ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ raamakalee mahalaa 5 | Raamkalee, Fifth Mehl: - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ੲੰੀਧਨ ਤੇ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਭਾਗੈ ॥ eneedhan te baisantar bhaagai | The fire runs away from the fuel. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਟੀ ਕਉ ਜਲੁ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਤਿਆਗੈ ॥ maattee kau jal deh dis tiaagai | The water runs away from the dust in all directions. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਊਪਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਤਲੈ ਆਕਾਸੁ ॥ aoopar charan talai aakaas | The feet are above, and the sky is beneath. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਘਟ ਮਹਿ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਕੀਓ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥੧॥ ghatt meh sindh keeo paragaas |1| The ocean appears in the cup. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਐਸਾ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਥੁ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਆਪਿ ॥ aisaa samrath har jeeo aap | Such is our all-powerful dear Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਜੀਅ ਭਗਤਨ ਕੈ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਮਨ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਜਾਪਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ nimakh na bisarai jeea bhagatan kai aatth pehar man taa kau jaap |1| rahaau | His devotees do not forget Him, even for an instant. Twenty-four hours a day, O mind, meditate on Him. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਥਮੇ ਮਾਖਨੁ ਪਾਛੈ ਦੂਧੁ ॥ prathame maakhan paachhai doodh | First comes the butter, and then the milk. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੈਲੂ ਕੀਨੋ ਸਾਬੁਨੁ ਸੂਧੁ ॥ mailoo keeno saabun soodh | The dirt cleans the soap. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭੈ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਡਰਤਾ ਫਿਰੈ ॥ bhai te nirbhau ddarataa firai | The fearless are afraid of fear. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹੋਂਦੀ ਕਉ ਅਣਹੋਂਦੀ ਹਿਰੈ ॥੨॥ hondee kau anahondee hirai |2| The living are killed by the dead. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੇਹੀ ਗੁਪਤ ਬਿਦੇਹੀ ਦੀਸੈ ॥ dehee gupat bidehee deesai | The visible body is hidden, and the etheric body is seen. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਗਲੇ ਸਾਜਿ ਕਰਤ ਜਗਦੀਸੈ ॥ sagale saaj karat jagadeesai | The Lord of the world does all these things. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਠਗਣਹਾਰ ਅਣਠਗਦਾ ਠਾਗੈ ॥ tthaganahaar anatthagadaa tthaagai | The one who is cheated, is not cheated by the cheat. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਵਖਰ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਉਠਿ ਲਾਗੈ ॥੩॥ bin vakhar fir fir utth laagai |3| With no merchandise, the trader trades again and again. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਬਖਿਆਣ ॥ sant sabhaa mil karahu bakhiaan | So join the Society of the Saints, and chant the Lord’s Name. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ॥ sinmrit saasat bed puraan | So say the Simritees, Shaastras, Vedas and Puraanas. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ਕੋਇ ॥ braham beechaar beechaare koe | Rare are those who contemplate and meditate on God. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੪੩॥੫੪॥ naanak taa kee param gat hoe |4|43|54| O Nanak, they attain the supreme status. ||4||43||54|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥੀਆ ॥ jo tis bhaavai so theea | Whatever pleases Him happens. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਆਨ ਬੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ sadaa sadaa har kee saranaaee prabh bin naahee aan beea |1| rahaau | Forever and ever, I seek the Sanctuary of the Lord.There is none other than God. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੁਤੁ ਕਲਤ੍ਰੁ ਲਖਿਮੀ ਦੀਸੈ ਇਨ ਮਹਿ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਲੀਆ ॥ put kalatru lakhimee deesai in meh kichhoo na sang leea | You look upon your children, spouse and wealth; none of these will go along with you. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਖੈ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਖਾਇ ਭੁਲਾਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਗਇਆ ॥੧॥ bikhai tthgauree khaae bhulaanaa maaeaa mandar tiaag geaa |1| Eating the poisonous potion, you have gone astray. You will have to go, and leave Maya and your mansions. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਵਿਗੂਤਾ ਗਰਭ ਜੋਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਪਇਆ ॥ nindaa kar kar bahut vigootaa garabh jon meh kirat peaa | Slandering others, you are totally ruined; because of your past actions, you shall be consigned to the womb of reincarnation. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੁਰਬ ਕਮਾਣੇ ਛੋਡਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮਦੂਤਿ ਗ੍ਰਾਸਿਓ ਮਹਾ ਭਇਆ ॥੨॥ purab kamaane chhoddeh naahee jamadoot graasio mahaa bheaa |2| Your past actions will not just go away; the most horrible Messenger of Death shall seize you. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬੋਲੈ ਝੂਠੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਅਵਰਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਹਇਆ ॥ bolai jhootth kamaavai avaraa trisan na boojhai bahut heaa | You tell lies, and do not practice what you preach. Your desires are not satisfied - what a shame. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਸਾਧ ਰੋਗੁ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਸੰਤ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਦੇਹ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਮਹਾ ਖਇਆ ॥੩॥ asaadh rog upajiaa sant dookhan deh binaasee mahaa kheaa |3| You have contracted an incurable disease; slandering the Saints, your body is wasting away; you are utterly ruined. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਨਹਿ ਨਿਵਾਜੇ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਸਾਜੇ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਨੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਇਆ ॥ jineh nivaaje tin hee saaje aape keene sant jeaa | He embellishes those whom He has fashioned. He Himself gave life to the Saints. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ਰਾਖੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਮਇਆ ॥੪॥੪੪॥੫੫॥ naanak daas kantth laae raakhe kar kirapaa paarabraham meaa |4|44|55| O Nanak, He hugs His slaves close in His Embrace. Please grant Your Grace, O Supreme Lord God, and be kind to me as well. ||4||44||55|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਐਸਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰਦੇਉ ਸਹਾਈ ॥ aisaa pooraa guradeo sahaaee | Such is the Perfect Divine Guru, my help and support. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ jaa kaa simaran birathaa na jaaee |1| rahaau | Meditation on Him is not wasted. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਤ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ॥ darasan pekhat hoe nihaal | Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, I am enraptured. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਕਾਟੈ ਜਮ ਜਾਲੁ ॥ jaa kee dhoor kaattai jam jaal | The dust of His feet snaps the noose of Death. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਬਸੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਕੇ ॥ charan kamal base mere man ke | His lotus feet dwell within my mind, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਾਰਜ ਸਵਾਰੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਤਨ ਕੇ ॥੧॥ kaaraj savaare sagale tan ke |1| and so all the affairs of my body are arranged and resolved. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਹਾਥੁ ॥ jaa kai masatak raakhai haath | One upon whom He places His Hand, is protected. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰੋ ਅਨਾਥ ਕੋ ਨਾਥੁ ॥ prabh mero anaath ko naath | My God is the Master of the masterless. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਣੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥ patit udhaaran kripaa nidhaan | He is the Savior of sinners, the treasure of mercy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਜਾਈਐ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ॥੨॥ sadaa sadaa jaaeeai kurabaan |2| Forever and ever, I am a sacrifice to Him. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮੰਤੁ ਦੇਇ ਜਿਸੁ ਦਾਨੁ ॥ niramal mant dee jis daan | One whom He blesses with His Immaculate Mantra, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਜਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥ tajeh bikaar binasai abhimaan | renounces corruption; his egotistical pride is dispelled. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥ ek dhiaaeeai saadh kai sang | Meditate on the One Lord in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਾਪ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੩॥ paap binaase naam kai rang |3| Sins are erased, through the love of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥ gur paramesur sagal nivaas | The Guru, the Transcendent Lord, dwells among all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਗੁਣਤਾਸ ॥ ghatt ghatt rav rahiaa gunataas | The treasure of virtue pervades and permeates each and every heart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਰਸੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਧਾਰਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਸ ॥ daras dehi dhaarau prabh aas | Please grant me the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਿਤ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਸਚੁ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੪੫॥੫੬॥ nit naanak chitavai sach aradaas |4|45|56| O God, I place my hopes in You. Nanak continually offers this true prayer. ||4||45||56|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
