ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਅ ਬਿਵਸਥਾ ਸਿੰਚੇ ਮਾਇ ॥ triteea bivasathaa sinche maae | In the third stage of life, he gathers the wealth of Maya. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਰਧਿ ਭਇਆ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲਿਓ ਪਛੁਤਾਇ ॥੨॥ biradh bheaa chhodd chalio pachhutaae |2| And when he grows old, he must leave all this; he departs regretting and repenting. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਿਰੰਕਾਲ ਪਾਈ ਦ੍ਰੁਲਭ ਦੇਹ ॥ chirankaal paaee drulabh deh | After a very long time, one obtains this precious human body, so difficult to obtain. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਖੇਹ ॥ naam bihoonee hoee kheh | Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, it is reduced to dust. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਸੂ ਪਰੇਤ ਮੁਗਧ ਤੇ ਬੁਰੀ ॥ pasoo paret mugadh te buree | Worse than a beast, a demon or an idiot, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਏਹ ਸਿਰੀ ॥੩॥ tiseh na boojhai jin eeh siree |3| is that one who does not understand who created him. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੁਣਿ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥ sun karataar govind gopaal | Listen, O Creator Lord, Lord of the Universe, Lord of the World, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਸਦਾ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥ deen deaal sadaa kirapaal | Merciful to the meek, forever compassionate - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੁਮਹਿ ਛਡਾਵਹੁ ਛੁਟਕਹਿ ਬੰਧ ॥ tumeh chhaddaavahu chhuttakeh bandh | If You emancipate the human, then his bonds are broken. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਗ ਅੰਧ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੨੩॥ bakhas milaavahu naanak jag andh |4|12|23| O Nanak, the people of world are blind; please, Lord, forgive them, and unite them with Yourself. ||4||12||23|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਕਰਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ਬਨਾਈ ਕਾਛਿ ॥ kar sanjog banaaee kaachh | Joining the elements together, the robe of the body is fashioned. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਸੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਇਆਨਾ ਰਾਚਿ ॥ tis sang rahio eaanaa raach | The ignorant fool is engrossed in it. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰੈ ਨਿਤ ਸਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਰੈ ॥ pratipaarai nit saar samaarai | He cherishes it, and constantly takes care of it. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਬਾਰ ਊਠਿ ਸਿਧਾਰੈ ॥੧॥ ant kee baar aootth sidhaarai |1| But at the very last moment, he must arise and depart. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਭੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥ naam binaa sabh jhootth paraanee | Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, everything is false, O mortal. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੋਵਿਦ ਭਜਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਤੇ ਸਭਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੂਠੁ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ govid bhajan bin avar sang raate te sabh maaeaa mootth paraanee |1| rahaau | Those who do not vibrate and meditate on the Lord of the Universe, but instead are imbued with other things, - all those mortals are plundered by Maya. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਇ ਨ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਮੈਲੁ ॥ teerath naae na utaras mail | Bathing at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, filth is not washed off. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸਭਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਫੈਲੁ ॥ karam dharam sabh haumai fail | Religious rituals are all just egotistical displays. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਲੋਕ ਪਚਾਰੈ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਹੋਇ ॥ lok pachaarai gat nahee hoe | By pleasing and appeasing people, no one is saved. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣੇ ਚਲਸਹਿ ਰੋਇ ॥੨॥ naam bihoone chalaseh roe |2| Without the Naam, they shall depart weeping. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨ ਟੂਟਸਿ ਪਟਲ ॥ bin har naam na ttoottas pattal | Without the Lord’s Name, the screen is not torn away. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋਧੇ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਗਲ ॥ sodhe saasatr simrit sagal | I have studied all the Shaastras and Simritees. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਜਪਾਏ ॥ so naam japai jis aap japaae | He alone chants the Naam, whom the Lord Himself inspires to chant. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਗਲ ਫਲਾ ਸੇ ਸੂਖਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੩॥ sagal falaa se sookh samaae |3| He obtains all fruits and rewards, and merges in peace. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰੇ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਆਪਿ ॥ raakhanahaare raakhahu aap | O Savior Lord, please save me! - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਗਲ ਸੁਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮਰੈ ਹਾਥਿ ॥ sagal sukhaa prabh tumarai haath | All peace and comforts are in Your Hand, God. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਗਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥ jit laaveh tith laagah suaamee | Whatever you attach me to, to that I am attached, O my Lord and Master. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੨੪॥ naanak saahib antarajaamee |4|13|24| O Nanak, the Lord is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ||4||13||24|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾਨਾ ॥ jo kichh karai soee sukh jaanaa | Whatever He does makes me happy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨੁ ਅਸਮਝੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਤੀਆਨਾ ॥ man asamajh saadhasang pateeaanaa | The ignorant mind is encouraged, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਡੋਲਨ ਤੇ ਚੂਕਾ ਠਹਰਾਇਆ ॥ ddolan te chookaa tthaharaaeaa | Now, it does not waver at all; it has become stable and steady. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਤਿ ਮਾਹਿ ਲੇ ਸਤਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ sat maeh le sat samaaeaa |1| Receiving Truth, it is merged in the True Lord. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੂਖੁ ਗਇਆ ਸਭੁ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਇਆ ॥ dookh geaa sabh rog geaa | Pain is gone, and all illness is gone. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਨੀ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਭਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ prabh kee aagiaa man meh maanee mahaa purakh kaa sang bheaa |1| rahaau | I have accepted the Will of God in my mind, associating with the Great Person, the Guru. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਗਲ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ॥ sagal pavitr sarab niramalaa | All is pure; all is immaculate. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਵਰਤਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਭਲਾ ॥ jo varataae soee bhalaa | Whatever exists is good. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਹ ਰਾਖੈ ਸੋਈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਥਾਨੁ ॥ jeh raakhai soee mukat thaan | Wherever He keeps me, that is the place of liberation for me. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਜਪਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੨॥ jo japaae soee naam |2| Whatever He makes me chant, is His Name. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਜਹ ਸਾਧ ਪਗ ਧਰਹਿ ॥ atthasatth teerath jeh saadh pag dhareh | That is the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage, where the Holy place their feet, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਹ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੁ ਜਹ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਰਹਿ ॥ teh baikuntth jeh naam uchareh | and that is heaven, where the Naam is chanted. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਰਬ ਅਨੰਦ ਜਬ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ sarab anand jab darasan paaeeai | All bliss comes, when one obtains the Blessed Vision of the Lord’s Darshan. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਾਮ ਗੁਣਾ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੩॥ raam gunaa nit nit har gaaeeai |3| I sing continuously, continually, the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਪੇ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਬਿਆਪਿ ॥ aape ghatt ghatt rahiaa biaap | The Lord Himself is pervading in each and every heart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਇਆਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਰਗਟ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥ deaal purakh paragatt parataap | The glory of the Merciful Lord is radiant and manifest. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਪਟ ਖੁਲਾਨੇ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਨਾਠੇ ਦੂਰੇ ॥ kapatt khulaane bhram naatthe doore | The shutters are opened, and doubts have run away. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਪੂਰੇ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੨੫॥ naanak kau gur bhette poore |4|14|25| Nanak has met with the Perfect Guru. ||4||14||25|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਰਿਧਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਸੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ॥ ridh budh sidh sur giaan | along with wealth, wisdom, miraculous spiritual powers and angelic spiritual insight. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਨਿਕ ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗ ਭੋਗ ਰਸੈ ॥ anik roop rang bhog rasai | He enjoys the various shows and forms, pleasures and delicacies; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਮਖ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸੈ ॥੧॥ guramukh naam nimakh ridai vasai |1| the Naam, the Name of the Lord, dwells within the heart of the Gurmukh. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ har ke naam kee vaddiaaee | Such is the glorious greatness of the Name of the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
