ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ਮੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਖਣ ਕਾ ਚਾਉ ॥ satigur saagar gun naam kaa mai tis dekhan kaa chaau | The True Guru is the Ocean of Virtue of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. I have such a yearning to see Him! - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਊ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੇਖੇ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੬॥ hau tis bin gharree na jeevaoo bin dekhe mar jaau |6| Without Him, I cannot live, even for an instant. If I do not see Him, I die. ||6|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਉ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਵਿਣੁ ਪਾਣੀਐ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਕਿਤੈ ਉਪਾਇ ॥ jiau machhulee vin paaneeai rahai na kitai upaae | As the fish cannot survive at all without water, - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੰਤੁ ਨ ਜੀਵਈ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੭॥ tiau har bin sant na jeevee bin har naamai mar jaae |7| the Saint cannot live without the Lord. Without the Lord’s Name, he dies. ||7|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਤੀ ਪਿਰਹੜੀ ਕਿਉ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਜੀਵਾ ਮਾਉ ॥ mai satigur setee piraharree kiau gur bin jeevaa maau | I am so much in love with my True Guru! How could I even live without the Guru, O my mother? - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਮੈ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਆਧਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਹਾਉ ॥੮॥ mai gurabaanee aadhaar hai gurabaanee laag rahaau |8| I have the Support of the Word of the Guru’s Bani. Attached to Gurbani, I survive. ||8|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤੰਨੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਠਾ ਦੇਵੈ ਮਾਇ ॥ har har naam ratan hai gur tutthaa devai maae | The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is a jewel; by the Pleasure of His Will, the Guru has given it, O my mother. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਮੈ ਧਰ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੯॥ mai dhar sache naam kee har naam rahaa liv laae |9| The True Name is my only Support. I remain lovingly absorbed in the Lord’s Name. ||9|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਦੇਇ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇ ॥ gur giaan padaarath naam hai har naamo dee drirraae | The wisdom of the Guru is the treasure of the Naam. The Guru implants and enshrines the Lord’s Name. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਸੋ ਲਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਆਇ ॥੧੦॥ jis paraapat so lahai gur charanee laagai aae |10| He alone receives it, he alone gets it, who comes and falls at the Guru’s Feet. ||10|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੀ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਆਖੈ ਆਇ ॥ akath kahaanee prem kee ko preetam aakhai aae | If only someone would come and tell me the Unspoken Speech of the Love of my Beloved. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਵਾ ਮਨੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਪਾਇ ॥੧੧॥ tis devaa man aapanaa niv niv laagaa paae |11| I would dedicate my mind to him; I would bow down in humble respect, and fall at his feet. ||11|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਜਣੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਏਕੁ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ॥ sajan meraa ek toon karataa purakh sujaan | You are my only Friend, O my All-knowing, All-powerful Creator Lord. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੀਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਮੈ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਤਾਣੁ ॥੧੨॥ satigur meet milaaeaa mai sadaa sadaa teraa taan |12| You have brought me to meet with my True Guru. Forever and ever, You are my only strength. ||12|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਾ ਆਵੈ ਨਾ ਜਾਇ ॥ satigur meraa sadaa sadaa naa aavai naa jaae | My True Guru, forever and ever, does not come and go. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਓਹੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧੩॥ ohu abinaasee purakh hai sabh meh rahiaa samaae |13| He is the Imperishable Creator Lord; He is permeating and pervading among all. ||13|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਿਆ ਸਾਬਤੁ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥ raam naam dhan sanchiaa saabat poonjee raas | I have gathered in the wealth of the Lord’s Name. My facilities and faculties are intact, safe and sound. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਗਹ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥੧੪॥੧॥੨॥੧੧॥ naanak daragah maniaa gur poore saabaas |14|1|2|11| O Nanak, I am approved and respected in the Court of the Lord; the Perfect Guru has blessed me! ||14||1||2||11|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਉਰਝਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਾ ॥ aurajh rahio bikhiaa kai sangaa | He is entangled in sinful associations; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨਹਿ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਅਨਿਕ ਤਰੰਗਾ ॥੧॥ maneh biaapat anik tarangaa |1| his mind is troubled by so very many waves. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ॥ mere man agam agochar | O my mind, how can the Unapproachable and Incomprehensible Lord be found? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਤ ਪਾਈਐ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ kat paaeeai pooran paramesar |1| rahaau | He is the Perfect Transcendent Lord. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੋਹ ਮਗਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਬਿਆਪੇ ॥ moh magan meh rahiaa biaape | He remains entangled in the intoxication of worldly love. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਕਬਹੂ ਨਹੀ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੇ ॥੨॥ at trisanaa kabahoo nahee dhraape |2| His excessive thirst is never quenched. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਸਇ ਕਰੋਧੁ ਸਰੀਰਿ ਚੰਡਾਰਾ ॥ base karodh sareer chanddaaraa | Anger is the outcaste which hides within his body; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਗਿਆਨਿ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਮਹਾ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ॥੩॥ agiaan na soojhai mahaa gubaaraa |3| he is in the utter darkness of ignorance, and he does not understand. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਜਰੇ ਕਿਵਾਰਾ ॥ bhramat biaapat jare kivaaraa | Afflicted by doubt, the shutters are shut tight; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਣੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਰਬਾਰਾ ॥੪॥ jaan na paaeeai prabh darabaaraa |4| he cannot go to God’s Court. ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਸਾ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਬੰਧਿ ਪਰਾਨਾ ॥ aasaa andesaa bandh paraanaa | The mortal is bound and gagged by hope and fear; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਫਿਰਤ ਬਿਗਾਨਾ ॥੫॥ mehal na paavai firat bigaanaa |5| he cannot find the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence, and so he wanders around like a stranger. ||5|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਗਲ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨਾ ॥ sagal biaadh kai vas kar deenaa | He falls under the power of all negative influences; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਫਿਰਤ ਪਿਆਸ ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੀਨਾ ॥੬॥ firat piaas jiau jal bin meenaa |6| he wanders around thirsty like a fish out of water. ||6|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਛੂ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਉਕਤਿ ਨ ਮੋਰੀ ॥ kachhoo siaanap ukat na moree | I have no clever tricks or techniques; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਏਕ ਆਸ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੋਰੀ ॥੭॥ ek aas tthaakur prabh toree |7| You are my only hope, O my Lord God Master. ||7|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਉ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੰਤਨ ਪਾਸੇ ॥ krau benatee santan paase | Nanak offers this prayer to the Saints - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਰਦਾਸੇ ॥੮॥ mel laihu naanak aradaase |8|
- please let me merge and blend with You. ||8|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ bheo kripaal saadhasang paaeaa | God has shown Mercy, and I have found the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੧॥ naanak tripate pooraa paaeaa |1| rahaau doojaa |1| Nanak is satisfied, finding the Perfect Lord. ||1||Second Pause||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
