ਸਭੇ ਇਛਾ ਪੂਰੀਆ ਜਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ sabhe ichhaa pooreea jaa paaeaa agam apaaraa | All desires are fulfilled, when the Inaccessible and Infinite Lord is obtained. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤੇਰਿਆ ਚਰਣਾ ਕਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੪੭॥ gur naanak miliaa paarabraham teriaa charanaa kau balihaaraa |4|1|47| Guru Nanak has met the Supreme Lord God; I am a sacrifice to Your Feet. ||4||1||47|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਤੂਹੈ ਮਨਾਇਹਿ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹੋਹਿ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥ teraa bhaanaa toohai manaaeihi jis no hohi deaalaa | He alone obeys Your Will, O Lord, unto whom You are Merciful. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਈ ਭਗਤਿ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤੂੰ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥੧॥ saaee bhagat jo tudh bhaavai toon sarab jeea pratipaalaa |1| That alone is devotional worship, which is pleasing to Your Will. You are the Cherisher of all beings. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਸੰਤਾ ਟੇਕ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੀ ॥ mere raam raae santaa ttek tumaaree | O my Sovereign Lord, You are the Support of the Saints. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਤੂਹੈ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ jo tudh bhaavai so paravaan man tan toohai adhaaree |1| rahaau | Whatever pleases You, they accept. You are the sustenance of their minds and bodies. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੂੰ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਪੂਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ toon deaal kripaal kripaa nidh manasaa pooranahaaraa | You are kind and compassionate, the treasure of mercy, the fulfiller of our hopes. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਪਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਤੂੰ ਭਗਤਨ ਕਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥੨॥ bhagat tere sabh praanapat preetam toon bhagatan kaa piaaraa |2| You are the Beloved Lord of life of all Your devotees; You are the Beloved of Your devotees. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੂ ਅਥਾਹੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਅਤਿ ਊਚਾ ਕੋਈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਾਤੇ ॥ too athaahu apaar at aoochaa koee avar na teree bhaate | You are unfathomable, infinite, lofty and exalted. There is no one else like You. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਹ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵਿਸਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ॥੩॥ eih aradaas hamaaree suaamee visar naahee sukhadaate |3| This is my prayer, O my Lord and Master; may I never forget You, O Peace-giving Lord. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਜੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਾ ॥ din rain saas saas gun gaavaa je suaamee tudh bhaavaa | Day and night, with each and every breath, I sing Your Glorious Praises, if it is pleasing to Your Will. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤੁਠੈ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੪੮॥ naam teraa sukh naanak maagai saahib tutthai paavaa |4|1|48| Nanak begs for the peace of Your Name, O Lord and Master; as it is pleasing to Your Will, I shall attain it. ||4||1||48|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਵਿਸਰਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਤੂ ਕਬਹੂ ਸੋ ਥਾਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੇਹਾ ॥ visareh naahee jit too kabahoo so thaan teraa kehaa | Where is that place, where You are never forgotten, Lord? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਜਿਤੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਈ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੋਵੈ ਦੇਹਾ ॥੧॥ aatth pehar jit tudh dhiaaee niramal hovai dehaa |1| Twenty-four hours a day, they meditate on You, and their bodies become spotless and pure. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਹਉ ਸੋ ਥਾਨੁ ਭਾਲਣ ਆਇਆ ॥ mere raam hau so thaan bhaalan aaeaa | O my Lord, I have come searching for that place. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਭਇਆ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਤਿਨੑ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ khojat khojat bheaa saadhasang tina saranaaee paaeaa |1| rahaau | After seeking and searching, I found Sanctuary in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬੇਦ ਪੜੇ ਪੜਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਹਾਰੇ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ bed parre parr brahame haare ik til nahee keemat paaee | Reading and reciting the Vedas, Brahma grew weary, but he did not find even a tiny bit of God’s worth. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧਿਕ ਸਿਧ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਬਿਲਲਾਤੇ ਤੇ ਭੀ ਮੋਹੇ ਮਾਈ ॥੨॥ saadhik sidh fireh bilalaate te bhee mohe maaee |2| The seekers and Siddhas wander around bewailing; they too are enticed by Maya. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਸ ਅਉਤਾਰ ਰਾਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਵਰਤੇ ਮਹਾਦੇਵ ਅਉਧੂਤਾ ॥ das aautaar raaje hoe varate mahaadev aaudhootaa | There were ten regal incarnations of Vishnu; and then there was Shiva, the renunciate. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਨੑ ਭੀ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਤੇਰਾ ਲਾਇ ਥਕੇ ਬਿਭੂਤਾ ॥੩॥ tina bhee ant na paaeo teraa laae thake bibhootaa |3| He did not find Your limits either, although he grew weary of smearing his body with ashes. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਹਜ ਸੂਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਾਮ ਰਸ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤੀ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਗਾਇਆ ॥ sehaj sookh aanand naam ras har santee mangal gaaeaa | Peace, poise and bliss are found in the subtle essence of the Naam. The Lord’s Saints sing the songs of joy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੨॥੪੯॥ safal darasan bhettio gur naanak taa man tan har har dhiaaeaa |4|2|49| I have obtained the Fruitful Vision of Guru Nanak’s Darshan, and with my mind and body I meditate on the Lord, Har, Har. ||4||2||49|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਪਾਖੰਡ ਜੋ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਜਮੁ ਜਾਗਾਤੀ ਲੂਟੈ ॥ karam dharam paakhandd jo deeseh tin jam jaagaatee loottai | The religious rites, rituals and hypocrisies which are seen, are plundered by the Messenger of Death, the ultimate tax collector. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਿਰਬਾਣ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਕਾ ਨਿਮਖ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਜਿਤੁ ਛੂਟੈ ॥੧॥ nirabaan keeratan gaavahu karate kaa nimakh simarat jit chhoottai |1| In the state of Nirvaanaa, sing the Kirtan of the Creator’s Praises; contemplating Him in meditation, even for an instant, one is saved. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤਹੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਰੀਐ ॥ santahu saagar paar utareeai | O Saints, cross over the world-ocean. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਬਚਨੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਸੋ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਤਰੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ je ko bachan kamaavai santan kaa so gur parasaadee tareeai |1| rahaau | One who practices the Teachings of the Saints, by Guru’s Grace, is carried across. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੋਟਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਮਜਨ ਇਸਨਾਨਾ ਇਸੁ ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰੀਜੈ ॥ kott teerath majan isanaanaa is kal meh mail bhareejai | Millions of cleansing baths at sacred shrines of pilgrimage only fill the mortal with filth in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੨॥ saadhasang jo har gun gaavai so niramal kar leejai |2| One who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, becomes spotlessly pure. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਭਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਇਨੑ ਪੜਿਆ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ bed kateb simrit sabh saasat ina parriaa mukat na hoee | One may read all the books of the Vedas, the Bible, the Simritees and the Shaastras, but they will not bring liberation. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਏਕੁ ਅਖਰੁ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਪੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸੋਈ ॥੩॥ ek akhar jo guramukh jaapai tis kee niramal soee |3| One who, as Gurmukh, chants the One Word, acquires a spotlessly pure reputation. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਸੂਦ ਵੈਸ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਚਹੁ ਵਰਨਾ ਕਉ ਸਾਝਾ ॥ khatree braahaman sood vais upades chahu varanaa kau saajhaa | The four castes - the Kh’shaatriyas, Brahmins, Soodras and Vaishyas - are equal in respect to the teachings. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
