ਸਾਜਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨ ਕੀ ਹੋਇ ਰਹਾ ਸਦ ਧੂਰਿ ॥ saajan tere charan kee hoe rahaa sad dhoor | O my Friend, I shall forever remain the dust of Your feet. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਹਾਰੀਆ ਪੇਖਉ ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥੧॥ naanak saran tuhaareea pekhau sadaa hajoor |1| Nanak seeks Your protection, and beholds You ever-present, here and now. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਪਿਛਹੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਦੜਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਲੇਹਿ ॥ pichhahu raatee sadarraa naam khasam kaa lehi | Those who receive the call in the last hours of the night, chant the Name of their Lord and Master. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਖੇਮੇ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਸਰਾਇਚੇ ਦਿਸਨਿ ਰਥ ਪੀੜੇ ॥ kheme chhatr saraaeiche disan rath peerre | Tents, canopies, pavilions and carriages are prepared and made ready for them. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਿਨੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਸਦਿ ਮਿਲੇ ॥੧॥ jinee teraa naam dhiaaeaa tin kau sad mile |1| You send out the call, Lord, to those who meditate on Your Name. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬਾਬਾ ਮੈ ਕਰਮਹੀਣ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ॥ baabaa mai karamaheen koorriaar | Father, I am unfortunate, a fraud. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਧਾ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ naam na paaeaa teraa andhaa bharam bhoolaa man meraa |1| rahaau | I have not found Your Name; my mind is blind and deluded by doubt. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਾਦ ਕੀਤੇ ਦੁਖ ਪਰਫੁੜੇ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖੇ ਮਾਇ ॥ saad keete dukh parafurre poorab likhe maae | I have enjoyed the tastes, and now my pains have come to fruition; such is my pre-ordained destiny, O my mother. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੁਖ ਥੋੜੇ ਦੁਖ ਅਗਲੇ ਦੂਖੇ ਦੂਖਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥੨॥ sukh thorre dukh agale dookhe dookh vihaae |2| Now my joys are few, and my pains are many. In utter agony, I pass my life. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਵੀਛੁੜੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਮੇਲੁ ॥ vichhurriaa kaa kiaa veechhurrai miliaa kaa kiaa mel | What separation could be worse than separation from the Lord? For those who are united with Him, what other union can there be? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੋ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਜਿਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਖੇਲੁ ॥੩॥ saahib so saalaaheeai jin kar dekhiaa khel |3| Praise the Lord and Master, who, having created this play, beholds it. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਮੇਲਾਵੜਾ ਇਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਕੀਤੇ ਭੋਗ ॥ sanjogee melaavarraa in tan keete bhog | By good destiny, this union comes about; this body enjoys its pleasures. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਵਿਜੋਗੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਭੀ ਸੰਜੋਗ ॥੪॥੧॥ vijogee mil vichhurre naanak bhee sanjog |4|1| Those who have lost their destiny, suffer separation from this union. O Nanak, they may still be united once again! ||4||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਮਿਲਿ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥ mil maat pitaa pindd kamaaeaa | The union of the mother and father brings the body into being. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤਿਨਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਲੇਖੁ ਲਿਖਾਇਆ ॥ tin karatai lekh likhaaeaa | The Creator inscribes upon it the inscription of its destiny. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਲਿਖੁ ਦਾਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ likh daat jot vaddiaaee | According to this inscription, gifts, light and glorious greatness are received. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਿਲਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥੧॥ mil maaeaa surat gavaaee |1| Joining with Maya, the spiritual consciousness is lost. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨ ਕਾਹੇ ਕਰਸਹਿ ਮਾਣਾ ॥ moorakh man kaahe karaseh maanaa | O foolish mind, why are you so proud? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਉਠਿ ਚਲਣਾ ਖਸਮੈ ਭਾਣਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ autth chalanaa khasamai bhaanaa |1| rahaau | You shall have to arise and depart when it pleases your Lord and Master. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤਜਿ ਸਾਦ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥ taj saad sehaj sukh hoee | Abandon the tastes of the world, and find intuitive peace. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਘਰ ਛਡਣੇ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥ ghar chhaddane rahai na koee | All must abandon their worldly homes; no one remains here forever. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਿਛੁ ਖਾਜੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਧਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥ kichh khaajai kichh dhar jaaeeai | Eat some, and save the rest, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜੇ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਆਈਐ ॥੨॥ je baahurr duneea aaeeai |2| if you are destined to return to the world again. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਜੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਪਟੁ ਹਢਾਏ ॥ saj kaaeaa patt hadtaae | He adorns his body and ress in silk robes. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਫੁਰਮਾਇਸਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਚਲਾਏ ॥ furamaaeis bahut chalaae | He issues all sorts of commands. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਰਿ ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਸੋਵੈ ॥ kar sej sukhaalee sovai | Preparing his comfortable bed, he sleeps. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਥੀ ਪਉਦੀ ਕਾਹੇ ਰੋਵੈ ॥੩॥ hathee paudee kaahe rovai |3| When he falls into the hands of the Messenger of Death, what good does it do to cry out? ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਘਰ ਘੁੰਮਣਵਾਣੀ ਭਾਈ ॥ ghar ghunmanavaanee bhaaee | Household affairs are whirlpools of entanglements, O Siblings of Destiny. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
