ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ ॥ manamukh agiaanee andhule janam mareh fir aavai jaae | The ignorant self-willed manmukhs are blind. They are born, only to die again, and continue coming and going. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਾਰਜ ਸਿਧਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਨੀ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਏ ॥ kaaraj sidh na hovanee ant geaa pachhutaae | Their affairs are not resolved, and in the end, they depart, regretting and repenting. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥ jis karam hovai tis satigur milai so har har naam dhiaae | One who is blessed with the Lord’s Grace, meets the True Guru; he alone meditates on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਜਨ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਨਿੑ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਏ ॥੧॥ naam rate jan sadaa sukh paaeina jan naanak tin bal jaae |1| Imbued with the Naam, the humble servants of the Lord find a lasting peace; servant Nanak is a sacrifice to them. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਜਗਿ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥ aasaa manasaa jag mohanee jin mohiaa sansaar | Hope and desire entice the world; they entice the whole universe. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਜਮ ਕੇ ਚੀਰੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਹੈ ਜੇਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਆਕਾਰੁ ॥ sabh ko jam ke cheere vich hai jetaa sabh aakaar | Everyone, and all that has been created, is under the domination of Death. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੀ ਜਮੁ ਲਗਦਾ ਸੋ ਉਬਰੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੈ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥ hukamee hee jam lagadaa so ubarai jis bakhasai karataar | By the Hukam of the Lord’s Command, Death seizes the mortal; he alone is saved, whom the Creator Lord forgives. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਏਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਤਾਂ ਤਰੈ ਜਾ ਛੋਡੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥ naanak gur parasaadee ehu man taan tarai jaa chhoddai ahankaar | O Nanak, by Guru’s Grace, this mortal swims across, if he abandons his ego. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਮਾਰੇ ਨਿਰਾਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ aasaa manasaa maare niraas hoe gurasabadee veechaar |2| Conquer hope and desire, and remain unattached; contemplate the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜਿਥੈ ਜਾਈਐ ਜਗਤ ਮਹਿ ਤਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਈ ॥ jithai jaaeeai jagat meh tithai har saaee | Wherever I go in this world, I see the Lord there. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਅਗੈ ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਨਿਆਈ ॥ agai sabh aape varatadaa har sachaa niaaee | In the world hereafter as well, the Lord, the True Judge Himself, is pervading and permeating everywhere. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਕੂੜਿਆਰਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਹ ਫਿਟਕੀਅਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ koorriaaraa ke muh fittakeeeh sach bhagat vaddiaaee | The faces of the false are cursed, while the true devotees are blessed with glorious greatness. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਚੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚਾ ਨਿਆਉ ਹੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਛਾਈ ॥ sach saahib sachaa niaau hai sir nindak chhaaee | True is the Lord and Master, and true is His justice. The heads of the slanderers are covered with ashes. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੫॥ jan naanak sach araadhiaa guramukh sukh paaee |5| Servant Nanak worships the True Lord in adoration; as Gurmukh, he finds peace. ||5|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਖਸ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ poorai bhaag satigur paaeeai je har prabh bakhas karee | By perfect destiny, one finds the True Guru, if the Lord God grants forgiveness. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਓਪਾਵਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਓਪਾਉ ਹੈ ਨਾਉ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ opaavaa sir opaau hai naau paraapat hoe | Of all efforts, the best effort is to attain the Lord’s Name. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਦਰੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ andar seetal saant hai hiradai sadaa sukh hoe | It brings a cooling, soothing tranquility deep within the heart, and eternal peace. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਪੈਨੑਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ amrit khaanaa painanaa naanak naae vaddiaaee hoe |1| Then, one eats and wears the Ambrosial Nectar; O Nanak, through the Name, comes glorious greatness. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਏ ਮਨ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਿਖ ਸੁਣਿ ਪਾਇਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥ e man gur kee sikh sun paaeihi gunee nidhaan | O mind, listening to the Guru’s Teachings, you shall obtain the treasure of virtue. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥ sukhadaataa terai man vasai haumai jaae abhimaan | The Giver of peace shall dwell in your mind; you shall be rid of egotism and pride. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੨॥ naanak nadaree paaeeai amrit gunee nidhaan |2| O Nanak, by His Grace, one is blessed with the Ambrosial Nectar of the treasure of virtue. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜਿਤਨੇ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਸਾਹ ਰਾਜੇ ਖਾਨ ਉਮਰਾਵ ਸਿਕਦਾਰ ਹਹਿ ਤਿਤਨੇ ਸਭਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਕੀਏ ॥ jitane paatisaah saah raaje khaan umaraav sikadaar heh titane sabh har ke kee | The kings, emperors, rulers, lords, nobles and chiefs, are all created by the Lord. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਓਇ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਅਰਥੀਏ ॥ jo kichh har karaavai su oe kareh sabh har ke arathee | Whatever the Lord causes them to do, they do; they are all beggars, dependent on the Lord. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਵਲਿ ਹੈ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਭਿ ਵਰਨ ਚਾਰੇ ਖਾਣੀ ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਗੋਲੇ ਕਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਗੈ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣ ਕਉ ਦੀਏ ॥ so aisaa har sabhanaa kaa prabh satigur kai val hai tin sabh varan chaare khaanee sabh srisatt gole kar satigur agai kaar kamaavan kau dee | Such is God, the Lord of all; He is on the True Guru’s side. All castes and social classes, the four sources of creation, and the whole universe are slaves of the True Guru; God makes them work for Him. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵੇ ਕੀ ਐਸੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਨਗਰੀ ਦੁਸਮਨ ਦੂਤ ਸਭਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਢੀਏ ॥ har seve kee aisee vaddiaaee dekhahu har santahu jin vichahu kaaeaa nagaree dusaman doot sabh maar kadtee | See the glorious greatness of serving the Lord, O Saints of the Lord; He has conquered and driven all the enemies and evil-doers out of the body-village. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਉਪਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਰਖਿ ਲੀਏ ॥੬॥ har har kirapaal hoaa bhagat janaa upar har aapanee kirapaa kar har aap rakh lee |6| The Lord, Har, Har, is Merciful to His humble devotees; granting His Grace, the Lord Himself protects and preserves them. ||6|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ andar kapatt sadaa dukh hai manamukh dhiaan na laagai | Fraud and hypocrisy within bring constant pain; the self-willed manmukh does not practice meditation. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੁਖ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਆਗੈ ॥ dukh vich kaar kamaavanee dukh varatai dukh aagai | Suffering in pain, he does his deeds; he is immersed in pain, and he shall suffer in pain hereafter. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਰਮੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੀਐ ਤਾ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ karamee satigur bhetteeai taa sach naam liv laagai | By his karma, he meets the True Guru, and then, he is lovingly attuned to the True Name. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ naanak sahaje sukh hoe andarahu bhram bhau bhaagai |1| O Nanak, he is naturally at peace; doubt and fear run away and leave him. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥ guramukh sadaa har rang hai har kaa naau man bhaaeaa | The Gurmukh is in love with the Lord forever. The Name of the Lord is pleasing to his mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
