ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਲੇਹੁ ਲੜਿ ਲਾਇ ॥ kar deaa lehu larr laae | Be Merciful, and attach me to the hem of Your robe. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੧॥ naanakaa naam dhiaae |1| Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਦਇਆਲ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਦਇਆਲ ॥ deenaa naath deaal mere suaamee deenaa naath deaal | O Merciful Master of the meek, You are my Lord and Master, O Merciful Master of the meek. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਚਉ ਸੰਤ ਰਵਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ jaachau sant ravaal |1| rahaau | I yearn for the dust of the feet of the Saints. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕੂਪ ॥ sansaar bikhiaa koop | The world is a pit of poison, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਮ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਮੋਹਤ ਘੂਪ ॥ tam agiaan mohat ghoop | filled with the utter darkness of ignorance and emotional attachment. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗਹਿ ਭੁਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਲੇਹੁ ॥ geh bhujaa prabh jee lehu | Please take my hand, and save me, Dear God. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਦੇਹੁ ॥ har naam apunaa dehu | Please bless me with Your Name, Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਠਾਉ ॥ prabh tujh binaa nahee tthaau | Without You, God, I have no place at all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕਾ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੨॥ naanakaa bal bal jaau |2| Nanak is a sacrifice, a sacrifice to You. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਾਧੀ ਦੇਹ ॥ lobh mohi baadhee deh | The human body is in the grip of greed and attachment. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਭਜਨ ਹੋਵਤ ਖੇਹ ॥ bin bhajan hovat kheh | Without meditating and vibrating upon the Lord, it is reduced to ashes. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਮਦੂਤ ਮਹਾ ਭਇਆਨ ॥ jamadoot mahaa bheaan | The Messenger of Death is dreadful and horrible. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਿਤ ਗੁਪਤ ਕਰਮਹਿ ਜਾਨ ॥ chit gupat karameh jaan | The recording scribes of the conscious and the unconscious, Chitr and Gupt, know all actions and karma. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਸਾਖਿ ਸੁਨਾਇ ॥ din rain saakh sunaae | Day and night, they bear witness. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਨਾਇ ॥੩॥ naanakaa har saranaae |3| Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨਾ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥ bhai bhanjanaa muraar | O Lord, Destroyer of fear and egotism, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਿ ॥ kar deaa patit udhaar | be merciful, and save the sinners. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੇਰੇ ਦੋਖ ਗਨੇ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ mere dokh gane na jaeh | My sins cannot even be counted. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਤਹਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥ har binaa kateh samaeh | Without the Lord, who can hide them? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗਹਿ ਓਟ ਚਿਤਵੀ ਨਾਥ ॥ geh ott chitavee naath | I thought of Your Support, and seized it, O my Lord and Master. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕਾ ਦੇ ਰਖੁ ਹਾਥ ॥੪॥ naanakaa de rakh haath |4| Please, give Nanak Your hand and save him, Lord! ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥ har gun nidhe gopaal | The Lord, the treasure of virtue, the Lord of the world, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਰਬ ਘਟ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥ sarab ghatt pratipaal | cherishes and and sustains every heart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਪਿਆਸ ॥ man preet darasan piaas | My mind is thirsty for Your Love, and the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸ ॥ gobind pooran aas | O Lord of the Universe, please fulfill my hopes. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ eik nimakh rehan na jaae | I cannot survive, even for an instant. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਵਡ ਭਾਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇ ॥੫॥ vadd bhaag naanak paae |5| By great good fortune, Nanak has found the Lord. ||5|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਹੋਰ ॥ prabh tujh binaa nahee hor | Without You, God, there is no other at all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਚੰਦ ਚਕੋਰ ॥ man preet chand chakor | My mind loves You, as the partridge loves the moon, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਮੀਨ ਜਲ ਸਿਉ ਹੇਤੁ ॥ jiau meen jal siau het | as the fish loves the water, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਲਿ ਕਮਲ ਭਿੰਨੁ ਨ ਭੇਤੁ ॥ al kamal bhin na bhet | as the bee and the lotus cannot be separated. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਚਕਵੀ ਸੂਰਜ ਆਸ ॥ jiau chakavee sooraj aas | As the chakvi bird longs for the sun, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਚਰਨ ਪਿਆਸ ॥੬॥ naanak charan piaas |6| so does Nanak thirst for the Lord’s feet. ||6|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਤਰੁਨਿ ਭਰਤ ਪਰਾਨ ॥ jiau tarun bharat paraan | As the young bride places the hopes of her life in her husband, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਲੋਭੀਐ ਧਨੁ ਦਾਨੁ ॥ jiau lobheeai dhan daan | as the greedy person looks upon the gift of wealth, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਦੂਧ ਜਲਹਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥ jiau doodh jaleh sanjog | as milk is joined to water, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਮਹਾ ਖੁਧਿਆਰਥ ਭੋਗੁ ॥ jiau mahaa khudhiaarath bhog | as food is to the very hungry man, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਮਾਤ ਪੂਤਹਿ ਹੇਤੁ ॥ jiau maat pooteh het | and as the mother loves her son, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇਤ ॥੭॥ har simar naanak net |7| so does Nanak constantly remember the Lord in meditation. ||7|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਦੀਪ ਪਤਨ ਪਤੰਗ ॥ jiau deep patan patang | As the moth falls into the lamp, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਚੋਰੁ ਹਿਰਤ ਨਿਸੰਗ ॥ jiau chor hirat nisang | as the thief steals without hesitation, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੈਗਲਹਿ ਕਾਮੈ ਬੰਧੁ ॥ maigaleh kaamai bandh | as the elephant is trapped by its sexual urges, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਗ੍ਰਸਤ ਬਿਖਈ ਧੰਧੁ ॥ jiau grasat bikhee dhandh | as the sinner is caught in his sins, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਜੂਆਰ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ jiau jooaar bisan na jaae | as the gambler’s addiction does not leave him, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਇ ॥੮॥ har naanak ihu man laae |8| so is this mind of Nanak’s attached to the Lord. ||8|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੁਰੰਕ ਨਾਦੈ ਨੇਹੁ ॥ kurank naadai nehu | As the deer loves the sound of the bell, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਚਾਹਤ ਮੇਹੁ ॥ chaatrik chaahat mehu | and as the song-bird longs for the rain, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਨ ਜੀਵਨਾ ਸਤਸੰਗਿ ॥ jan jeevanaa satasang | the Lord’s humble servant lives in the Society of the Saints, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੋਬਿਦੁ ਭਜਨਾ ਰੰਗਿ ॥ gobid bhajanaa rang | lovingly meditating and vibrating upon the Lord of the Universe. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਸਨਾ ਬਖਾਨੈ ਨਾਮੁ ॥ rasanaa bakhaanai naam | My tongue chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਸਨ ਦਾਨੁ ॥੯॥ naanak darasan daan |9| Please bless Nanak with the gift of the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. ||9|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ਸੁਨਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਦੇਇ ॥ gun gaae sun likh dee | One who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and hears them, and writes them, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋ ਸਰਬ ਫਲ ਹਰਿ ਲੇਇ ॥ so sarab fal har lee | receives all fruits and rewards from the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੁਲ ਸਮੂਹ ਕਰਤ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥ kul samooh karat udhaar | He saves all his ancestors and generations, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥ sansaar utaras paar | and crosses over the world-ocean. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਤਾਹਿ ॥ har charan bohith taeh | The Lord’s Feet are the boat to carry him across. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਹਿ ॥ mil saadhasang jas gaeh | Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, he sings the Praises of the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਪੈਜ ਰਖੈ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥ har paij rakhai muraar | The Lord protects his honor. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਿ ਦੁਆਰਿ ॥੧੦॥੨॥ har naanak saran duaar |10|2| Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord’s door. ||10||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਅਮਰੁ ਅਜੋਨੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਲਾ ॥ amar ajonee jaat na jaalaa | immortal, unborn, beyond social class or involvement. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖਿਆ ॥ agam agochar roop na rekhiaa | He is inaccessible and unfathomable, with no form or feature. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਦੇਖਿਆ ॥ khojat khojat ghatt ghatt dekhiaa | Searching, searching, I have seen Him in each and every heart. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
