ਓੁਂ ਨਮੋ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥ oun namo bhagavant gusaaee | I humbly pray to invoke the Universal Lord God, the Lord of the World. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਖਾਲਕੁ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਰਬ ਠਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ khaalak rav rahiaa sarab tthaaee |1| rahaau | The Creator Lord is all-pervading, everywhere. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਗੰਨਾਥ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਮਾਧੋ ॥ jaganaath jagajeevan maadho | He is the Lord of the Universe, the Life of the World. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਉ ਭੰਜਨ ਰਿਦ ਮਾਹਿ ਅਰਾਧੋ ॥ bhau bhanjan rid maeh araadho | Within your heart, worship and adore the Destroyer of fear. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਿਖੀਕੇਸ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਗੋੁਵਿੰਦ ॥ rikheekes gopaal guovind | The Master Rishi of the senses, Lord of the World, Lord of the Universe. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੂਰਨ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਮੁਕੰਦ ॥੨॥ pooran sarabatr mukand |2| He is perfect, ever-present everywhere, the Liberator. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਮਉਲਾ ਤੂਹੀ ਏਕ ॥ miharavaan maulaa toohee ek | You are the One and only merciful Master, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੀਰ ਪੈਕਾਂਬਰ ਸੇਖ ॥ peer paikaanbar sekh | spiritual teacher, prophet, religious teacher. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਿਲਾ ਕਾ ਮਾਲਕੁ ਕਰੇ ਹਾਕੁ ॥ dilaa kaa maalak kare haak | Master of hearts, Dispenser of justice, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੁਰਾਨ ਕਤੇਬ ਤੇ ਪਾਕੁ ॥੩॥ kuraan kateb te paak |3| more sacred than the Koran and the Bible. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਨਰਹਰ ਦਇਆਲ ॥ naaraaein narahar deaal | The Lord is powerful and merciful. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਮਤ ਰਾਮ ਘਟ ਘਟ ਆਧਾਰ ॥ ramat raam ghatt ghatt aadhaar | The all-pervading Lord is the support of each and every heart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਾਸੁਦੇਵ ਬਸਤ ਸਭ ਠਾਇ ॥ baasudev basat sabh tthaae | The luminous Lord dwells everywhere. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਲੀਲਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਲਖੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੪॥ leelaa kichh lakhee na jaae |4| His play cannot be known. ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਿਹਰ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਨੈਹਾਰ ॥ mihar deaa kar karanaihaar | Be kind and compassionate to me, O Creator Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਗਤਿ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਦੇਹਿ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ॥ bhagat bandagee dehi sirajanahaar | Bless me with devotion and meditation, O Lord Creator. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਖੋਏ ਭਰਮ ॥ kahu naanak gur khoe bharam | Says Nanak, the Guru has rid me of doubt. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਏਕੋ ਅਲਹੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ॥੫॥੩੪॥੪੫॥ eko alahu paarabraham |5|34|45| The Muslim God Allah and the Hindu God Paarbrahm are one and the same. ||5||34||45|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੰਤਾਪ ॥ har har japat naahee santaap | Meditating on the Lord, Har, Har, pain will not afflict you. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੇ ॥ gur ke charan kamal man vase | When the Lord’s lotus feet are enshrined in the mind, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਹਾ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਸਭਿ ਨਸੇ ॥੧॥ mahaa bikaar tan te sabh nase |1| all terrible evils are taken away from the body. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੋਪਾਲ ਕੋ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ॥ gopaal ko jas gaau praanee | Sing the Praise of the Lord of the World, O mortal being. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਸਾਚੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੂਰਨ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ akath kathaa saachee prabh pooran jotee jot samaanee |1| rahaau | The Unspoken Speech of the True Lord God is perfect. Dwelling upon it, one’s light merges into the Light. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੂਖ ਸਭ ਨਾਸੀ ॥ trisanaa bhookh sabh naasee | Hunger and thirst are totally quenched; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਜਪਿਆ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥ sant prasaad japiaa abinaasee | by the Grace of the Saints, meditate on the immortal Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰੈਨਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੇਵ ਕਮਾਨੀ ॥ rain dinas prabh sev kamaanee | Night and day, serve God. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਣੈ ਕੀ ਏਹ ਨੀਸਾਨੀ ॥੨॥ har milanai kee eeh neesaanee |2| This is the sign that one has met with the Lord. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਿਟੇ ਜੰਜਾਲ ਹੋਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਇਆਲ ॥ mitte janjaal hoe prabh deaal | Worldly entanglements are ended, when God becomes merciful. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥ gur kaa darasan dekh nihaal | Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of the Guru’s Darshan, I am enraptured. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਰਾ ਪੂਰਬਲਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਬਣਿ ਆਇਆ ॥ paraa poorabalaa karam ban aaeaa | My perfect pre-destined karma has been activated. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਤ ਰਸਨਾ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ har ke gun nit rasanaa gaaeaa |3| With my tongue, I continually sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੰਤ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥ har ke sant sadaa paravaan | The Saints of the Lord are accepted and approved forever. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥ sant janaa masatak neesaan | The foreheads of the Saintly people are marked with the Lord’s insignia. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਾਸ ਕੀ ਰੇਣੁ ਪਾਏ ਜੇ ਕੋਇ ॥ daas kee ren paae je koe | One who is blessed with the dust of the feet of the Lord’s slave, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੩੫॥੪੬॥ naanak tis kee param gat hoe |4|35|46| O Nanak, obtains the supreme status. ||4||35||46|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਧਰਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥ charan kamal hiradai dhar dhiaan | Focus your heart’s meditation on the Lord’s lotus feet. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਧੂਰਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਾਇ ॥ dhoor santan kee masatak laae | Apply the dust of the feet of the Saints to your forehead, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਲੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ janam janam kee duramat mal jaae |1| and the filthy evil-mindedness of countless incarnations will be washed off. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਭੇਟਤ ਮਿਟੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥ jis bhettat mittai abhimaan | Meeting Him, egotistical pride is eradicated, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸਭੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਵੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ paarabraham sabh nadaree aavai kar kirapaa pooran bhagavaan |1| rahaau | and you will come to see the Supreme Lord God in all. The Perfect Lord God has showered His Mercy. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥ gur kee keerat japeeai har naau | This is the Guru’s Praise, to chant the Name of the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥ gur kee bhagat sadaa gun gaau | This is devotion to the Guru, to sing forever the Glorious Praises of the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨੁ ॥ gur kee surat nikatt kar jaan | This is contemplation upon the Guru, to know that the Lord is close at hand. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੨॥ gur kaa sabad sat kar maan |2| Accept the Word of the Guru’s Shabad as Truth. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਸੁਖ ਦੂਖ ॥ gur bachanee samasar sukh dookh | Through the Word of the Guru’s Teachings, look upon pleasure and pain as one and the same. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਦੇ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੂਖ ॥ kade na biaapai trisanaa bhookh | Hunger and thirst shall never afflict you. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਗੁਰ ਰਾਜੇ ॥ man santokh sabad gur raaje | The mind becomes content and satisfied through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਪਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਪੜਦੇ ਸਭਿ ਕਾਜੇ ॥੩॥ jap gobind parrade sabh kaaje |3| Meditate on the Lord of the Universe, and He will cover all your faults. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ॥ gur paramesar gur govind | The Guru is the Supreme Lord God; the Guru is the Lord of the Universe. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਦਇਆਲ ਬਖਸਿੰਦੁ ॥ gur daataa deaal bakhasind | The Guru is the Great Giver, merciful and forgiving. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨੀ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ gur charanee jaa kaa man laagaa | One whose mind is attached to the Guru’s feet, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤਿਸੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਾਗਾ ॥੪॥੩੬॥੪੭॥ naanak daas tis pooran bhaagaa |4|36|47| O slave Nanak, is blessed with perfect destiny. ||4||36||47|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
