ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮੈ ਹਿਰਡ ਪਲਾਸ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੁਹੀਆ ॥੧॥ mil satasangat param pad paaeaa mai hiradd palaas sang har buheea |1| Joining the Society of the Saints, I have obtained the supreme status. I am just a castor-oil tree, made fragrant by their association. ||1|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਪਿ ਜਗੰਨਾਥ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਗੁਸਈਆ ॥ jap jaganaath jagadees guseea | Meditate on the Lord of the Universe, the Master of the world, the Lord of creation. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੇ ਸੇਈ ਜਨ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਉਧਾਰਿ ਸਮਈਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ saran pare seee jan ubare jiau prahilaad udhaar sameea |1| rahaau | Those humble beings who seek the Lord’s Sanctuary are saved, like Prahlaad; they are emancipated and merge with the Lord. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਭਾਰ ਅਠਾਰਹ ਮਹਿ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਊਤਮ ਚੰਦਨ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਸਭ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਹੁਈਆ ॥ bhaar atthaarah meh chandan aootam chandan nikatt sabh chandan hueea | Of all plants, the sandalwood tree is the most sublime. Everything near the sandalwood tree becomes fragrant like sandalwood. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਾਕਤ ਕੂੜੇ ਊਭ ਸੁਕ ਹੂਏ ਮਨਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਦੂਰਿ ਗਈਆ ॥੨॥ saakat koorre aoobh suk hooe man abhimaan vichhurr door geea |2| The stubborn, false faithless cynics are dried up; their egotistical pride separates them far from the Lord. ||2|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਬਨਈਆ ॥ har gat mit karataa aape jaanai sabh bidh har har aap baneea | Only the Creator Lord Himself knows the state and condition of everyone; the Lord Himself makes all the arrangements. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਸੁ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਨ ਮਿਟਈਆ ॥੩॥ jis satigur bhette su kanchan hovai jo dhur likhiaa su mittai na mitteea |3| One who meets the True Guru is transformed into gold. Whatever is pre-ordained, is not erased by erasing. ||3|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਰਤਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਸਾਗਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਖੁਲੑਈਆ ॥ ratan padaarath guramat paavai saagar bhagat bhanddaar khulaeea | The treasure of jewels is found in the ocean of the Guru’s Teachings. The treasure of devotional worship is opened to me. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਇਕ ਸਰਧਾ ਉਪਜੀ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਭਈਆ ॥੪॥ gur charanee ik saradhaa upajee mai har gun kahate tripat na bheea |4| Focused on the Guru’s Feet, faith wells up within me; chanting the Glorious Praises of the Lord, I hunger for more. ||4|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਪਰਮ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਏ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਤੇ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਕਹੀਆ ॥ param bairaag nit nit har dhiaae mai har gun kahate bhaavanee kaheea | I am totally detached, continually, continuously meditating on the Lord; chanting the Glorious Praises of the Lord, I express my love for Him. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਪਰੈ ਪਰਈਆ ॥੫॥ baar baar khin khin pal kaheeai har paar na paavai parai pareea |5| Time and time again, each and every moment and instant, I express it. I cannot find the Lord’s limits; He is the farthest of the far. ||5|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਾਸਤ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਪੁਕਾਰਹਿ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਈਆ ॥ saasat bed puraan pukaareh dharam karahu khatt karam drirreea | The Shaastras, the Vedas and the Puraanas advise righteous actions, and the performance of the six religious rituals. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਵਿਗੂਤੇ ਲੋਭ ਲਹਰਿ ਨਾਵ ਭਾਰਿ ਬੁਡਈਆ ॥੬॥ manamukh paakhandd bharam vigoote lobh lehar naav bhaar buddeea |6| The hypocritical, self-willed manmukhs are ruined by doubt; in the waves of greed, their boat is heavily loaded, and it sinks. ||6|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਈਆ ॥ naam japahu naame gat paavahu simrit saasatr naam drirreea | So chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and through the Naam, find emancipation. The Simritees and Shaastras recommend the Naam. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਤ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਚੈ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਈਆ ॥੭॥ haumai jaae ta niramal hovai guramukh parachai param pad peea |7| Eradicating egotism, one becomes pure. The Gurmukh is inspired, and obtains the supreme status. ||7|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਵਰਨੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਈਆ ॥ eihu jag varan roop sabh teraa jit laaveh se karam kameea | This world, with its colors and forms, is all Yours, O Lord; as You attach us, so do we do our deeds. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੰਤ ਵਜਾਏ ਵਾਜਹਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਰਾਹਿ ਚਲਈਆ ॥੮॥੨॥੫॥ naanak jant vajaae vaajeh jit bhaavai tith raeh chaleea |8|2|5| O Nanak, we are the instruments upon which He plays; as He wills, so is the path we take. ||8||2||5|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਹਉ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖਈਆ ॥ guramukh agam agochar dhiaaeaa hau bal bal satigur sat purakheea | The Gurmukh meditates on the Inaccessible, Unfathomable Lord. I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to the True Guru, the True Primal Being. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਿ ਵਸਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਈਆ ॥੧॥ raam naam merai praan vasaae satigur paras har naam sameea |1| He has brought the Lord’s Name to dwell upon my breath of life; meeting with the True Guru, I am absorbed into the Lord’s Name. ||1|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਨ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਟਿਕਈਆ ॥ jan kee ttek har naam ttikeea | The Name of the Lord is the only Support of His humble servants. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਧਰ ਲਾਗਾ ਜਾਵਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਦਰੁ ਲਹੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ satigur kee dhar laagaa jaavaa gur kirapaa te har dar laheea |1| rahaau | I shall live under the protection of the True Guru. By Guru’s Grace, I shall attain the Court of the Lord. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਇਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਕਰਮ ਕੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਥਿ ਮਥਿ ਤਤੁ ਕਢਈਆ ॥ eihu sareer karam kee dharatee guramukh math math tat kadteea | This body is the field of karma; the Gurmukhs plow and work it, and harvest the essence. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਲਾਲੁ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਭਾਂਡੈ ਭਾਉ ਪਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਅਈਆ ॥੨॥ laal javehar naam pragaasiaa bhaanddai bhaau pavai tith aeea |2| The priceless jewel of the Naam becomes manifest, and it pours into their vessels of love. ||2|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੀਐ ਜੋ ਜਨ ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤ ਨਿਜ ਭਈਆ ॥ daasan daas daas hoe raheeai jo jan raam bhagat nij bheea | Become the slave of the slave of the slave, of that humble being who has become the devotee of the Lord. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਮਨੁ ਬੁਧਿ ਅਰਪਿ ਧਰਉ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੈ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਥਈਆ ॥੩॥ man budh arap dhrau gur aagai gur parasaadee mai akath katheea |3| I dedicate my mind and intellect, and place them in offering before my Guru; by Guru’s Grace, I speak the Unspoken. ||3|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਤ ਤਿਖਈਆ ॥ manamukh maaeaa mohi viaape ihu man trisanaa jalat tikheea | The self-willed manmukhs are engrossed in attachment to Maya; their minds are thirsty, burning with desire. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਈਆ ॥੪॥ guramat naam amrit jal paaeaa agan bujhee gur sabad bujheea |4| Following the Guru’s Teachings, I have obtained the Ambrosial Water of the Naam, and the fire has been put out. The Word of the Guru’s Shabad has put it out. ||4|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਾਚੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਤੂਰ ਵਜਈਆ ॥ eihu man naachai satigur aagai anahad sabad dhun toor vajeea | This mind dances before the True Guru. The unstruck sound current of the Shabad resounds, vibrating the celestial melody. - Guru Ramdas Ji
