ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਹਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ॥ ghar dar paavai mehal naam piaariaa | He obtains his own home and mansion, by loving the Naam, the Name of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਉ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ॥ guramukh paaeaa naam hau gur kau vaariaa | As Gurmukh, I have obtained the Naam; I am a sacrifice to the Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੂ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰਿਆ ॥੧੬॥ too aap savaareh aap sirajanahaariaa |16| You Yourself embellish and adorn us, O Creator Lord. ||16|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਦੀਵਾ ਬਲੈ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਜਾਇ ॥ deevaa balai andheraa jaae | When the lamp is lit, the darkness is dispelled; - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬੇਦ ਪਾਠ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਪਾ ਖਾਇ ॥ bed paatth mat paapaa khaae | reading the Vedas, sinful intellect is destroyed. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਉਗਵੈ ਸੂਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ਚੰਦੁ ॥ augavai soor na jaapai chand | When the sun rises, the moon is not visible. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਹ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਮਿਟੰਤੁ ॥ jeh giaan pragaas agiaan mittant | Wherever spiritual wisdom appears, ignorance is dispelled. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬੇਦ ਪਾਠ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ॥ bed paatth sansaar kee kaar | Reading the Vedas is the world’s occupation; - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪੜਿੑ ਪੜਿੑ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਕਰਹਿ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥ parra parra panddit kareh beechaar | the Pandits read them, study them and contemplate them. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਸਭ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰ ॥ bin boojhe sabh hoe khuaar | Without understanding, all are ruined. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ naanak guramukh utaras paar |1| O Nanak, the Gurmukh is carried across. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸਬਦੈ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੋ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ sabadai saad na aaeo naam na lago piaar | Those who do not savor the Word of the Shabad, do not love the Naam, the Name of the Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਰਸਨਾ ਫਿਕਾ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥ rasanaa fikaa bolanaa nit nit hoe khuaar | They speak insipidly with their tongues, and are continually disgraced. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ naanak peiai kirat kamaavanaa koe na mettanahaar |2| O Nanak, they act according to the karma of their past actions, which no one can erase. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਜਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੋ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਏ ॥ ji prabh saalaahe aapanaa so sobhaa paae | One who praises his God, receives honor. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥ haumai vichahu door kar sach man vasaae | He drives out egotism from within himself, and enshrines the True Name within his mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਰੈ ਸਚਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ sach baanee gun ucharai sachaa sukh paae | Through the True Word of the Guru’s Bani, he chants the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and finds true peace. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੇਲੁ ਭਇਆ ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ mel bheaa chiree vichhuniaa gur purakh milaae | He is united with the Lord, after being separated for so long; the Guru, the Primal Being, unites him with the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਇਵ ਸੁਧੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥੧੭॥ man mailaa iv sudh hai har naam dhiaae |17| In this way, his filthy mind is cleansed and purified, and he meditates on the Name of the Lord. ||17|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕਾਇਆ ਕੂਮਲ ਫੁਲ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਪਸਿ ਮਾਲ ॥ kaaeaa koomal ful gun naanak gupas maal | With the fresh leaves of the body, and the flowers of virtue, Nanak has weaved his garland. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਏਨੀ ਫੁਲੀ ਰਉ ਕਰੇ ਅਵਰ ਕਿ ਚੁਣੀਅਹਿ ਡਾਲ ॥੧॥ enee fulee rau kare avar ki chuneeeh ddaal |1| The Lord is pleased with such garlands, so why pick any other flowers? ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨਾ ਬਸੰਤੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਨੑ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਕੰਤੁ ॥ naanak tinaa basant hai jina ghar vasiaa kant | O Nanak, it is the spring season for those, within whose homes their Husband Lord abides. - Guru Angad Dev Ji
ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਕੰਤ ਦਿਸਾਪੁਰੀ ਸੇ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਜਲੰਤ ॥੨॥ jin ke kant disaapuree se ahinis fireh jalant |2| But those, whose Husband Lord is far away in distant lands, continue burning, day and night. ||2|| - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ॥ aape bakhase deaa kar gur satigur bachanee | The Merciful Lord Himself forgives those who dwell upon the Word of the Guru, the True Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਾ ਮਨੁ ਸਚੈ ਰਚਨੀ ॥ anadin sevee gun ravaa man sachai rachanee | Night and day, I serve the True Lord, and chant His Glorious Praises; my mind merges into Him. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਹੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਲਖਨੀ ॥ prabh meraa beant hai ant kinai na lakhanee | My God is infinite; no one knows His limit. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਗਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਤ ਜਪਨੀ ॥ satigur charanee lagiaa har naam nit japanee | Grasping hold of the feet of the True Guru, meditate continually on the Lord’s Name. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੋ ਇਛੈ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਸੀ ਸਭਿ ਘਰੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਜਚਨੀ ॥੧੮॥ jo ichhai so fal paaeisee sabh gharai vich jachanee |18| Thus you shall obtain the fruits of your desires, and all wishes shall be fulfilled within your home. ||18|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਪਹਿਲ ਬਸੰਤੈ ਆਗਮਨਿ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਮਉਲਿਓ ਸੋਇ ॥ pahil basantai aagaman pahilaa maulio soe | Spring brings forth the first blossoms, but the Lord blossoms earlier still. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਿਤੁ ਮਉਲਿਐ ਸਭ ਮਉਲੀਐ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਮਉਲਿਹੁ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ jit mauliai sabh mauleeai tiseh na maulihu koe |1| By His blossoming, everything blossoms; no one else causes Him to blossom forth. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਪਹਿਲ ਬਸੰਤੈ ਆਗਮਨਿ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ pahil basantai aagaman tis kaa karahu beechaar | He blossoms forth even earlier than the spring; reflect upon Him. - Guru Angad Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਜਿ ਸਭਸੈ ਦੇ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ naanak so saalaaheeai ji sabhasai de aadhaar |2| O Nanak, praise the One who gives Support to all. ||2|| - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਮਿਲਿਐ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਨਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜੇ ਹੋਇ ॥ miliai miliaa naa milai milai miliaa je hoe | By uniting, the united one is not united; he unites, only if he is united. - Guru Angad Dev Ji
ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੈ ਜੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥ antar aatamai jo milai miliaa kaheeai soe |3| But if he unites deep within his soul, then he is said to be united. ||3|| - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥ har har naam salaaheeai sach kaar kamaavai | Praise the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and practice truthful deeds. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੂਜੀ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਗਿਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ doojee kaarai lagiaa fir jonee paavai | Attached to other deeds, one is consigned to wander in reincarnation. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥ naam ratiaa naam paaeeai naame gun gaavai | Attuned to the Name, one obtains the Name, and through the Name, sings the Lord’s Praises. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥ gur kai sabad salaaheeai har naam samaavai | Praising the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, he merges in the Lord’s Name. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਫਲ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧੯॥ satigur sevaa safal hai seviai fal paavai |19| Service to the True Guru is fruitful and rewarding; serving Him, the fruits are obtained. ||19|| - Guru Amardas Ji
