ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਖਣੁ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ guramukh vekhan bolanaa naam japat sukh paaeaa | The Gurmukh beholds and speaks the Naam, the Name of the Lord; chanting the Naam, he finds peace. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਤਿਮਰ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ naanak guramukh giaan pragaasiaa timar agiaan andher chukaaeaa |2| O Nanak, the spiritual wisdom of the Gurmukh shines forth; the black darkness of ignorance is dispelled. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੈਲੇ ਮਰਹਿ ਗਵਾਰ ॥ manamukh maile mareh gavaar | The filthy, foolish, self-willed manmukhs die. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ guramukh niramal har raakhiaa ur dhaar | The Gurmukhs are immaculate and pure; they keep the Lord enshrined within their hearts. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਭਨਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਜਨ ਭਾਈ ॥ bhanat naanak sunahu jan bhaaee | Prays Nanak, listen, O Siblings of Destiny! - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਲੁ ਜਾਈ ॥ satigur sevihu haumai mal jaaee | Serve the True Guru, and the filth of your ego shall be gone. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸੰਸਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਧੰਧਾ ਨਿਤ ਮਾਰ ॥ andar sansaa dookh viaape sir dhandhaa nit maar | Deep within, the pain of skepticism afflicts them; their heads are constantly assaulted by worldly entanglements. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਸੂਤੇ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਜਾਗਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਰ ॥ doojai bhaae soote kabahu na jaageh maaeaa moh piaar | Asleep in the love of duality, they never wake up; they are attached to the love of Maya. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਵੀਚਾਰਹਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਾ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥ naam na cheteh sabad na veechaareh ihu manamukh kaa beechaar | They do not remember the Name, and they do not contemplate the Word of the Shabad; this is the view of the self-willed manmukhs. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਭਾਇਆ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰ ॥੩॥ har naam na bhaaeaa birathaa janam gavaaeaa naanak jam maar kare khuaar |3| They do not love the Lord’s Name, and they lose their life uselessly. O Nanak, the Messenger of Death attacks them, and humiliates them. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਪਉੜੀ ॥ paurree | Pauree: - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਬਖਸੀਅਨੁ ਸੋ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹੁ ॥ jis no har bhagat sach bakhaseean so sachaa saahu | He alone is a true king, whom the Lord blesses with true devotion. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਮੁਹਤਾਜੀ ਲੋਕੁ ਕਢਦਾ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਹਟਿ ਨ ਵਥੁ ਨ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ॥ tis kee muhataajee lok kadtadaa horat hatt na vath na vesaahu | People pledge their allegiance to him; no other store stocks this merchandise, nor deals in this trade. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਸਨਮੁਖੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਸਿ ਲਏ ਵੇਮੁਖ ਭਸੁ ਪਾਹੁ ॥ bhagat janaa kau sanamukh hovai su har raas le vemukh bhas paahu | That humble devotee who turns his face towards the Guru and becomes sunmukh, receives the Lord’s wealth; the faithless baymukh, who turns his face away from the Guru, gathers only ashes. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤ ਹਹਿ ਜਮੁ ਜਾਗਾਤੀ ਤਿਨਾ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਜਾਹੁ ॥ har ke naam ke vaapaaree har bhagat heh jam jaagaatee tinaa nerr na jaahu | The Lord’s devotees are dealers in the Name of the Lord. The Messenger of Death, the tax-collector, does not even approach them. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਲਦਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥੭॥ jan naanak har naam dhan ladiaa sadaa veparavaahu |7| Servant Nanak has loaded the wealth of the Name of the Lord, who is forever independent and care-free. ||7|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਖਟਿਆ ਹੋਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥ eis jug meh bhagatee har dhan khattiaa hor sabh jagat bharam bhulaaeaa | In this age, the devotee earns the wealth of the Lord; all the rest of the world wanders deluded in doubt. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥ gur parasaadee naam man vasiaa anadin naam dhiaaeaa | By Guru’s Grace, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to dwell in his mind; night and day, he meditates on the Naam. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਦਾਸ ਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇਆ ॥ bikhiaa maeh udaas hai haumai sabad jalaaeaa | In the midst of corruption, he remains detached; through the Word of the Shabad, he burns away his ego. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪਿ ਤਰਿਆ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਰੇ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਣੇਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ aap tariaa kul udhare dhan janedee maaeaa | He crosses over, and saves his relatives as well; blessed is the mother who gave birth to him. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਦਾ ਸਹਜੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇਆ ॥ sadaa sehaj sukh man vasiaa sache siau liv laaeaa | Peace and poise fill his mind forever, and he embraces love for the True Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹਾਦੇਉ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਭੁਲੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥ brahamaa bisan mahaadeo trai gun bhule haumai mohu vadhaaeaa | Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva wander in the three qualities, while their egotism and desire increase. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਮੋਨੀ ਭੁਲੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥ panddit parr parr monee bhule doojai bhaae chit laaeaa | The Pandits, the religious scholars and the silent sages read and debate in confusion; their consciousness is centered on the love of duality. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਭੁਲੇ ਵਿਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਤਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ jogee jangam saniaasee bhule vin gur tat na paaeaa | The Yogis, wandering pilgrims and Sanyaasees are deluded; without the Guru, they do not find the essence of reality. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦੁਖੀਏ ਸਦਾ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੇ ਤਿਨੑੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ manamukh dukhee sadaa bhram bhule tinaee birathaa janam gavaaeaa | The miserable self-willed manmukhs are forever deluded by doubt; they waste away their lives uselessly. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇਈ ਜਨ ਸਮਧੇ ਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ naanak naam rate seee jan samadhe ji aape bakhas milaaeaa |1| O Nanak, those who are imbued with the Naam are balanced and poised; forgiving them, the Lord blends them with Himself. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਜਿਸੁ ਵਸਿ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ naanak so saalaaheeai jis vas sabh kichh hoe | O Nanak, praise Him, who has control over everything. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਤਿਸਹਿ ਸਰੇਵਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਹੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ tiseh sarevahu praaneeho tis bin avar na koe | Remember Him, O mortals - without Him, there is no other at all. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥ guramukh antar man vasai sadaa sadaa sukh hoe |2| He dwells deep within those who are Gurmukh; forever and ever, they are at peace. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਪਉੜੀ ॥ paurree | Pauree: - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਜਿਨੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਨ ਖਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਦੇਵਾਲੀਏ ਜੁਗ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ jinee guramukh har naam dhan na khattio se devaalee jug maeh | Those who do not become Gurmukh and earn the wealth of the Lord’s Name, are bankrupt in this age. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਓਇ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸਭ ਜਗਤ ਮਹਿ ਕੋਈ ਮੁਹਿ ਥੁਕ ਨ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਪਾਹਿ ॥ oe mangade fireh sabh jagat meh koee muhi thuk na tin kau paeh | They wander around begging all over the world, but no one even spits in their faces. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਪਰਾਈ ਬਖੀਲੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਖੋਵਨਿ ਸਗਵਾ ਭੀ ਆਪੁ ਲਖਾਹਿ ॥ paraaee bakheelee kareh aapanee parateet khovan sagavaa bhee aap lakhaeh | They gossip about others, and lose their credit, and expose themselves as well. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਜਿਸੁ ਧਨ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਚੁਗਲੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਚੁਗਲੀ ਹਥਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਓਇ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਥੈ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ jis dhan kaaran chugalee kareh so dhan chugalee hath na aavai oe bhaavai tithai jaeh | That wealth, for which they slander others, does not come into their hands, no matter where they go. - Guru Ramdas Ji
