ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਜਿਆ ॥੫॥ aape thaap uthaap sabad nivaajiaa |5| You Yourself establish and disestablish; through the Word of Your Shabad, You elevate and exalt. ||5|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਦੇਹੀ ਭਸਮ ਰੁਲਾਇ ਨ ਜਾਪੀ ਕਹ ਗਇਆ ॥ dehee bhasam rulaae na jaapee keh geaa | When the body rolls in the dust, it is not known where the soul has gone. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਆਪੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ਸੋ ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਭਇਆ ॥੬॥ aape rahiaa samaae so visamaad bheaa |6| He Himself is permeating and pervading; this is wonderful and amazing! ||6|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਤੂੰ ਨਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੂਰਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸਭ ਤੂ ਹੈ ॥ toon naahee prabh door jaaneh sabh too hai | You are not far away, God; You know everything. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਖਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਭੀ ਤੂ ਹੈ ॥੭॥ guramukh vekh hadoor antar bhee too hai |7| The Gurmukh sees You ever-present; You are deep within the nucleus of our inner self. ||7|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਮੈ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ mai deejai naam nivaas antar saant hoe | Please, bless me with a home in Your Name; may my inner self be at peace. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਇ ॥੮॥੩॥੫॥ gun gaavai naanak daas satigur mat dee |8|3|5| May slave Nanak sing Your Glorious Praises; O True Guru, please share the Teachings with me. ||8||3||5|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ik oankaar satigur prasaad | One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru: - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਮੈ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ॥ naamai hee te sabh kichh hoaa bin satigur naam na jaapai | Everything comes from the Naam, the Name of the Lord; without the True Guru, the Naam is not experienced. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਚਾਖੇ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ॥ gur kaa sabad mahaa ras meetthaa bin chaakhe saad na jaapai | The Word of the Guru’s Shabad is the sweetest and most sublime essence, but without tasting it, its flavor cannot be experienced. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਚੀਨਸਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਆਪੈ ॥ kauddee badalai janam gavaaeaa cheenas naahee aapai | He wastes this human life in exchange for a mere shell; he does not understand his own self. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥੧॥ guramukh hovai taa eko jaanai haumai dukh na santaapai |1| But, if he becomes Gurmukh, then he comes to know the One Lord, and the disease of egotism does not afflict him. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਅਪਣੇ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥ balihaaree gur apane vittahu jin saache siau liv laaee | I am a sacrifice to my Guru, who has lovingly attached me to the True Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨਿੑ ਆਤਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ sabad cheena aatam paragaasiaa sahaje rahiaa samaaee |1| rahaau | Concentrating on the Word of the Shabad, the soul is illumined and enlightened. I remain absorbed in celestial ecstasy. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥ guramukh gaavai guramukh boojhai guramukh sabad beechaare | The Gurmukh sings the Praises of the Lord; the Gurmukh understands. The Gurmukh contemplates the Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਉਪਜੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥ jeeo pindd sabh gur te upajai guramukh kaaraj savaare | Body and soul are totally rejuvenated through the Guru; the Gurmukh’s affairs are resolved in his favor. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਟੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੇ ॥ manamukh andhaa andh kamaavai bikh khatte sansaare | The blind self-willed manmukh acts blindly, and earns only poison in this world. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਅਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੨॥ maaeaa mohi sadaa dukh paae bin gur at piaare |2| Enticed by Maya, he suffers in constant pain, without the most Beloved Guru. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸੋਈ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਚਾਲੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਏ ॥ soee sevak je satigur seve chaalai satigur bhaae | He alone is a selfless servant, who serves the True Guru, and walks in harmony with the True Guru’s Will. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਹੈ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥ saachaa sabad sifat hai saachee saachaa man vasaae | The True Shabad, the Word of God, is the True Praise of God; enshrine the True Lord within your mind. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਖੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਏ ॥ sachee baanee guramukh aakhai haumai vichahu jaae | The Gurmukh speaks the True Word of Gurbani, and egotism departs from within. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪੇ ਦਾਤਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥੩॥ aape daataa karam hai saachaa saachaa sabad sunaae |3| He Himself is the Giver, and True are His actions. He proclaims the True Word of the Shabad. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਘਾਲੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖਟੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਏ ॥ guramukh ghaale guramukh khatte guramukh naam japaae | The Gurmukh works, and the Gurmukh earns; the Gurmukh inspires others to chant the Naam. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਦਾ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥ sadaa alipat saachai rang raataa gur kai sehaj subhaae | He is forever unattached, imbued with the Love of the True Lord, intuitively in harmony with the Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਕੂੜੋ ਬੋਲੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਬੀਜੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਏ ॥ manamukh sad hee koorro bolai bikh beejai bikh khaae | The self-willed manmukh always tells lies; he plants the seeds of poison, and eats only poison. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਦਾਧਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਵਣੁ ਛਡਾਏ ॥੪॥ jamakaal baadhaa trisanaa daadhaa bin gur kavan chhaddaae |4| He is bound and gagged by the Messenger of Death, and burnt in the fire of desire; who can save him, except the Guru? ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਚਾ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਤ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਵਣੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥ sachaa teerath jit sat sar naavan guramukh aap bujhaae | True is that place of pilgrimage, where one bathes in the pool of Truth, and achieves self-realization as Gurmukh. The Gurmukh understands his own self. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਤਿਤੁ ਨਾਤੈ ਮਲੁ ਜਾਏ ॥ atthasatth teerath gur sabad dikhaae tith naatai mal jaae | The Lord has shown that the Word of the Guru’s Shabad is the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage; bathing in it, filth is washed away. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚਾ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾ ਮਲੁ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਲਾਏ ॥ sachaa sabad sachaa hai niramal naa mal lagai na laae | True and Immaculate is the True Word of His Shabad; no filth touches or clings to Him. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਚੀ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਚੀ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਏ ॥੫॥ sachee sifat sachee saalaah poore gur te paae |5| True Praise, True Devotional Praise, is obtained from the Perfect Guru. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੇਰਾ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥ tan man sabh kichh har tis keraa duramat kehan na jaae | Body, mind, everything belongs to the Lord; but the evil-minded ones cannot even say this. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਏ ॥ hukam hovai taa niramal hovai haumai vichahu jaae | If such is the Hukam of the Lord’s Command, then one becomes pure and spotless, and the ego is taken away from within. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਖੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਚਾਖੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥ gur kee saakhee sahaje chaakhee trisanaa agan bujhaae | I have intuitively tasted the Guru’s Teachings, and the fire of my desire has been quenched. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੬॥ gur kai sabad raataa sahaje maataa sahaje rahiaa samaae |6| Attuned to the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, one is naturally intoxicated, merging imperceptibly into the Lord. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
