਲੀ ॥ doojee duramat anee bolee | In duality and evil-mindedness, the soul-bride is blind and deaf. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕੀ ਕਚੀ ਚੋਲੀ ॥ kaam krodh kee kachee cholee | She wears the dress of sexual desire and anger. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਘਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਛੋਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ ghar var sehaj na jaanai chhohar bin pir need na paaee he |1| Her Husband Lord is within the home of her own heart, but she does not know Him; without her Husband Lord, she cannot go to sleep. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਜਲੈ ਭੜਕਾਰੇ ॥ antar agan jalai bharrakaare | The great fire of desire blazes within her. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਤਕੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਚਾਰੇ ॥ manamukh take kunddaa chaare | The self-willed manmukh looks around in the four directions. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਕਿਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਾਚੇ ਹਾਥਿ ਵਡਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੨॥ bin satigur seve kiau sukh paaeeai saache haath vaddaaee he |2| Without serving the True Guru, how can she find peace? Glorious greatness rests in the hands of the True Lord. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥ kaam krodh ahankaar nivaare | Eradicating sexual desire, anger and egotism, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤਸਕਰ ਪੰਚ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੰਘਾਰੇ ॥ tasakar panch sabad sanghaare | she destroys the five thieves through the Word of the Shabad. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗਿਆਨ ਖੜਗੁ ਲੈ ਮਨ ਸਿਉ ਲੂਝੈ ਮਨਸਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੩॥ giaan kharrag lai man siau loojhai manasaa maneh samaaee he |3| Taking up the sword of spiritual wisdom, she struggles with her mind, and hope and desire are smoothed over in her mind. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਾ ਕੀ ਰਕਤੁ ਪਿਤਾ ਬਿਦੁ ਧਾਰਾ ॥ maa kee rakat pitaa bid dhaaraa | From the union of the mother’s egg and the father’s sperm, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮੂਰਤਿ ਸੂਰਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਆਪਾਰਾ ॥ moorat soorat kar aapaaraa | the form of infinite beauty has been created. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜੋਤਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਜੇਤੀ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੂ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭ ਠਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥ jot daat jetee sabh teree too karataa sabh tthaaee he |4| The blessings of light all come from You; You are the Creator Lord, pervading everywhere. ||4|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਕੀਆ ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਣਾ ॥ tujh hee keea jaman maranaa | You have created birth and death. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਮਝ ਪੜੀ ਕਿਆ ਡਰਣਾ ॥ gur te samajh parree kiaa ddaranaa | Why should anyone fear, if they come to understand through the Guru? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤੂ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਸਰੀਰਹੁ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥ too deaal deaa kar dekheh dukh darad sareerahu jaaee he |5| When You, O Merciful Lord, look with Your kindness, then pain and suffering leave the body. ||5|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਬੈਸਿ ਰਹੇ ਭਉ ਖਾਇਆ ॥ nij ghar bais rahe bhau khaaeaa | One who sits in the home of his own self, eats his own fears. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਧਾਵਤ ਰਾਖੇ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਇਆ ॥ dhaavat raakhe tthaak rahaaeaa | He quiets and holds his wandering mind still. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਮਲ ਬਿਗਾਸ ਹਰੇ ਸਰ ਸੁਭਰ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੬॥ kamal bigaas hare sar subhar aatam raam sakhaaee he |6| His heart-lotus blossoms forth in the overflowing green pool, and the Lord of his soul becomes his companion and helper. ||6|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਰਣੁ ਲਿਖਾਇ ਮੰਡਲ ਮਹਿ ਆਏ ॥ maran likhaae manddal meh aae | With their death already ordained, mortals come into this world. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਿਉ ਰਹੀਐ ਚਲਣਾ ਪਰਥਾਏ ॥ kiau raheeai chalanaa parathaae | How can they remain here? They have to go to the world beyond. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਚਾ ਅਮਰੁ ਸਚੇ ਅਮਰਾ ਪੁਰਿ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥ sachaa amar sache amaraa pur so sach milai vaddaaee he |7| True is the Lord’s Command; the true ones dwell in the eternal city. The True Lord blesses them with glorious greatness. ||7|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਇਆ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥ aap upaaeaa jagat sabaaeaa | He Himself created the whole world. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਿਨਿ ਸਿਰਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥ jin siriaa tin dhandhai laaeaa | The One who made it, assigns the tasks to it. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
